5 of 5 Over 3 years old and I still LOVE it! Friday, February 22, 2008 Ken from NY
I was just reviewing my old orders that I had placed at buy.com and I saw that I ordered my N52 in 2004! I still use this pad for all my gaming. It's starting to show its age since some buttons don't 'Bounce' back up (they sit a little lower then the others). I think that I'll have to buy another one. I only gave it four stars for 'ease of use' since using the software that came with it kinda stinks. Your better off just installing the drivers and be done with it. . . .
Think of this 'game pad' as replacing where your left hand sits while playing a game. For most of us, our right hand is on a mouse and the left sits on the keyboard. Well, the keyboard has the keys 'skewed' or tilted over to the left a bit. So when you move straight up from the 's' button you might hit the 'e' instead of the 'w' like you meant to (when flying a plane and 'e' means 'eject' this can be a REAL problem). On the N52 there is a 'bump' to let you know that your hand is centered on the pad (just like keyboards have 'home' keys 'f' and 'j'). . . .
It responds quickly and sticks in one place pretty firmly (the entire bottom is covered with a rubber pad, not just four little rubber 'feet'). Perhaps the USB cable could have been a little bit thinner, perhaps a little bit longer. But I am really stretching to find something to complain about. . . .
Yeah, for less then $29 shipped, I think I'll order another one right now. . . . Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Not just for gamers Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Sylva, NC
This device works well for the CAD program I use. My only complaint is the scroll wheel. This is my third speedpad (the first was still covered under warrantee). The scroll wheel kept breaking. Other than that, it is a great time-saver. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great for cad Monday, October 08, 2007 Steve from Sylva, NC
I am not a gamer, but this product works great for cad work. Programmable keys are a real time-saver. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Buttons, buttons, buttons! Tuesday, August 28, 2007 JKKelVasa from Minneapolis, MN
I purchased this little gem over a year ago. I have had no problems with it. It has greatly enhanced by MMORPG gaming experience. I will never go back to just keyboard and mouse gaming again.
If you enjoy the freedom of two-handed, hands-on-the-controls at all times gaming, then this product is a must-have. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Best Gamer Device since the mouse. Tuesday, June 19, 2007 Sadaraine from Silverdale, WA
I have nothing but good things to say about these game pads. I've owned the n50 before and they made some serious improvements with the n52. This gamepad enhances play for almost any kind of PC game. It especially excells at FPS games. I've used it for RPGs, Strategy, etc as well. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 BF2-2142 So Sweet Tuesday, June 05, 2007 50Fifty from Glendale, AZ
Been using the Belkin Speed Pads n50 then the n52 since they were introduced. I started with the n50 in gaming circles with beta testing for Belkin. Then went right into the newer and much improved n52 when released for testing. I play BF2 and BF2142 exclusivly and the n52 Speed Pad is the "Sweet" answer to the BF2 gamers keyboard add-on for total game control. The only drawback I have to the n52 is that unless your an avid gamer who insists on perfection out of your game control and action, the n52 has a "learning curve" to get use to for the casual gamer! Be cool out there...50Fifty Was this review helpful?

I have a few friends with this thing and they had nothing but good things to say about it. When I say the cheap price n($19.99) and then got the additional $10 off for Google check out & free shipping! WOW. Only crazy people would pass that deal up!
Perfect fit for any FPS and any game in general. Thanks Buy.com for making my gaming experience a ton more fun with this item. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Product Thursday, April 12, 2007 A Customer from Coral Springs, FL
Ive had one of these for a long time now, its the most amazing thing ive ever used. Its fully customizable, feels good in your hand and has an easy to use interface. I have used this for games from FPS to MMO, its an amazing time saver, and keeps you from having to check your hand position. Macros are super easy to make, modify and use. It will mimic any key on your keyboard, and more. At this price, with free shipping, its well worth it. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Neat gadget, but doesn't program great for mod gam Sunday, November 19, 2006 Kramerr007 from San Antonio, Tx
This product works great for what it is intended. However, programming for the specific game doesn't work. Thus I have had to stick with the default configuration and work my desired keys into that layout; cannot customize as I would like or use the swith menu keys for added layouts. I still like using it better than my keyboard in spite of my inability to customize / switch. The game I play is Q3 - Threewave mod. It would work with Q3, but not the mod due to the limitation in name size / character recognition in the game association setup. Price is right! Was this review helpful?

I've been a PC gamer since the days of the Commodore 64 in the late 80's/early 90's and I just have NEVER been able to get used to the WSAD format. I have always remapped movement keys to the 4 directional arrows which causes issues obviously when attempting to use the other keys on the keyboard.
The Belkin Nostromo n52 is solidly built, well planned out and very easy to use. I love the ability to just create new profiles for each game and have them launch automatically whenever you launch the game title.
FINALLY something to give me an edge that takes very little time to get used to. I would highly recommend this item to anyone looking to customize gameplay to their tastes and style rather than being stuck with what the game developer wants you to do. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Product.... Monday, December 12, 2005 A Customer from Flagstaff, Az
A must for gamers....easy to configure profiles. Much better than keyboard alone. Was this review helpful?

I was a big fan of the Strategic Commander before this controller came out. This has so many more possibilities and the option for far greater precision. For PvPing in MMORPGs, which generally require quick access to many keys, this thing is a dream to use. The learning curve is minimal if you choose a logical setup for your necessary commands.
The only fault I find in it? No on-the-fly programming option that I have found yet. This one missing option by no means reduces my rating of 5's across the board.

