5 of 5 Great printer Sunday, April 26, 2009
A Customer from Ontario, California

We bought this new printer as a replacement for the exact same model -- it was cheaper to buy a new printer than buying a new drum cartridge. It is used in a high traffic retail operation on a daily basis and has not ever failed us. Have two of the printers running in the store now. The new one is networked for three cashiers to use.

5 of 5 Low Printing costs! Wednesday, April 08, 2009
Jeff from Cincinnati Ohio
EZ networking set up and the starter cartridge is still printing after thousands of pages using the toner save option. Duplex mode is saving paper. Been running all day, every day in a retail shop environment with zero problems. Bought 10 more of them after two months of testing. I spent thousand$ on color carts for my HP color ptrs. I went to these in B&W and threw the HP's away.

5 of 5 Big Difference in speed and quality Wednesday, October 29, 2008
A Customer from Indianapolis, IN
I haven't used this printer on a big job yet, but the speed it kicks out copies is great. I also haven't had the machine a long time, so I can't speak to the life of the ink cartridge. I also haven't looked at hooking up the wireless benefits. I have used the duplex printing a number of times and am very happy with the speed and quality of the printing. I'm using less paper and staples. So, while my review is limited, thus far I'm very happy with my purchase.

5 of 5 Another great product by Brother Tuesday, October 07, 2008
Ken from Marietta, GA
This printer is working great and was very easy to setup. Attaching your Windows workstations to it using the Peer to Peer networking is a piece of cake. This is our 4th Brother printer and all are still going strong.

5 of 5 Best Everyday Home Laser Printer Tuesday, September 02, 2008
dicklewandowski from Tustin, CA
Connected the ethernet cable, plugged in the printer, ran the CD-ROM on one computer that was to have access, printed the test page, printed one two-sided document, ran the CD-ROM on the other computers that needed access. Total time 12 minutes. Everything worked fine the first time and has been working that way since. Great price, excellent speed and print quality, quiet, economical! My second Brother laser printer. Would recommend it to anyone.

5 of 5 Great printer for the price. Tuesday, July 22, 2008
A Customer from Thorofare, NJ
I'm very pleased with the compactness of this printer. I replaced a HP all-in-one with the Brother. I was able to network this printer with my desktop and laptop by following the instructions I received with the shipment. It's fast and I can now print on both sides of the paper. So far I've had no hiccups at all.

5 of 5 Best value for a laser printer! Monday, July 21, 2008
Larry Seltzer from Fresh Meadows, NY
I have purchased many of these for my clients, so finally got one for myself. I'm a computer consultant and recommend Brother printers as a great, inexpensive alternative to the high-priced laser printers out there. At 2.2 cents per page (approx.), it's a great value. Prints come out fast, although it's not whisper-quiet. Print quality is excellent and the paper is barely curled from passing through the rollers. Cartridges have a LONG lifetime and drum kits are easy to replace (at around 25,000 sheets, I believe). This one is networked AND duplexes! What more can you ask for?

5 of 5 So far so good! Tuesday, July 08, 2008
A Customer from St Louis MO
I have only had the product for a month or so and it seems to be working fine. A little noisy but very fast. My first purchase came in damaged so I had to wait a few extra weeks for a replacement. I would suggest using a static IP address instead of DHCP. My DHCP lease kept changing the IP and I had multiple IP ports for this printer. The static IP resolved that. I would recommend it without hesitation. TS

5 of 5 Great Printer Thursday, June 19, 2008
A Customer from Huntley, IL
My very expensive laser printer broke. I was ready to order the part when I received an e-mail featuring this printer. The price was a third of the cost of the part alone. I ordered the Brother and I am 100% satisified. The print quality is great. It was very easy to set up. Great printer.

5 of 5 So far...great! Sunday, June 15, 2008
A Customer from Los Angeles, CA
This is hooked up at work and we share it via our network. It's very fast to startup and prints very quickly. So far, this has been great and a very good price. Our office is about 4 people, so it's not used too heavily, but exactly what we needed for our size.

