Features: DVD To his girlfriends, he was the perfect boyfriend. To his killers, he was a freak. In the end, Brandon Teena became an American Tradegy.
Winner of best documentary awards at the Berlin and Vancouver film festivals and the true story upon which the critically acclaimed Boys Don’t Cry is based, The Brandon Teena Story reveals how sparks from sexual ambiguity and individuality can ignite incomprehensible violence. By the time Teena Brandon was 21, she was living in Falls City, Nebraska, and assuming a new identity as a young man. There, Brandon dated several women, showering them with flowers, gifts and compliments. Forged checks to pay for the courtships landed him in jail, and his true gender was revealed-so began the events which led to Brandon’s end.
Featuring interviews with those who loved him, those who hated him and the death row inmates who sealed his fate, The Brandon Teena Story is a horrific tale of prejudice and hatred in America’s heartland.
 Editor's Note
A haunting documentary that tells the true life story of Teena Brandon, a Nebraska female who moved to Falls City, Nebraska, in 1993 and passed herself off as a male. When Brandon's newfound friends learned that he was, in fact, a female, their angry confusion triggered a series of brutal, horrific events that ended with the death of Teena and two other individuals. Interviews with actual players, including Brandon's girlfriend Lana Tisdel, as well as the murderers Tom and John, combined with audio tapes from Brandon's police interrogations, make this a poignant, unforgettable expose of homophobia and prejudice in small town America. Inspiration for the acclaimed 1999 feature film BOYS DON'T CRY.
