Belkin N1 Vision Router Review

So the N1 Vision is basically a router with a screen, isn't it? Indeed, so rather than focusing on the traditional router functions, we'll talk more about what's new. The setup is seamless and is disc-less. The screen is undoubtedly a luxury, but it's handy. ...read the full review

The N1 Vision is a 802.11N Draft 2.0 wireless router with something extra: The N1 Vision has a 3" LCD screen on its front. The screen can display the time and date along with various titbits of information about your network. It can even be used to set up a wireless guest account and troubleshoot connectivity problems....read the full review

4 of 5 Debatable whether it is worth the money... Tuesday, September 30, 2008
James D from Raleigh, NC

Distance is not good, speed is also an issue. But, bought it because I liked the dispay and looks - I know, vain of me.

1 of 5 Avoid at all cost! Tuesday, August 12, 2008
A Customer from Phoenix, AZ
This product did not work from day 1. I enabled UPNP but all upnp devices say it was not enabled and failed Microsofts test as well. Wireless would work for 10 minutes and then drop and only way to get anything to reconnect was to reboot router. I contact support they sent me new bios which did not fix and ontop of other issues the wired drops off every other day and guess what. only way to reconnect is to reboot router. Range is half what my 4 year old router was as well. And to top it off buying it thru this site only gave me 15 days to return for money back and it took longer than that for Belkin to try and troubleshoot, every response from them took 2-3 days for support.

4 of 5 Belkin N1 Vision Router Wednesday, July 23, 2008
Nyles Paris from Caliente, CA
I like the visual display. Don't like the sluggish response & mushy navigation curser. Also I have a printer & security system that are both networked. They will show up on the display as "unknown1" & "unknown2", then after a bit will disappear from the display. I think I would recommend it to a friend, BUT I would have to tell them the down side. I am hoping that a new firmware update will help (have #15 now). When I received router, noticed all these issues above & contacted Belkin. They were very helpful, sent me a new router right away, but same problems existed. Would I buy the "Belkin N1 Vision" router again? I think so. Nyles Paris

3 of 5 Pain releif - or Work In Progress Part IV Wednesday, March 26, 2008
Paul from Huntersville, NC
OK - so don't use the UnPn Advanced function - thats what will reset the router! Not reviewed the logs yet but switching it off stopped the (apparently) random resets of the wireless security etc.. Otherwise now I've ironed out most of the glitches I've encountered.... If you have a simple set-up I've no doubt it will be OK to use this product.

1 of 5 Pain! Or: Work In Progress Part 3 Sunday, March 23, 2008
Paul from Huntersville, NC
This router keeps resetting itself (doesn't stop working) but switches off my wireless security and resets its self to default settings (time/clock either gets reset to Pacific or GMT). I've downloaded and flashed the latest firmware. I've re flashed to make sure it wasn't that. I've got it running on a UPS system so there is no power interruption (and when I power it down and restart it, it remembers my security settings !!). Other than - it still looks pretty.....

5 of 5 N1 Vision Wireless Router - Great Job Belkin Tuesday, March 18, 2008
rrae10 from Huntington Beach, CA
I have to disagree with the gentlemen from Huntersville, NC. I didn't have one problem setting up the N1 Belkin router except for a login and password that I needed to get from my cable company because I didn't have one. The router runs great!!! I have to say its fabulous! I have an iMAC that I just purchased here a couple of weeks ago and my old PC which is wireless running on the Belkin router. No dropped connections at all. I would recommend this router to anyone. The "G" routers are going to fade out and people are going to need to upgrade to the "N" routers and this Belkin router is the best! My Linksys "G" router failed on me anyways, plus when I purchased the iMAC the Linksys router was not MAC compatible. I have a father who has been in IT for over 30 years and is jealous that I have this router and is going out to get one!

4 of 5 Further to "Work In Progress" Saturday, March 08, 2008
Paul from Huntersville, NC
I got there in the end - it was the connection through my (BELKIN) UPS that could not handle the 1000bps - routed though a gigabit switch only from the RJ45 jack on the wall it wored fine.... With the gigabit switch and ethernet card my pc to pc connection is much faster.... Still looks good :-)

3 of 5 Work In Progress?? Friday, March 07, 2008
Paul from Huntersville, NC
Dear Belkin: OK - it looks good, but is this still 'work in progress'? Its easy to set up (a replacement in this case for another Belkin router) and I'm in IT (20 years) so it should be easy, right? Step one connect it up - lights up and my "main" PC connects (running Network Magic) and all seems OK. I set up my wireless security and add in my MAC Addresses for my wireless devices (Laptops, Networked DVD etc.) and get them connected - a couple of 'hiccups' but no biggees. Quick check on my other 'wired' PC in my living room and it appears to have some kind of connection. Then I downloaded the latest firmware update and installed it - router re-cycles. Ooops - my wireless laptop is no longer connected - issue with MAC addresses has arisen - IPCONFIG /ALL check the MAC address re-enter and get it going again (but I still have to re-cycle the connection every time the laptop is rebooted). Main PC is still OK. Living room PC - on closer inspection its not working correctly anymore. Messenger won't start, IE won't connect to internet and my shared folders are 'greyed out' - no access. Tried everything I can think of .....several hours later I retire for the evening... I know I'll get there eventually.... ...but it does look good. I'll update more later...

5 of 5 ALL Routers need an LCD Display! Thursday, November 29, 2007
Walter from Chico, CA
WOW! That LCD Display is THE reason to own this thing. I *FINALLY* know what my Router is up to! No more random blinking lights. I know who's on it, and what's going on. I used to be paranoid of neighbors stealing my WiFi and killing my own downloads, but now I can see when it's being used and how much. It's a great peace of mind. Just wish the LCD screen was LARGER, so it could show me all of it's sub-screens at one time. I leave it on the Download/Upload display. Otherwise, it's a pretty standard router. I have no "N" transmitters and it seems to work fast enough for wired and wireless "B" devices. Never noticed any range issues.
