4 of 5 Good device..but don't lose the CD Tuesday, June 28, 2005

I find the Belkin Bluetooth USB adapter to be a wonderful device. It has worked flawlessly for me. HOWEVER, if you lose or misplace the driver CD that came with it you will not be able to install it on another PC. I needed to install it on a laptop for mobile use, but I couldn't find the CD. I downloaded several drivers/software packages trying to get it to work to no avail.
I have lowered my rating overall to a 4 since this makes the device of limited use. Buy it, it is a great device, but back up the CD and keep it in a safe place.

3 of 5 Problems with Win XP,SP2 Monday, February 21, 2005

It is a nice product but has problems running under winXP. After you assign(or winXP automatically assigns) incoming/outgoing port numbers to use it with a bluetooth device such as a bluetooth gps unit, you have those port numbers as long as you keep the belkin bluetooth on the usb port. If you remove it from the usb port --which you will eventually, you'll have to manually assign those ports again next time you plug it. Otherwise your interface program to the other blurtooth device will not be able to use belkin bt. with the current configuration (that you saved during the last use) beacause winXP port enumeration automactically assigns ports overwriting previous port numbers. Great Bluetooth device. XPSP2 will recognize it after plugging it in, no drivers necessary. However, you want the extended capabilities of this device, be prepared for a little tweaking. Due to its native drivers, Windows does not want to use the drivers included with the device. You have to manually remove the Windows drivers and install the new ones for the extra functionality of the audio gateway, networking, etc. After you get it setup, it's no problem. All in all a very nice design and functions flawlessly. Was this review helpful?

The device works well but was difficult to install on Windows XP. The directions were not completely clear. IF you buy this do NOT plug in the device to the USB port until the software is completely installed (It tells you to connect and gives the options of OK if you connect it, and Cancel if you don't. CANCEL and let the software finish installing -THEN follow the written directions CAREFULLY for properly installing the device.)
With better instructions/installation software I would say GREAT purchase. If you are NOT a computer geek like me, get a friend who is to help with this installation. Was this review helpful?

For an easy to use, easy to setup wireless connection...this is a great choice. Smooth and easy describe it to it's essence. If you are looking for a fancy-shmancy out of this world interface....keep looking. But if your wireless lan is screwed up, this will get you back up quickly. It is also great for connecting a wi-fi enabled PDA. Simple but effective. Was this review helpful?
