5 of 5 Does what it should. Sunday, May 18, 2008
A Customer from Croton On Hudson, NY
I live in the New York metropolitan area, but was still able to find 2 "open" FM frequencies available to use. I use the device mostly to play audio books. I have to turn the treble setting down a bit to reduce the background hiss (or white noise). This is something I had to do back in the days before cd's when I played my music on cassettes, so I don't think the unit is at fault. I played a few songs to test out the sound and they sounded excellent. After about a minute of turning off my MP3 player, the unit powers off, so be prepared for a sudden large amount of static from your FM radio, unless you get used to shutting or lowering you radio right after you shut the MP3 player. This is not really a problem as I got used to shutting the radio after a week of being startled. So far, I have only used the device in my car but I'm looking forward to playing my MP3's in the house. All you have to do is get 2 AAA batteries to power the unit. I am very satisfied with the device. It has made my commute much less boring, plus I am finally finishing several of the audio books that I have.

4 of 5 Great value Friday, February 01, 2008
A Customer from mt pleasant pa
Had to send the first one back, it would shut off after 1 minute. Second one works great, some channels the radio overpowers but not often. return was easy. great deal with the rebate

4 of 5 SECOND TIME'S A CHARM Wednesday, January 16, 2008
Phil from Fairfax County, Virginia
The first shipment that I received from buy.com turned out to be a defective product... the transmitter shut off automatically even in the presence of a strong audio signal from my Zune. To buy.com's credit they accepted an RMA and shipped a replacement rather quickly. The replacement works like a charm. The transmitter has a strong signal even on frequencies occupied by local stations. And the auto shutoff works only when it's supposed to do so.... when a longer period of silence exists indicating the device is no longer needed. I would give this a five if it included a way to charge the Zune at the same time.

5 of 5 Good product Wednesday, January 02, 2008
minhwinn from Orange County, California
This is my first mp3 adapter experience. I purchased this item to use with my Sansa mp3 player. Overall, the product is very easy to use and the sound is pretty good. I did not expect an awesome sound coming from this product, but it was much better than I thought. Not quite crisp and clear sound, but it does the job. My only complaint is not the product, but the price for these type of adapters. The product is so simple to make, but yet the price is quite high.

5 of 5 Great Reception! Thursday, December 27, 2007
Ron from Atlanta
This is an awesome way to hear your tunes through your car radio. Really strong signal and lots of FM channels to choose from. The only bummer is that it does not charge the Ipod...

5 of 5 Great Value Thursday, December 27, 2007
A Customer from Denver, CO
I purchased this with the rebate offer and after reading the many favorable reviews. Getting beyond a few quirks, a bit large for the dash, the car charger is a bit difficult to plug in and pull out, and no auto-off feature-the performance is very good and a heck-of-a-value for the price.

You need to find a spot for it in your car so your antenna can pick up the signal without distraction. So far it's been great. Love it!

5 of 5 Excellent Wednesday, December 19, 2007
mach99 from NY
Powerful FM transmitter, able to swamp out local radio channels, as other reviewers have noted. Very good audio quality. Retractable audio patch cord does not reel in very easily, and is a pain. Overall, I am very satisfied with the purchase.

4 of 5 Best price and fast shipping as usual Sunday, December 09, 2007
Ron from Peoria, AZ
Best price anywhere but still a bit pricy. Works great though and gives you more than enough options of stations to use. Also like the fact that it runs on batteries so I can use in the house, as well as the auto shut-off feature.

5 of 5 Excellent FM transmitter, don't forget adding an a Tuesday, August 14, 2007
A Customer from NJ
It is a very good FM transmitter without antenna. With an antenna, I can listen to my FM station even from my home's mail box, over 100 ft. Where is the antenna ? Plug a 3' USB cord to the transmitter. I opened the transmitter and found one connection in the USB port for antenna. I have experimented and found a much clear signal with pluging the USB cord. Even I prefer to use 2xAAA battery (no hiss background noise). The transmitter was bought with a rebate that made the deal be excellent (more than 50% off). I have a Belkin TuneCast II FM Transmitter, but comparing to Port Authority2, Port Authority2 has a very strong signal and long battery life.

4 of 5 Good performance Tuesday, June 12, 2007
A Customer from Highland Park, NJ
It works great and the 16 preset channels are enough. The only problem with me is that I have to turn the volume of both my MP3 player and car radio to the max to hear my songs on the highway. And if the size were a little smaller it would be great.

