5 of 5 Great phone that's so easy to use Friday, May 09, 2008 Don G. from Mesa,Arizona
I bought mine because it appeared to be so easy to use. I first bought the Mylo Comm-2 and was amazed at how "UN" user friendy it was and I couldn't hardly hear it so after looking around I decided on the Belkin and am very glad I did. Mine last at least a day and a half on standby and is very easy to set up. I should never have bought the first one because I have a camera so I don't need that and have about 6 little mp3's so all I neede was a good little wifi phone. The Belkin does what it is supposed to do and does it very well... Easy to read the colored screen and I can hear the thing... a huge plus for me...
Don't be affraid to buy this phone, it is GREAT.. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Pretty satisfied Saturday, March 15, 2008 A Customer from Seoul, South Korea
For me, I turn the phone off when I know there's no wireless network nearby, so the battery lasts a long time. I'm not constantly talking or talking for an hour straight, so again, the battery life has been OK. Not spectacular, but not as bad as I thought, given all the prior comments.
Second, when you connect to a wireless network, you have to stay put, or at least stay within the range of that network. Is the person who had dropped calls trying to use it in a car or bus? That just won't work.
Ultimately, I prefer to use a computer with Skype, since I can get webcam that way. The phone, though, allows me to see if my loved ones are available when I'm walking about Korea, and I get to see their photo on screen. That's enough for me, and makes it well worth the price. 3 of 5 Where it works, it works! Saturday, June 02, 2007 astenv@yahoo.com from kialua Kona, HI
I made a Skype call on the handset in less than 2 minutes after opening the package.
In the Amsterdam airport, I cound not make it work even after paying $10 US for a wireless access password.
In the Cario airport, it worked well. But never again in any city in Egypt.
I have to train users on the other end to wait until I finish talking. If they or I start too soon, neither of us can hear the other. When the signal is weak, there is more of an echo than usual.
Skype appears to be today where cell phones were 15 years ago. But it is an excellent buy and I will continue to use it. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Everything is fine, except...... Monday, April 16, 2007 A Customer from Albany, NY
I had it test with both roadrunner cable internet and verizon's FIOS. In both environment, it worked fine. If you make a call to SKYPE user, which means, to computer, or another SKYPE wifi-phone, sound quality is good. Sometimes, when call to cellular phone using SKYPEOUT, sound was discrete a little bit, but acceptable. Figured networks easy and well, and connected to my preferred network tight, so it didn't loose the signal, at least, in my house. I am pretty much satisfied.
The only thing I mind is the battery. It didn't last as it said in the manual. The maximum was 1 hour 40 minutes, then I had to hooked usb cable to recharge it. When charged fully, it last about 1 day with stand-by, which means, you should not forget to recharge at least once a day.
Belkin, Netgear, SMC has exactly same product, I mean, same wifi and same design, exactly same phone but different brand name. I don't know what's going on. Anyways, the price with NETGEAR is higher in the market. Belkin was the best choice with price, especially, when BUY.com had a rebate.

on standby the battery lasted about 2 hours. belkin replaced it. the replacement is the same. it drops connection often. so you never know if it's "listening" or not. the sound quality is pretty good. but the software is glitchy. somehow i turned off the audible ring, and i can't turn it back on. it only vibrates.
a lot of money for something that works so poorly. i'm hoping that a software upgrade is on the way. Was this review helpful?

I can't seem to get away from a slight echo effect when using the Skype service. I've tried various equipment and internet connections (home, work, friends, etc.)
I'm pretty impressed with this phone in some area and others are satisfactory. The battery has good standby life, but though I don't use the Skype service as much as other people, I have ready the the phone requires a daily charge if you use it a lot.
The phone is not feature rich, but has most of the features you'd expect. Overall, I'm fairly happy with the phone and Belkin usually is always good at that. There are a lot of reviews online that I ready before deciding to go ahead and purchase this phone. A lot of them have lots of pictures, etc., so you can get a good idea of the look and features available.
I do still feel that $149 is too high, but the tech bug bit me and I had to buy. I feel that a more fair price for a phone like this is in the $75 to $100 price range, so unless you really WANT this phone bad, I'd wait for the price to drop down into that range. Netgear has a similar model, but it runs about $50 to $75 MORE than this Belkin phone.
Also noteworthy, I do not use SkypeIN service, ONLY SkypeOUT, so if you use SkypeIN, you might want to do more research to determine how well that service works with this phone before taking a $150 plunge. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very Slick Design/Great Wi-Fi Phone for the Price! Wednesday, March 07, 2007 Jorge C. from Pompano Beach, FL
Pros: Great phone. I was surprised how quickly it found my network. One piece of advise for those with wireless secured routers, please check the IP of the Skype phone under Menu > Settings > Networks > Network Info once connected, and make sure to add it into the DMZ of your Router. OTHERWISE, the phone will not ring when someone calls you, they will go straight to your voicemail. I obtained this info from Belkin Tech Support since this problem happen to me. Quality of the sound is fair good, no delay, again, Skype could be temperamental some times. You could connect and use the phone using Skype or Boingo, so there are options.
Cons: the maximum volume is still not loud enough for me, but maybe is just me. I would love to have a louder volume.

4 of 5 Perfect for International Calling Sunday, March 04, 2007 Jeffrey Loyd from New York, NY
I read a review that it was easy to set up and easy to use, so I buy this phone. That is 100% true. I was able to set up the phone in minutes and I have WEP security on my wireless router. The phone works great. The only issue is that the other party can hear an echo of their side of the conversation. Using Skype is a great solution to calling internationally. I recommend it highly. 5 of 5 "un-authenticated access" Monday, February 26, 2007 Road Warrior from Chicago IL
A great, rugged and easy to set-up unit, with one significant drawback when it comes to traveling: Most free-access and ALL paid-access WIFI services require some kind of browser-based authentication, even if it is just to agree to Terms of Service.
Here's a top of my head list of all the places I can NOT use this phone:
Panera, Borders, Barnes & Noble, McDonalds
All Hilton family, Holiday inn, Clarion/Comfort, Marriott family, Red Roof, Microtel, LaQuinta, Hyatt hotels.
Every one of a dozen airports I go through..... well i only have 500 words. I can't use it at any of these places, and i AM a BOINGO subscriber. Great for around the house though. Clear quality on medium to strong signal. Static starts at about 50% signal strength. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Finally the wait it over. Thursday, February 15, 2007 cherry from NYC, NY
Excellent phone for on the go. Started using it in less then 2 mins. Din't need the instruction at all. Finds the wi-fi quickly and connects even quicklier. Only its a little big in size on hand. I think they'll make them smaller in future. Overall great for the value, Netgeat charges over $200 for the same thing. Get One your Today!! Was this review helpful?

Was looking at several wireless options to do Skype on the go without draging out laptop. After trying to complicate it more than necessary like considering a windows handheld device, I decided to give the Belkin a try. Totally impressed, even considering the 6/9 buttons are reversed due to a minor assembly glitch . For a guy that doesn't read instructions, I had it set up, programmed, and placed first call within three minutes out of box.... Was this review helpful?
