2 of 5 Good idea, poor execution. Tuesday, July 01, 2008
    A Customer from Shreveport, LA

I was initially excited about this item. However, after receiving it, I regret the purchase. The first unit I received did not work properly. All I got was an error. Never got it to the point of actually working. Buy.com was great in regard to an RMA, and they sent out a new unit pretty quickly. The second unit installed OK and I began to transfer files. As I got deeper into the operation of the unit, I found that the accessibility from the internet feature would not work. I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with Buffalo Tech Support, and finally got another RMA, this time from Buffalo. The third unit arrived and apparently all the features worked fine. I am now about 4 months with the unit, but it still is not 100%. It will just start beeping for no apparent reason, which requires a restart. Occasionally my computer has difficulty locating the unit on the network. At times I think it causes my "My Computer" screen to hang. All in all, it's a great idea, but poorly done. Wish I hadn't bought it!

    4 of 5 Linkstation Monday, June 09, 2008
    A Customer from Jackson, WI
I've been using this for roughly 2-3 weeks now. Set-up was easy, but the backup software wouldn't install automatically after inserting the disk. It was easy enough to find the executable on the disk and launch though, but this should be an unnecessary step. Once installed, mapping the drive was automatic and became instantly available for browsing. The backup software is slick and pretty self explanatory, which is good because it doesnt come with any documentation. After installation and my first backup of my MY DOCUMENTS folder I directed iTunes to use the backup music on the Linkstation. I did this for two reasons. I wanted my main music library on the Linkstation so that all computers on my network could access my music, plus I have a Squeezebox on my network and I wanted it to share my playlists so that I didnt have to create them twice, this works like a charm. The only difficulty was trying to mount the drive to my Ubuntu box, which was no fault of the Linkstation, but my own inexperience. One thing that would be nice is if the browser interface for the Linkstation was a little snappier as I am a slightly impatient person. All in all though, Im happy with the unit.