1 of 5 This component fried my receiver Friday, June 01, 2007
A Customer from Chapel Hill NC
I purchased this item mainly so that I could hear my mp3s thru my home stereo. (I didn't know that there was any other way to do it.) At first it seemed fine, but my receiver started going on "overload" even though the music wasn't very loud (I've played CDs on my home system at much higher volumes). The receiver would always come back on, so I thought, gee, this is weird. Then it went on overload one last time and wouldn't come back up. I took it in for repair and at $140 to repair it, it's not worth the money. I'll have to save up and buy a new one. I tried it in the car, also, and am disappointed with the fact that the music doesn't seem to get loud enough. If the windows are closed, it's not too bad, so I'll keep it for the purpose of using it on occasional long car trips, but I wish I had not purchased it since I am now out a receiver. BTW, my receiver was less than 2 years old.

4 of 5 Good product; works well Wednesday, May 30, 2007
A Customer from Fort Mill, SC
This is the only device of this type I found online that had good reviews. I got it and tried it out, and I agree with all those other good reviews. I had a good, clear signal in my car, and the price is good. At first I was disappointed that the frequency selection is limited to 16 stations, but I found that even in the Charlotte, NC metropolitan area I found several stations that worked well. A volume control on the transmitter might be nice, but it's not really necessary.

4 of 5 Almost perfect Tuesday, May 29, 2007
A Customer from Louisville, KY
The unit has lots of pre-sets. The transmitter is very powerful and can overcome stations that are on the same channel. The unit would be perfect if it had an extra USB port to charge your MP3. I don't know how that was missed.

5 of 5 fantastic! Tuesday, May 29, 2007
A Customer from N Babylon, NY
I could not resist getting this once I read the reviews. Product worked without any issues with my mp3/CD player. Gave it as a gift to my neice and when they hooked up their iPod, it sounded like I ran into the dreaded "interference" issue. Turned out that the iPod volume was too high making the speakers noisy. Great product at a great price.

4 of 5 some problems Monday, April 02, 2007
AE from Piedmont, CA
I live in the SF Bay Area, so there are lots of radio waves floating around. Right in front of my house the reception is fine. However, just a few miles away, in Berkeley, the reception is scratchy. Sure, a different station address can be used for the transmission, but setting it is a bit of a problem while driving in traffic. So, some of the shine of this otherwise excellent product has been worn off.

4 of 5 Flexible, power saving, low volume Saturday, March 31, 2007
Saleh from Willimantic, CT
I'm happy with this FM transmitter. Especially that it turns off automatically after a couple of minutes to save power and because of the flexible car if it feels that it is transmitting nothing. The car charger has a flexible joint that allows you to fit it perfectly regardless of where your lighter is. The reception is good but the volume is very low compared to other radio channels unless you put the mp3 player on max vol, consuming more mp3 player battery. The only design drawback is that the line-in socket is located at the inner part of the FM transmitter, which means that you have to unplug the wire if you want to remove the device from the car adapter. A pain in the neck when you need to do that. Good news is that I don't need to do that so often.

5 of 5 Great MP3 to FM adapter Thursday, March 29, 2007
Shafiq from Flushing, New York
I was looking for good adapter for long time and was reading reviews of most of them available in the market. This is the only item got very good review. I am very pleased with this item. I live in NYC. Where getting free channels are rare but this adapter is working at the first channel (88.1) I tried flawlessly with no distortion, I did not even tried the rest of the channel. Buy it, you won't regret. It also works with my Garmin NUVI 350 gps system.

5 of 5 Works great! Thursday, March 29, 2007
A Customer from Reno, Nevada
This product is working great for me! I use it with my tablet pc while I drive around in my truck. I mostly use it for podcast listening, but everything sounds great through it. I did notice that I can't be charging my pc while I use it, it picks up a bunch of noise if I do, but the same was true in my old truck which had an input jack on the stereo. It's almost like having an input jack again, which I was really missing.

4 of 5 Best so far Thursday, March 29, 2007
A Customer from RTP, NC
this unit works far better than 2 others I have bought and several that my friends have. the only drawback is the size when it is used with the car charger, it really sticks out a lot. There are a lot of radio stations in the area but it was easy to find an open channel for my 50 mile trip to work.

