Notes & Personnel Info | | This is a compilation of some songs recorded by these three giants of Brazilian popular music at a very early stage in their careers. As a matter of fact, when these recordings were made, during the mid-'60s, none of the four had even released an official album. As a result, this compilation should be of interest for listeners who are already well familiar with the works of at least one of these great artists. Several songs included here are taken from Maria Beth?nia's early repertoire, but, strangely enough, the most interesting and beautiful recording she made during this period, the great ballad "Sol Negro," written by Caetano Veloso, is not included. There is, however, an early version of Gilberto Gil's "Procissao," a song that would reappear on his self-titled, tropicalist album of 1969. "Cavaleiro" and "Samba em Paz," written and performed by Caetano Veloso, are of historical interest because they were the A- and B-sides of his very first single, released in 1965. ~ Philip Jandovsky |
