5 of 5 Good Value Saturday, April 04, 2009 Tonyp12 from Fort Lauderdale, FL
Pros: Small, the picture makes it look like a xbox360 but it's 1/3 of that size.
Web access is a nice feature.
Set TCP and UDP ports to 9000 linked to the Buffalo IP in your router, if you don't have UPnP.
Hint: If you create multiple folders,
with different user restrictions.
A PC (logged in user) CAN ONLY USE ONE username and password for all the folders it have access to on the NAS
This is a MS Windows limitation and not Buffalo's fault.
So make sure you log-in with the user name that have the highest level of access.
You would need to disconnect mapped network drive(s) in Windows,
if you want to setup a new log-in with a higher level of access.
Other Thoughts:
Good way to go green.
No need to have an PC that uses 200watt
running Windows Server2003 Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Love this product! Wednesday, March 25, 2009 A Customer from Texas
This product was very easy to set up and is perfect for a home network. The price is not bad either. Consider the fact that you are getting 500 GB of storage space, as well as the ability to back up multiple PCs automatically. The auto power feature is also nice.
The Memeo software is an additional cost, however it's worth it.
Overall, I highly recommend this unit to anyone. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good product but difficult to use Monday, January 05, 2009 A Customer from Kansas City, KS
This is the second Buffalo Linkstation NAS product from Buffalo I have purchased. This was more difficult to setup than the 1st one I bought. The basic setup went fine until I tried to map network drives. I had a lot of trouble because for some reason this product wants all users to be authenticated on it first. The user's manual was no help and after searching the FAQ on Buffalo's website I found an article about it. The article was not helpful in resolving the issue but at least confirmed other user's had the same issue. I was eventually able to get around the problem by using the IP address of the NAS instead of the name when mapping the drive but I still don't understand why it worked. Now that it is working most everything works well. The only other complaint would be that the auto on/off needs to be disabled to work properly. Was this review helpful?