The Nostromo n52 SpeedPad is a great accesory for your computer. It's functionality extends past games. You can set any button to perform virtually any command. With it's macro feature, just a single keystroke can type out a sentence or perform any action you can perform with a regular keyboard. This is great for anything that you find yourself typing often or repeditive keystrokes. The only drawback is that occasionally the control program "forgets" to load your customized profile and you have to do it manually. I think I use it more for regular applications than games. Of course it is an invaluable gaming product. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great For Gaming Tuesday, August 02, 2005 DelTASteveB from Newark,De
This is absolutely perfect for all FPS games. It takes no time to get used to, and is so much easier for gameplay then the standard keyboard. I love how you can map each key, and even set up 104 Diffrent mappings. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great product Tuesday, May 10, 2005 A Customer from Decatur, AL
Tried using just the keyboard and mouse for fps games, but it made my fingers cramp. The Belkin n52 speedpad fixed that quickly. Was this review helpful?

difficult to get used to, but a whole lot easier then missing keys in mid game Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Very good performance + price for FPS Thursday, November 11, 2004 A Customer from San Francisco, CA
I use this for first person shooter games. It's ergo curved layout and thumb controlled joypad switch gives me quick, comfortable movements and weapon selections. The rubber bottom holds solid to the desk. It's fairly easy to custom program the buttons for your personal settings. The palm pad could be larger and there could be more buttons. I recommend this product overall Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Awesome! Wednesday, September 01, 2004 Mitch Strickland from Hot Springs, AR
This thing is awesome and worked great right out of the box. I had to set up a few things in my games but after that it took no time to get use to. It made my hand feel a little wierd at first but after a while it seemed to fit better than using my keyboard for gaming. I highly recommend to anyone who plays First Person Shooters to buy one of these, you will not regret it! Was this review helpful?

This is an excellent product. I haven't used a keyboard for gaming yet since first using a Nostromo n50 and now the n52. It's nice to be able to play a game and not have to look at the keyboard to find a key- you can keep your eye on the screen the whole time. Especially great for FPS, but can be used for any game or program. At this great price, you cannot go wrong. I have nothing but good things to say about this product. If you don't want to program your own profiles, Belkin has some available for download, or you can find them at www.nostromon52.com. Try it- you'll love it! Was this review helpful?

PROS
Macro Editor Very Easy, Layout Editor Very Logical, AWSOME Price/Value ($25)

CONS
Somewhat difficult to unlearn using keyboard, no left-handed version

BOTTOM LINE
For serious FPS gamers, this is a DESIRED product. For laptop owner/gamer, this is a REQUIRED product. For any MMORPG gamer, this is a REQUIRED product.

FULL REVIEW
This thing is great for First Person Shooter games such as Medal of Honor and Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games such as Dark Age of Camelot, EverQuest, or World of Warcraft.

First Person Shooters:
If you have a laptop, as I do, this thing is a MUST HAVE. It is much more comfy to play FPS games. Laptops are awsome, but trying to play a FPS on a laptop keyboard puts a bit of strain on your wrist as you use the WASD keys to move, left shift to run, C to crouch, and SPACE to jump. It is the fact that the keyboard is attached to the display that causes the problem.

The n52 can be placed to the left of your keyboard, mirroring the mouse. This is much more natural feeling when playing.

Massive Online RPGs:
While I don't play any of these yet (waiting for World of Warcraft), I hear that the macro editor is ESSENTIAL. Those games require you to do actions in certain series of keystrokes, etc. The macro editor is very very easy to use and works great!

This is a great product, especially for the price. Be sure to shop around first. I bought one at Best Buy for $40 as a bit of an impulse-buy, then came home and looked online and found it at Buy.com for ~$25. Needless to say I ordered the one off the net and took the Best Buy one back.

4 of 5 Great controller! Monday, June 14, 2004 A Customer from Frederick, MD
I found this controller to be the best price on the internet. I decided to give it a try and I am very pleased. The only problem I have with the unit is the orange button requires too much pressure to use. You can use the button, but it is really hard to press, especially if you are playing an FPS game. It does take a few days to get use to all the buttons, but once you use it for a few days, it works great! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great, and works on MacOS X Friday, June 11, 2004 Wayne from Farmington Hills, MI
I am not a big gamer, but now that I have a computer that can handle a
first-person shooter game without sweating (a PowerMac G5), I decided to
try out a couple. My left wrist hurt after a couple hours on the keyboard!
I purchased a Nostromo n52, and I play better, and without pain. The
Nostromo Array software that comes with the game pad is great! Oddly,
it misinterpreted the directions on the D-pad (Up showed Left, Left showed
Down, Down showed Right, and Right showed Up). Belkin did not respond
to my request for assistance. While the pad worked fine, I found it mildly
confusing to program with this misinterpretation, so I fixed this problem
with a 1-hour re-wire inside the device. Now it's perfect! Was this review helpful?

I am already a fan of the n50 and desided to get this one. Not only is it FAR better than the n5o but going through Buy.com I paid less for the n52 than I did the n50. Sweeeeet deal. Was this review helpful?
11 of 11 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 So much better than the keyboard Friday, May 07, 2004 Rhelic from NY
This item was so affordably priced I was thinking about trying it so I purchased it and without a doubt I love it.
The feel is so much better than the standard ASDW keyboard mapping most first person gamers use. This device is more ergonomic plus you can tons of extra keys. Even though this device supports over 100 mappings, I don't use the alternates and in reality you'll never use more than the 14 keys + 1 of the two buttons. I use the thumb button (below the orange button).
If you're a FPS gamer, this item is a must have. Just like when you first learned to use ASDW instead of the arrow keys (as it's more ergonomic) you'll find this device so much better, you'll never use ASDW again.
PS: I use this device to move, jump, squat, etc and use the mouse for aiming. Was this review helpful?
