The Brother SX-4000 Elec LCD Disp Typwriter w/ Dictionary replaced an older style, but same model for my small office. It gets light use and seems to do an adequeate job.

I like this typewriter and recommend it. The price is right. I've used it for over a year without any problems, just some minor annoyances... The main disadvantage is that the typewriter does not save your settings when you turn it OFF. So if you want to keep your margins, tabs, etc you have to leave it turned ON. And if you leave it turned ON, it will get into a non-standard state occasionally (like maybe every month), requiring a reset operation (or, turn it OFF/ON). The spell checker beeps whenever it doesn't recognize a word, which I found slightly annoying. That feature can be turned OFF, but becomes automatic again whenever you reset the typewriter. It comes with a daisywheel designed for 10-pitch. It's still legible to switch to 12-pitch with the original daisywheel, like if you're filling in a form with limited space, but I use 10 pitch ordinarily. You can buy daisywheels designed for different pitches. When you turn if OFF/ON, or perform the reset operation, it makes a fairly loud grinding noise. I worried about it, and asked the manufacturer. They said it's normal.

Ordered the Brother typewriter on 8/19 and received the shipment on 9/1 Everything was exactly as expected and the price was considerable less that other vendors I checked with.
