An All-New Silent Movie.

Features: DVD

An instant cult classic! Written in 1926, The Call of Cthulhu is one of the most famous tales from H.P. Lovecraft, the father of gothic horror (Re-Animator, From Beyond). Now the story is brought richly to live in the style of the classic silent horror films of Murnau and Dreyer. Featuring a haunting original symphonic score and filmed in "MythoScope!"

"...brilliant...the visual storytelling allows easy understanding for the audience."  Andrew Wickliffe, The Stop Button
"H.P. Lovecraft fans will not want to miss this admirable adaptation...a tremendous job."  David Austin, Cinema Strikes Back
"...stroke of genius...hair-raising mystery full of bizarre dreams, murderous eskimos, and blood-thirsty cultists."  Jurgen Fauth, About.com

When a dying professor gives his great nephew several stories about the mythical monster Cthulhu and the cult surrounding it, the young man begins to hear the Cthulhu's call and becomes obsessed with investigating the legend.

Professional Reviews
Dread Central 8 of 10
The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society has just released their interpretation of Call of Cthulhu. "Interpretation" denotes their differing take on a meaty and difficult subject matter, for The H.P.L.H.S. has decided to do the entire story in the style of a silent film. Not settling for a lazy approach to this style, they made a film that looks, acts, and feels like it has been recently dusted off and pulled from the catacombs. The Call of Cthulhu is a return to a forgotten era of movie magic that allows the viewer to travel not only to lost worlds, but to a lost time as well...Ambitious in its own right, The Call of Cthulhu is indeed a step forward for the world of H. P. Lovecraft cinema. It is one of a handful of new films made by fans of the late great authors work, who not only see the prospect in the mines, but are able to understand the rock they are hidden within. The Call of Cthulhu is a very celebrated work, held holy by a lot of people who live, breathe, eat, and sleep Lovecraft. - D. W. Bostaph, Jr.

FerdyOnFilms.com 9 of 10
This film crossbreeds modern acting and some modern film techniques with conventions and techniques of the silent era. It is jarring to anyone familiar with silent films, but once we are enveloped in the story, reservations vanish. The film creates a real sense of mood and dread through simple, sleight-of-hand means. A piece of fabric becomes a churning sea. A stop-action doll becomes the monstrous Cthulhu. The ingenuity of this dedicated team of Lovecraft enthusiasts makes us fear for our immortal souls despite ourselves. This film shows that you don't have to throw millions of dollars worth of special effects at an audience to get them to buy into your tale of terror and willingly push themselves over the edge. - Marilyn Ferdinand
