As far as switches go, this one is pretty decent. There is another automatic switching Belkin but I choose to go with this item cause it does not require you to add softeware for switching.
It takes a while to figure out what the lights represent. Even weirder is trying to figure out which buttons to push. However, the learning curve is not too bad. I have a USB scanner, USB Printer, USB External Drive and a MP3 player (that requires a computer to charge up).
This is a better option than setting up an ethernet network in your home. The only problem may be finding long enough USB cables. Was this review helpful?

If you have multiple computers and want to switch your USB devices between them, this is the right box. No special s/w required. you can switch any usb device to any computer, and switch multiple devices to a single computer. devices and computers can be a mix of usb 1.1 and 2.0 speeds. (But if you switch in a 1.1 device to a computer, the 2.0 devices on that computer will slow down.) I've used this to switch memory card readers. DVD writers, CD writers, and diskette drives. It is supposed to do printer sharing too but I haven't tried that. It even works in switching devices between windows and OS/2 systems -- should be fine for linux as well. It has lights to show with computers and which devices are powered on, and the device lights blink when traffic flows. Was this review helpful?
