| | | At an airfield in Angola, two men board a leased Boeing 727; then, once it is in the air, they slit the pilot's throat and fly to parts unknown. The consternation is immediate, as the CIA, FBI, FAA, and other agencies race to find out what has happened. Annotation: Military thriller master W. E. B. Griffin kicks off a new series by taking his readers to the country of Angola, where the hijacking of a plane is merely the first step in a devastating conspiracy. Turf battles among the various United States agencies have rendered them ineffective in determining the plane's whereabouts and the motivations of its hijackers. Therefore, the President assigns the mission to Carlos "Charley" Castillo, an army major attached to Homeland Security who must contend with the obstructionist behavior of his supposed government allies as well as with the terrorists.

| Author Bio| W. E. B. Griffin | | W. E. B. Griffin's first assignment in the U.S. Army brought him to Germany as a part of the army of occupation. Having first joined in 1946, Griffin interrupted his studies at Philips University in Germany to serve again in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, seeing active duty as a combat information officer. He continued to work with the Army after the war as chief of the publications division in Alabama, but left this post after publishing three novels and realizing he could now make a living writing military thrillers. Also the author of a series of police procedurals, Griffin is best known for the thrillers he set during both the Vietnam and Korean wars. Having had direct experience with his subject, Griffin injects all his work with a degree of detail and authenticity his readers have come to expect. |
