5 of 5 Perfect All in One Thursday, October 15, 2009
Mike from Langhorne, PA

I rarely take the time to write a review but this product is extraordinary. It has done almost everything I ask (fax, scan, print, copy) and the wireless feature is just great. I have had it for about 4 months and have just changed the original ink cartridge. My wife who is computer challenged really loves it. She can use it without asking me a lot of questions. My only wish is that the FAX would allow error correction to be turned off - as a result I can only send faxes (using my regular phone line) but can receive them only using my fax-dedicated Magic-Jack on another fax machine.

5 of 5 Great all-in-one printer at a great price!!! Monday, March 09, 2009
Marc from Orlando, FL
My home network is completely wireless and I was looking to replace an old fax machine and a cheap laser printer that was connected to my desktop and shared with the rest of the network. This printer was the perfect fit. Now any computer in the house can print w/o having to power on the desktop and I have more space in the office (plus a copier/scanner to boot). Setup was a breeze, just follow the easy directions. Highly recommended, especially if you can get it for less than $200.

5 of 5 Great printer so far! Sunday, March 08, 2009
Trevor from Madison, WI
I don't really need a scanner or a fax machine. But the price was so low, I went with this printer even though I'll only use half the features. It was delivered quickly and was easy to set up and use by following the instructions. The instructions were a bit more complicated than I would have liked due to the fax setup stuff which I just ignored. The only thing I don't like is I would like to have the default function set to copy instead of fax. I'd rather not have to hit the copy button each time I want to make copies. Other than that I love it. Printing is fast and quiet.

5 of 5 Can't be beat, especially for the price! Saturday, March 07, 2009
Phil from Buffalo, NY
If you have a small business/home office, this unit really offers a big bang for the buck. It's a true all-in-one: Printer, Fax, Copier and Scanner. All 4 functions work ok. Granted, you can buy a Xerox, Ricoh or high-end HP unit that will print faster, hold more faxes in memory, etc., but NOT for less than $250 (I got mine during one of Buy.com's sales and it was less than $200). The unit offers decent print/copy speed and 33.6 fax speed. The scanner and document feeder are a little "pokey", but that seems like a small price to pay to get a full featured unit at this price.

5 of 5 All Pros, No Cons. Saturday, March 07, 2009
Floyd from West Jordan, Utah
This is the first Brother printer I have had and, so far I am very pleased with it. It was extremely easy to set up on my wireless network and it is working great with all three of my computers. I have never had the space for a printer with one of my computers but, now I can print from it as well as the other two. A great printer at a great Buy.com price. No complaints.

5 of 5 Brother All in One Wireless 7840W Delivers Saturday, January 31, 2009
Al Magee from Houston, TX
This is our second 5in1 Brother. I already had wireless running in our office. My son installed quickly without problems. It is working as expected and no problems. We had it a month now. We haven't taught the other desktop and notebook computers to communicate to it yet. It is computer printing, send/receive faxing and copying daily, which we do medium to heavy volume. I front feed letterhead by hand frequently and it works far better then the 7820N, with only one improper aligned feed. Only had one paper jam and that was caused by hand feeding a letterhead while still printing a prior job. Operator error. Only do scanning occasionally and haven't done it yet. Will liberate about 5 or 6 sq ft of desk space when the old printer is moved off my desk. Still connect fax by hard phone line, but that is not a problem. The new printer sits on the credenza behind me and is more accessible to me and others in the office. Originall set it on the end of the credenza, but slid it closer to my chair so I can hand feed letter head with out sacrificing accessibility to anyone else. I can reach up, get letter head in my hand and swivle and insert in slot with same hand. I have to stand up to read the display or roll up close to the machine to see it. Always had to stand up to see display on old printer because it was located on the far right corner of my desk. Restocking printer tray in new location is far easier, because nothing can be in front of the tray that would require moving. The first Brother 5in1 is a 7820N. We had problems when it was hooked up by printer cable thru a zip drive. When we hooked up by network all the problems disappeared. The cause of the problems was the zip drive. Got a good price from Buy.com and a promo for some more off. Delivery as promised.

