Sadly, while the TeraStation Pro2 boasts great physical features, (small, quiet) the operation was severely lacking.
AD integration was not the "simple process" claimed by pre-sales, repeated errors, time zone issues, inability of the linux kernal to use special character passwords (not unusual) and firmware problems made this a 2 day ordeal.
Time zone settings must be manually altered twice per year to effect a daylight saving time change.
Firmware update would not install when we changed the RAID setup to RAID 10 instead of RAID 5. Had to delete the entire RAID and recreate it as level 5 to update.
Tech support is extremely uneven, with little to no cross-team communication. The firmware update issue was initially dismissed as a PCB issue, but proved to continue in the other unit we ordered.
In short, we're sending them back and buying Netgear. Was this review helpful?

A Customer from Miami, FL
Bought the Buffalo TeraStation for a client. They needed external NAS backup for their file server. I used it to create multiple shares so they can access backups and files in case the file server was down.
Drives were Seagate 750gb.
First, check your drives when they arrive. Box got bumped and the drives were derailed. The rails are really just a raised bumped on the steel frame like a car bump on the road. They are enough to hold the drives.. just not great for shipping.
Buffalo worked well as expected. The web interface is good. If you use built in user accounts or groups.. you may want to test it out first. It takes a little playing around to learn how to properly setup shares and user permissions.
I did not use active directory or nt authentication option but it is a feature I intend to use later on. So far 1.2 gigs used no problems.
I recommend this product above the Lacie version. My Media department just bought one too. Was this review helpful?
