4 of 5 Great value and ease of use, some noise Tuesday, April 10, 2007

If you're concerned about backup, this is a great choice in terms of value. Two drives that easily configure into RAID1 so if one drive crashes, the second will most likely be intact. Remember that RAID doesn't prevent corruption so if one drive gets corrupted or infected, the other will as well. But it's peace of mind for a hardware failure. Of course you don't get hot swap but removing the case and slipping out a drive is extremely easy with the channel-based slot they designed. One problem is rattling. The drives are mounted in a very loose klunky design inside the case. When it arrived, I shook it a little and the rattling of loose parts was obvious. It turns out it was mainly a thin clear plastic protective shield for the circuit board. But the drives themselves had too much range of motion. I inserted some non-conducting material to stop the rattling and it's been an extremely quiet, reliable drive ever since. I wouldn't advise this since it probably voids the warranty but trying to let the manufacturer know that they were a little cheap on the design and the customers notice.
