| | | 3 days in the life of a 1 night stand. Features: DVD, Widescreen, Aspect Ratio 1.85:1, Dolby Surround Sound, English, Subtitled A one-night stand turns into three days of bonding and exploring what men and women want from life--and from each other--in this sexy and provocative romantic comedy. When Josh (David Wenham, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers) and Cin (Susie Porter, Paradise Road) meet at a party, they are not initially attracted to each other. But when they share a taxi home, they decide to take advantage of an opportunity to have easy sex. Much to their surprise, their night of casual sex turns into something more than either of them expected, and as night turns to day and into night again, Josh and Cynthia realize they might have made a bigger mess of their lives than they could ever have imagined...their night of lust just might be the start of a beautiful relationship, and no matter how hard they both try to fight it and flee, fate keeps stepping in to bring them back together. When it comes time for Josh to leave, there is only one question left to answer: will they walk away or will they surrender? "Charming! Witty, breezy and heavy on the heavy breathing!" Editor's Note
Australian director Jonathan Teplitzky's debut effort is a cleverly crafted and witty look at the intimacies and fears of two single twentysomethings who get more than they bargained for over the course of a three-night stand. Josh (David Wenham) and Cin (Susi Porter) meet at a party and while sharing a cab ride home decide to engage in a simple, uncomplicated one night stand. Since Josh is a Londoner in town for only a few days the sexually attracted pair don't have to worry about any expectations or strings attached, or do they? Set solely in the confines of Cin's bohemian loft Teplitzky recreates the story of the couple's sex-filled days using a variety of storytelling techniques, including flashback and voice-over dialogue as Josh and Cin retell their own story from their often wildly different perspectives. Albeit slightly stereotypical: she takes too long to get dressed while he leaves the toilet seat up in the bathroom, the frank musings of the two commitment phobes engages the viewer in a very realistic and heart-warming exploration of twentysomething relationships full of risks, fears, and meddling friends. (Cin and Josh's recreation of their own story is interspersed with a variety of vignettes in which close friends discuss their own relationships.) David Wenham and Susi Porter share an obvious chemistry that fuels their onscreen banter and sexual adventures with a refreshing spark. Similar in tone to Rob Lowe and Demi Moore's ABOUT LAST NIGHT...or Richard Linklater's BEFORE SUNRISE Teplitzky successfully recreates an oft told story that begins with lust and ends with the unexpected surprise of love.

| | Professional Reviews | L.A. Times 7 of 10 Better Than Sex is funny and honest in tracing the way in which lust can trigger emotion even if it's not supposed to be part of the plan. At first the characters' lovemaking seems merely coy in its avoidance of ultimate explicitness. But in a gradual, lifelike way they acquire dimension and identity, becoming individuals instead of merely sexual objects, both to the audience and to each other. They are now ready to experience emotional vulnerability, that great challenge to young people living in open urban societies in which sexual freedom has become a given. - Kevin Thomas