5 of 5 Works flawlessly Wednesday, March 28, 2007
Mike Foster from Salt Lake City, UT
I originally bought a cheap FM transmitter on ebay. Glad it was cheap because it sure didn't work very well. This one is great. Tried it in 3 different cars. Great range. Flawless sound. Easy to use. Shuts itself off when it doesn't have a signal. I like that it's all self-contained and plugs into the lighter socket. The retractible cord is a nice feature, although if you're not careful, it'll snap right out of your ipod. I would highly recommend this unit. In fact, I ended up buying a 2nd one for my son's car.

5 of 5 Better than Kensington Monday, March 19, 2007
A Customer from Iowa City IA
I first bought a Kensington FM Transmitter for a long-distance trip with my iPod. It was awful. Anytime even the faintest signal appeared on the channel, it meant tons of static. This Port Authority is a much stronger transmitter. I set it to 88.3 and was able to drive into Chicago without having to change it. Even when a radio station is coming in strong, this transmitter is able to overpower it and continue to work well. Definitely recommend it. The only drawback is that this charger does not charge the iPod like the Kensington did. But that trade-off is an easy decision, since the 2nd generation iPod battery life is over 8 hours of playback. For long trips you could get a dedicated car charger for the iPod, and just charge it when it gets low. Or use a cigarette lighter power splitter.

5 of 5 Great for listening to MP3 lectures Thursday, March 15, 2007
A Customer from Iowa
Great sound clarity and overall great value. You will have to turn up the radio, and if you have a radio with automatic tone adjustment for news, pop, etc you may want to set it to "news" if you are listening to lectures and perhaps audio books.

5 of 5 Not perfect, but best one out there Monday, February 26, 2007
A Customer from Las Vegas, NV
I've tried a couple of these adapters in the past and they were all horrible. After reading many reviews of newer ones in the past year, I was still not convinced they had become any better, but this one came up on a great after-rebate sale here on Buy.com along with very solid reviews. It is indeed a great product. The input volume has to be kept relatively low on my play so I have to turn up the volume about 40% higher on my radio to get the same volume level, but it's not terrible. Pushing the input volume any higher and you get crackling on the low and high frequencies.

5 of 5 Great Device Monday, January 08, 2007
Wayne from Hamilton MT
I have beem in the market for an item like the Cables To Go Port Authority 2 MP3 to FM Adapter. This one really works. It is so versatile...for example, you can even use it as a wireless headphone device for a TV using a personal FM radio as the receiver. The lighter plug cradle is very handy in a vehicle. I am amazed at the clarity of sound. This was a very sound investment.

5 of 5 FCC may contact me soon Friday, December 15, 2006
A Customer from New York, NY
This device is amazing. You basically plug it into any headphone jack and you have your own personal radio station. I can listen to my computer from any room in my apartment. I connected it to the headphone jack on my computer speakers. Make sure to not turn the volume too high or else the signal will be distorted.

5 of 5 Simple yet robust Tuesday, December 05, 2006
A Customer from NY, NY
The setup between the MP3 player and car stereo was very simple. The many options for the broadcast frequency means you will always find a clear channel to listen. I was driving from one state to another and ran into interference with a radio station. Very quickly changed to another frequency while driving.

4 of 5 cheap-adaquate-functional Thursday, October 26, 2006
A Customer from dayton, NJ
easy to use, it has pre-defined set of FM stations to match. my favoriate stations was not one of them, but it's o.k. i hear some noise in some places - i think it's where FM reception is no good (though radio sounds o.k), but unless you drive thru those place for long, it's acceptable since it gets better soon in diff places. Overall, this is a good, affordable solution.

5 of 5 Listened to 'net stream of College Football while Tuesday, October 24, 2006
Multitaskin'LifeAway from Bentonville, Arkansas
Ok, so it's College Football season and my favorite Football team is in out West. No TV or local Radio stations picked up the game. I also needed to mow the lawn on Saturday. It's getting colder, but the grass is still green down here in the south. The audio for the football game was broadcast on the internet, so I hooked up my computer, plugged in the FM Stereo Adapter as the speakers, and set the Adapter by the window, knowing I was mowing the back yard. Let me just state now that I have used another FM Modulator, and was thoroughly displeased. So I didn't think this was going to work at all, but thought it only took a few minutes to set up, so why not try it. I used the FM radio that's built into my MP3 player to pick up the FM signal (I know, kinda backwards from how the product's supposed to work). I turned on the MP3 player, and listened to the game as I was leaving the computer room, and heading outside to round up the lawnmower. I didn't think I'd get much signal outside of the room, but I was amazed. It worked well even in the garage with the door shut. The Garage is on the opposite side of my house from the computer room. I was simply excited at how well this product worked. I never got any fuzz while in the back yard, and was pleased with how well I could hear the radio over the lawnmower. Perfectly clear signal. AND I went out front, and could still get a great signal if the MP3 player was facing the house. AMAZING! To think that other similar products cost 2-3X more, and don't work as well as this one does is a shame. Cables to Go has an awesome product here. Oh, and Yes my team Won. Go Cougars!