5 of 5 simple, easy, does exactly what is advertised Sunday, June 15, 2008
devensk from Cleveland, Ohio
This printer couldn't be better. It was easy to set up on the network. It has worked perfectly. I honestly didn't know it did duplex printing when I bought it but now that I have the printer I find it to be a great feature. Very fast and energy efficient. Would recommend this printer to anyone

5 of 5 Fast, great quality, terrific value! Sunday, June 15, 2008
Brad from Hollywood, CA
I was looking for a color laser with duplex but they're just so overpriced. The Brother was impossible to pass up at this price and lives up to all the great reviews. This was an upgrade from an HP LaserJet 1200 and well worth it. The HP always had poor alignment, especially with the feeble manual duplexer. The Brother OTOH has perfect alignment, even using the built-in duplexer. And prints a 2-sided document quicker than the HP could print a single page. Network setup was quick and painless on a WinXP network. Highly recommended for home office or small office use.

5 of 5 Excellent printer, low cost Tuesday, March 25, 2008
A Customer from Minnesota
I've used this model at home for a year or two and now bought another one for work. It always works flawlessly, has good features such as duplex which I use a lot; it also holds a good amount of paper. Toner cartridges are reasonably priced. It always puts out excellant copies with no smearing. I don't think its ever had a paper jam. I'd highly recommend this printer.

1 of 5 Duplexing rollers went into reverse Saturday, March 22, 2008
Jeffrey from Walnut Creek, CA
A paper jam occurred during a duplexed print job of about 50 pages. After clearing the jam, the duplexing rollers (rollers at the top of the printer that pull the page back into the printer) would only run in reverse and jam every page. Did the printer power-on reset; no help. Called Brother US and they said it needed to be serviced and gave me a local number. Called the local number and they said that accessing the top duplexing rollers involved a lot labor. They said opening the unit beyond the toner cartridge involved a lot of labor. They suggested I think about how much I paid for the unit in the first place before having it serviced. I got maybe 1000 pages out of the printer before tossing it in the dumpster.

5 of 5 Great network printer, PC or Mac Tuesday, March 18, 2008
A Customer from Ann Arbor, MI
We have this set up on our home network. Took it out of the box, plugged it in, pointed our PC and mac at it, and away we went. Very low power usage when it's not printing. And having full duplex printing is really nice - it saves a lot of paper when you're printing, say, a dissertation.

5 of 5 excellent duplex network printer. Wednesday, March 12, 2008
A Customer from Las Vegas, NV
After using the Brother 5250DN printer for almost 6 months and printed over 4000 pages, I can say it has the following advantages: 1) fast printing even over wireless network, 2) duplex printing saves papers, 3) low printing cost (its per-page printing cost is about 1/2 that of similar HP and Canon printers), 4) Environmental friendly, Brother's TN580 high-yield toner can print 7000 pages before needing a replacement (Less toner change = less waste), 5) decent print quality (I don't expect great photo printing quality from a low price monochrome printer). I already replaced all of my HP and Canon printers with other Brother printers.

5 of 5 Best Printer Value on the Market Sunday, July 22, 2007
A Customer from Grand Island, NY
I purchased this printer to consolidate several printers in my home office and reduce printing costs. It is simple to operate and prints great. Text is sharp and graphics, including grayscale photos, look good in documents. The duplexing is an added bonus at this price too. I have this networked with Win XP, Vista, and OSX -- no problems.

Tony from San Antonio, TX
This printer came out of the box, plugged it in, loaded the drivers, detected it on the network, and printed over 1000 duplexed pages the first day I had it. Not one bad page or paper jam. And I'm still on the included toner cartridge.

