| | | Various authors of different nationalities appear together in this collection with themes that transcend frontiers and speak to all readers. The modern language and contemporary nature of the stories appeals especially to adolescent readers. Universally consecrated authors -- Cortazar, Moravia, Asimov, Allende -- and those with less resonant names -- Kordon, Gardini, Villafane -- share their voices in this book, symbolizing a pluralist concept of literature.
| Author Bio| Julio Cortazar | | Born in Brussels of Argentinean parents, Cort?zar was raised in Argentina but moved to Paris in 1951--the year in which his first collection of short stories, BESTARIO, was published. He lived in Paris the rest of his life, and was heavily influenced by the French surrealist movement. Renowned as a master of modern fiction, he was also a poet who worked in various modes, from free verse to extremely formal structures. He died of leukemia at the age of 70. |
