Aside from the fact that everyone here played the Phantom on Broadway, each track on the album shares a similarly lush, romantic feel. Though Howard McGillin's "All the Things You Are" features an orchestral backing, Brad Little's "Forever From Here" has a smooth pop/rock production, and Steve Barton's "I've Got You Under My Skin" opts for an intimate, piano jazz setting, overall the album maintains its mellow elegance from start to finish. Other highlights include Davis Gaines' "Ol' Man River" and David Gaschen's "I'll Be Seeing You"; though Michael Crawford's "Charlie" sounds a little dated compared to some of the other tracks, the song still shows off the impressive voice of perhaps the most famous of all the Phantoms of the Opera. Broadway's Fabulous Phantoms is a unique collection, and one that should please die-hard Phantom-philes as well as most fans of show tunes and vocal pop in general. ~ Heather Phares |