5 of 5 Amazing printer for the money Sunday, April 01, 2007
Rastakins from Orange, CA
I bought this for a giant print job: 5,500 impressions duplexed. I printed the whole job at 1200 dpi. I wrote this review after I finished that big printing job. I have this printer interfaced to OS X via Ethernet. The popping others mentioned is the fuser warming up. No big deal. Superb image quality especially at 1200 DPI. The 32 meg of memory allows a full 8.5"x14" 1200 dpi page to be imaged in RAM. 64 bit(!) MIPS processor. The mechanism slows slightly when printing at 1200 DPI but it still amazingly fast. During duplexing it would have a paper jam every few hundred impressions. The printer would print the first side and the printer would jam when it tried to pull the paper in for the second time. Somewhat annoying. Very, very rarely picks up two sheets from paper tray. It has a very good power off mode which seems to shut everything off except the ethernet. Never a need to switch off this printer except when running out of toner; the printer does not power down when that happens. It has Postscript emulation (BR-Script) but it falls short of real Postscript. It runs astonishingly slow and some Postscript features remain unimplemented such as programmable screen patterns. I ran through the initial toner cartridge quickly and replaced it with a TN-580 High Yield cartridge. Though it is advertised for 7000 impressions, it indicated toner depleted and stopped functioning after about 3,500. I -ahem- hacked the cartridge and it has happily yielded 1000 more nice-looking prints so far. If the life of the cartridge cannot be correctly estimated, Brother should just allow the cart to be used until its performance is objectionable. My LaserWriter Pro 600 allowed that. Overall this printer has unequaled performance and features at this price point.

5 of 5 Everything works well, except... Friday, January 26, 2007
A Customer from Worthington MN
We purchased two of these and found it to be a fantastic printer. Easy to install and setup. The users are impressed by its performance and quality, except for the loud ticking sound it makes while printing. Brother was not able to determine what is the cause, but was willing to send us a replacement.

5 of 5 Good value for the money Monday, October 30, 2006
Roger Van Parys from Shelton, WA
This is my second Brother printer. The last one served us faithfully for 15 years before developing old age symptoms. The quality of the 5250DN is not up to its predecessor but then I paid 7 times the amount back then. Copies are sharp and installation was a snap. I purchased this from Buy.com and was totally satisfied with their processing and handling of my order.

4 of 5 This really is a tremendous deal for the $$ Tuesday, October 03, 2006
mark cohen from charlottesville, va
The printer is incredible for the money. I was a bit skeptical when I took it out of the box, because I'm used to relatively heavy HP's, - This puppy weighs less than some inkjets. The only thing I had a problem with was getting it set up as a standalone network device. I'm used to being able to get a dhcp-assigned IP address directly from the printer; either from a print-out or a display. With this brother, you have to install a separate bit of software to find the printer on the network, which then shows you the IP. It's worked perfectly through the first half ream of paper, although it does make some clicking and popping noises when it's running. In any event, you can't go too far wrong for the money.

5 of 5 Excellent Low Cost Printer Monday, June 05, 2006
rdgrossman from Egg Harbor Township, NJ
We have bought two of these for our office as local printers - they are networked primarily to make cabling more convenient. Print quality is excellent, and paper handling is generally good - trouble with envelopes is the only problem we saw. At these prices, consider getting a spare printer - the cost of the drum and toner cartrige are the same as buying an extra printer, and you'll definalely go through at least one more drum before you move on. With the spare you get an extra paper tray that you xcan swap out; easier than reloading a second type. We've also upgraded memory on these printers to the max, although that's likely a waste of money - no performance gain seen. An excellent printer at an unbelievable price - hard to beat.

5 of 5 Great network printer Monday, April 03, 2006
john from charlottesville,va
Since we have purchased this printer, we have been very pleased. This was for a home printer on a network with 4 macs and an occasional windows laptop. This is a very fast printer with no jams, easy to set up and so far very reliable. While this is a black and white printer only, it has been a joy to use. Considering the cost of the cartridge and the competing cost of ink-jet printers, there is no comparison. If you need a good b&w printer that is fast (not the most quiet), easy to set up in a mixed environment and are tired of the expensive cartridges of the ink jet era, this is a good buy.

5 of 5 Awesome Printer! Wednesday, March 01, 2006
bshow from Greeneville, Tenn.
I'm really happy with this printer. I have it plugged into my router and all my PC's can print directly to it. The driver software has an "auto discover" feature which automatically finds the printer on the network, so you literally just plug it in and go. First page out time is excellent, and print speed and quality are fantastic. Duplexing is a bit slow, but it works well and is really handy sometimes.