5 of 5 It really works Friday, October 13, 2006
Tom Bird from Austin TX
I was skeptical of getting an MP3 to FM converter, because a friend of mine had one (not Cables to Go), and the quality of the sound was terrible. But my car's CD player does not play MP3 discs, so this was about the only solution. I first tried it on my home stereo, using the 2 AAA batteries in the converter, then on my car stereo, using the 12V plug. The sound quality in both cases was superb, as long as the volume on the converter was not set at max. The only drawback to the unit is the 12V plug is not on a cord, so you must not have a recessed lighter outlet. Mine barely fit. Overall, great value and performance for the price.

5 of 5 A really nice addition Sunday, September 17, 2006
A Customer from Paioli, PA
This adaptor is a wonderful, Great working device. It seems to work better on the higher end frequencies than the lower ones, that might be just in my area. I would recomend it th anyone who loves to bring their music with them. I use it with my Palm Life drive and it works with ease. Buy it you'll like it.

4 of 5 Don't expect too much Friday, September 15, 2006
HB from NY
It is a nice product if don't expect too much from it. I used it for a week and found that it is quite easy to setup and the sound is good from my radio. However, during the silent gap between tracks, I hear some noise which is really displeasing. So if you will play some instrumental music or some soft ones, I think this noise will hurt. Of course, if you turn the sound on loud, the noise will be ignored.

5 of 5 Convenience personified Thursday, September 14, 2006
Steve from Pleasant Valley, NY
Value, even before the rebate, was good. Performance is good, but it took a little playing around to balance the gain of the car radio and mp3 player to avoid distortion. Cleverness of design is excellent. The use of a standard USB connector as a power source opens up the possibility of home use without an external adaptor. The hinged automotive power connector makes installation and visibility a breeze in most cars. The selection of well spaced frequencies across the FM band probably insures interference free operation in most areas. Visibility of the led illuminated frequency display could be better, but posed no problem. Overall, very satisfied with form, fit, and function. We'll have to wait to see how reliable it is.

5 of 5 Finally one that works Wednesday, September 13, 2006
Mike F from Salt Lake City, Utah
My son has tried several similar fm transmitters for his ipod, including a very cheap one found on ebay. Finally we bit the bullet and bought this one. The powerful transmitter was music to our ears. An excellent product that plugs right into the lighter socket, has multiple frequencies, and is simple to operate. Music comes in loud and clear. I'm very pleased.

4 of 5 Convenient way to listen to MP3 in an older car Wednesday, September 13, 2006
A Customer from Laguna Beach, Ca
Very easy to use and good value for the price paid, after rebate. Only complaint is that there is no "OFF" button when plugged in to cig lighter for power so always have to pull the unit out when car not running. Left in cig lighter overnight, couldn't start car next morning because of battery drain.

5 of 5 Strong radio, lots of channels. Tuesday, September 12, 2006

The Port Authority2 is the 3rd radio transmitter I have purchased to listen to my MP3 player on the car radio - and it is far superior to the competion (even before they broke). The unit uses the lighter plug for both power and as a holder. A separate spring wound cord attaches to the MP3 or retracts. The radio is stronger than other units, but still has some noise in certain areas. Turn the volume up on the MP3 and down on the radio and you are OK. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase.

Clear reception.. Very rarely did I hear the frequency noise disturbance.. easy set up - took less than a minute to play songs from my cell phone to the car audio.

Works great. Easy to set up and use. Quality is fantastic. I have been using the device for a couple of weeks and haven't noticed any appreciable difference between radio and device volume. My son was extremely impressed with the device and said he didn't notice any difference between his CD and the device. The best investment I have made in a while.