5 of 5 Very Pleased So Far Saturday, January 24, 2009
Jerry from New Jersey
Works well, looks good. Pretty easy to set up. Have it working wired and wirelessly in a small office. Wireless setup was a snap. As someone mentioned, the scanning function is a bit slow but not a hardship. I've not yet tried the accompanying software (Paperport) so I can't comment on that. My only complaint about the prinetr initially was that it significantly curled the paper after printing. But I was using 24# paper. When I dropped it to 22# paper the curl is almost gone. I imagine 20# paper might be even better. I recommend this all-in-1.

5 of 5 Does the Job Monday, December 15, 2008
A Customer from Dowagiac, MI
Works as advertised. The software is a little flaky and slow to operate. Could not get the scanning function to work but everything else works great.

3 of 5 Qreat quality - Sofware needs improvements Wednesday, December 10, 2008
A Customer from Phoenix, AZ
After messing with it a little and reinstalling the software without all the extras, I was able to get the printer working well. Exceptional quality printing and fast too. I had some speed problems with scanning until I reinstalled everything and went to USB-only. I dumped the suite software and I'm using basic drivers now. The scans are very quick and some of the highest quality documents scans I've ever seen. I do a lot of documents, so seeing black text and clean edges is a Godsend after having my older scanner for 5 years.

5 of 5 Very happy Saturday, December 06, 2008
gk from Gardner, MA
Setting up the printer was pretty easy but setting up wireless scanning required using the setup on the cd (which was a snap too). Works beautifully so far, absolutely no complaints, glad I paid the extra for wireless networking.

5 of 5 Mac or PC Compatible Tuesday, December 02, 2008
MacMan from Wyncote, PA
I purchased one of these from a big box outlet for my parents in NC. They have a Mac and PC. Everything installed seamlessly on both platforms. I assigned a static IP to the MFC (I have not used the wireless) and then configured the computers. To my surprise all features (scanning, printing, faxing) functioned on both the Mac and PC. I liked it so much I bought one for myself and son from Buy.com. I don't want to tell you what the price was .....it will make you sick. Got it just before Black Friday for a ridiculous price. A couple of recommendations. You can put the thing to sleep when idle. Set the time low. Otherwise, it can use some electricity. Also, do not put on an extension cord unless it is beefy. The initial power surge is demanding (300+ watts). If I recall correctly, it sleeps at approx. 10watts. Anyway, you will not be disappointed.

5 of 5 So far is better then older Brother MFC Wednesday, November 12, 2008
A Customer from Texas
Replaced an older Brother MFC that had a part break with this one. Quiter than an inkjet. Faster. Easy installation. Had a problem with the Paperport software having a conflict with my virus program. Brother was very helpful in trying to fix this but couldn't due to it being with the virus program. However, it somehow fixed itself. I use these machines very hard. Older one very seldom missed a beat. This one seems to run faster.

5 of 5 So far so good Saturday, October 18, 2008
A Customer from park city, ut
I've had this printer for about 6 months and really dig it! It took quite some time to set it up as I needed to use wirelessly and had to call Brother CS every time I went to scan or print The IP address kept switching up on me like a ghost in the machine. Now everything runs smoothly. It takes a ton of power to run so make sure you have surge protectors on all of your computer peripherals.

5 of 5 Great For SOHO, but scanner can be slow on Wireles Sunday, October 05, 2008
Al... from california
Overall very happy with this unit. All features work as advertised and print is clean. Wireless setup was easy and it works well. Only downside is the Scan to computer via wireless is a little slow even with a fast wireless connection.

5 of 5 Love it! Monday, September 29, 2008
A Customer from Houston, TX
I recently started working from home and bought this for my home office. I love it! It's fast, easy to use, no problems at all. It has a pretty small footprint, too. I can't tell you anything about wireless networking because I haven't set it up. I'm hoping to tackle that in the future.

