Belkin F5D8000 Wireless Pre-N Desktop Network Card

This card was used in an old computer (P3, 866mhz, 524Mb Rambus RAM, ATI 9660 256mb video card, S/B sound card) to connect to the wireless Pre-N router purchased a month ago. Didn't expect much, but was pleasantly surprised; connection was good and fast. Bought into Pre-N Belkin only because of the users reviews. This Pre-N setup is very good, but always wonder if the Belkin N-1 is any better. Overall, if you can still get your hands on the Belkin Pre-N (my understanding was that Pre-N is gradually being replaced by the N-1 model), I don't think you'll be disappointed.

My building has a reception issue that causes wireless network cards and even cell phones to occasionally drop their signal. I installed both the Belkin Pre-N Wireless Desktop and Notebook cards in my computers about one year ago and haven't had a problem since, even leaving the same D-Link wireless router in place! Belkin is a little pricey, but in this case you get what you pay for. I can not recommend this product enough for both increased speed and connection reliability. Stop reading this review and buy it right now! :)

Belkin has become my manufacturer of choice for wireless networking and this card is a major reason why. I had problems with my wireless connections in our 4,000 square foot home, so I upgraded to Belkin's pre-N router with fabulous results, even with our older wireless-B cards. Then when I added a new system, I decided to give this adaptor a try. It was a bit pricey compared to other cards out there, but the pre-N capabilities intrigued me. The end results were so impressive, the cost was justified. Suddenly, it was like the computer had x-ray vision -- it could could see the router through the upstairs floor, 4 walls and a refrigerator and still showed an "excellent" connection! I install home networks and see quite a few "multi frequency" households where they want/need to keep an older adaptor, but also want to take advantage of the latest technology; Belkin has it covered with this card and their pre-N router. If you need to overcome any connection issues, this is the card for you. (As a caveat: I, too, initially had the same problem with the "upside down" installation described in the post above, but since I've learned to take all tech manuals with a generous grain of salt, the problem was minor for me.)

I followed the instructions provided in the manual to install the card but was not successful. I had to call the BELKIN technical support and could reach them in no time. The support person told me that there is an error in manual and asked me to insert the card facing downwards and everything went on well.