5 of 5 good home laser and scanner Saturday, July 12, 2008
A Customer from Melbourne, FL
Seems to work great! Have had it a little under a month now and have been printing regularly with great results. Have only used the scanner once but it worked fine. Setup was easy and the printer draws about 6W on standby (measured with Kill-A-Watt) so I don't mind leaving it on most of the time.

5 of 5 Hardest part of setup was rearranging my office Monday, June 30, 2008
MH from Bristol, CT
Wow! This shipped very quickly & set up was a breeze! This was the first product that wasn't a bear to set up -- even on my wireless network! Up and running within a half hour from opening box to scanning items into my computer WIRELESSLY. <p> The most difficult part was rearranging my office to accommodate the MFC. Its footprint is about the same size as the HP that it was replacing, but the adf on this one is larger height-wise and needs more wall clearance when it opens for using the flatbed feature. <p> I love that it scans into memory. You can also set the machine to print confirmations with image, so it's easier to see what you sent in case you don't attach a comfirmation right away to your faxed items. (I use this in my home business, so everything gets saved.) <p> Brother makes a very good product. I've had an HL5040 for over 4 years which I use regularly & heavily in business. It's never let me down (more than I can say for my HP multifunction which would mysteriously have communication errors when I really needed it). I expect that this Brother MFC will be a workhorse like my laser printer has been. <p> Did I mention that set up was SO easy? Connect to your wireless network from the machine itself, set the type of encryption you use & you're up and running. Since I connected wirelessly with ease, wired connectibilty wasn't tested. Based on this experience though, I don't imagine it would be too difficult. <p> So far, the only negative thing I've found is the display screen. I have the MFC next to my desk and from the angle of my seat, I cannot read the screen. So I have to stand up -- I could use the exercise anyway! I do wish the screen position was adjustable. The brightness can be adjusted however, so I may experiment with that to see if viewing from my seat improves. <p> I knew going with a Brother that there are separate drum and toner pieces. The drum life is long (I average one drum per year & can usually find a deal for drum replacement online) and the optional high-yield toner also lasts quite a while (also can be found online for reasonable prices). I usually stock up on toner & have at least 1-2 in the supply closet so I'm not caught running out. I also buy an extra drum to be prepared. I was considering the Brother 8460, but was really waiting for a better deal on it before making the purchase. I'd heard mixed reviews about other mid-range models, but this model had what I was looking for, and in my price range. I wanted networking, laser was a must, 33.6 fax speed, flatbed and adf options, increased print speed over my HL5040 (which prints 17ppm), memory upgrade option (I compromised on that one -- this unit has 32MB standard, no optional upgrade availability), dual paper tray (compromised again on that feature) and PCL-6/BR-3 compatibility (this has both). The features I compromised on were ones that I could do without. The unit is no noisier than my printer or previous units I've had in the past both at home and in an office setting. <p> I would definitely recommend this product based on my limited usage so far. The ease of setup alone makes it easy to recommend.

5 of 5 Amazing Machine Wednesday, June 04, 2008
A Customer from Buffalo, NY
I have used it for couple of days. It works excellent with no complaints except the LCD screen could be bigger and modern. Othewise, functionality wise its excellent. The wireless setup took less than 5 minutes and requires no cables for setting up. Extremely fast with low noise. Print quality is excellent. Comes with test toner which is good for 1500 pages. Copier and Scanner also work amazingly good. Overall, for this price its an excellent choice.

5 of 5 Great little multifunction machine Saturday, May 31, 2008
kenleesmom from Weatherford, OK
We purchased this machine for my husband's accounting/auditing business and we love it. It has worked out great for our printing and copying needs. We have not used the scanner or fax yet, but it makes good crisp copies and it was easy to set up as a printer. I love the wireless function. My kids can use their laptops in another part of the house and print out whatever they want. It is a great machine for the money.
