5 of 5 Works Good Monday, October 13, 2008 JB from Claremore, OK
I purchased this about 1 month ago for my TV. I have a DLP and just had to replace the bulb do to power flickering on and off. Repair man suggested a battery backup to give the bulb time to cool down. Anyway, looked online, did some comparison, and this Belkin was the best deal for the backup time compair to cost. Shipping was fast and it works great. It actually would keep my TV running for about 10 minutes...I just had to test. Was this review helpful?

This is a good lower end UPS and a decent value for the money. If you have a high end gaming computer with a 750W or above power supply don't buy this one it won't handle it. I actually bought this one for a lower end desktop that is used for buisness and it works great but I tried it first on my high end gaming computer and with the computer and the 22" monitor plugged in it was overloaded. With just the computer plugged in it was ok but when I unplugged this fully charged UPS it kept the computer running for about 25 seconds. Be careful when you buy a UPS, make sure it will handle what you are going to throw at it. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 High Quality Unit Sunday, June 15, 2008 Ray from Bucks county, Pa
This Ups seems to built with high quality standards. We lost power 2 times the first week we owned this UPS and it kept everything up and running with no problems. We also had 3 brown outs and it kicked right in without hesitation. The smell I am reading about appears to be that of new electronic equipment and not the battery charging, at least with my unit. I have no odor at all after a few days. The top outlets and small footprint for such a powerfull UPS is great. With the rebate, this is a very good deal. good luck!! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Nice Box ! Tuesday, June 10, 2008 TomS... from Delaware
I'm very pleased with this UPS. It works very well, provides full backup for my overstuffed Pentium 2.8 MHZ machine and monitor for about 12 minutes. I didn't notice the smell much beyond the first day, typical for most new electronic devices. I gave it a 4 for ease of use because I had to plug it in - it should've worked right out of the box!? And a 4 for overall satisfaction because it only has one internal battery -I was expecting two. My advice -buy it, you'll like it!... Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Belkin Battery Backup with Surge Protection (550VA Tuesday, June 10, 2008 AZ from Baton Rouge, LA
I bought this unit about 10 days ago. I tried to install the software power management, which came with it, but the CD could not even be read by the computer, like a blank disk. This is joke!! I tried download the software from its website and installed it, but again it does not work properly. Wasting my time! The support does not reply my message. Now I just use the unit as surge protector and battery back-up in the event of power failure. To be honest, I do not know how well the software will manage the unit and my computer.
PS: The unit does have a small humming noise, just like HV transformer in the substation. I do not have experienced any funny smell. I think for this type of unit, the maximum load is 300Watt, so we need to calculate Volt x Amps plus whatever equipment we will use to prevent overload or equipment failure. It does not give you an extra safety factor on the max. load.

5 of 5 Works Brilliantly Monday, June 09, 2008 A Customer from Baltimore MD
I've purchased one of these units two years ago, and it works so well, when I had another need come up for a UPS, getting a second one was a no-brainer.
Works great, no complaints!

5 of 5 It's a really good back up Wednesday, April 30, 2008 A Customer from DeLand, Florida
After a good charge I started using it. I had no idea that it would be tested so soon, a tree took out electric lines down the road that day. No problems at all. And no smell, which I had noticed others commented upon. I like Belkin products overall!! Was this review helpful?

Stays on when power cuts out, as expected. But I plugged my printer into a backed-up outlet (as opposed to just a surge protected outlet) and when it kicked on it overloaded the unit and the whole thing shut off thus killing power to the RAID that I purchased this thing for. So don't overload it!
Otherwise love Belkin products! Was this review helpful?

This UPS works very well, I really don't have any complaint about the operation, but it sure does smell. I am going to give it a week or so to mellow out. If the smell doesn't go away, I will replace it with a APC. I would NOT recommend this to a friend.... Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Great Unit, Bad Smell Sunday, March 02, 2008 A Customer from Apache Junction,Arizona
I have had this unit powered for over a week. From day one, it stunk. Whenever it is powered it smells. It works great. I have had several APC units and I have never had one that stinks so bad. I am going to tolerate this unit for the short term but may replace with an APC if odor continues. Would not recommend to a friend.... Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works great, price is right! Sunday, March 02, 2008 Tony from Owings Mills, MD
It does what is suppose to do. I have computer, monitor and bunch of other accesories plugged in and had loss of power couple of times. Everything was safely powered up.
I like Belkin products in general. Never had any problems. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good buy Sunday, February 03, 2008 Dave from East Tennessee
This product is working fine so far. Rather than loading the CD, I downloaded a newer version from belkin.com and never could get it to work right. Tried the CD and it did fine, so I didn't try to upgrade since it was working. Got an older 2.0 gHz desktop, 17" LCD, laser on the non-backup outlet, and it's running at about 25% load. Noticed that when I pulled the wall plug to test it, the load dropped to about 17%, so it's including the non-backup outlets in the load. Performed fine. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Great price, awful smell Thursday, January 31, 2008 ben from Portland, Oregon
This seems like a great unit, but so far we haven't had a chance to try it out, as my wife refuses to let it into her office because of the off-gassing plastic smell it emits when plugged in. I'm keeping it plugged in in a little-used portion of the house in hopes it will eventually get through its smelly phase. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Arrived as advertised Thursday, January 31, 2008 Smoqetr from Carlsbad, CA
This is the forth Belkin UPS I've purchased and installed on different desktop computer systems over the past year or so. I've always been very satisfied with Belkin UPSs and this recent purchase was no different. The 550VA is not a hugh amount of back-up power, but enough to protect my system during the occassional brown-out in my area. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Awesome value Friday, January 04, 2008 A Customer from West Fargo, ND
It does everything as advertised. In addition this unit is smart enough to check the polarity and other quality aspects of the wiring it's plugged into. As a non-electrician who did all the wiring for the room I constructed in my home, it felt good that the Belkin approved of my work. If you are building a media center PC, as I did, you should buy this for this price ($50).
Note that this is heavy because of the lead batteries. Also note that this is about the size of an Xbox 360 so heads-up if you're putting it in a real small place. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Buy.com review ... Thursday, December 27, 2007 A Customer from Missouri
I haven't lost power since I got this, so no "real world" results are available yet. The ordering process was very simple and the shipping was really quick! The box got here in perfect shape ... I will submit a further review if I have issues with the product! I SHOULDN'T since it's Belkin and I have had really good luck with their products! Was this review helpful?

2 of 2 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Not bad for the price Sunday, December 02, 2007 G Hunt from Idaho Falls, ID
Probably a matter of taste, but as the owner of 5 other UPS units, I like having the outlets on top rather than in the back--don't care for crawling around on the floor with a flashlight to read the labels. Initial rundown test gave reasonable backup time (>15 minutes on a garden-variety P4 desktop and 19" LCD monitor) for a bargain-basement price unit. The weight suggests the battery is not as big as a comparable APC unit (but neither is the price.) Was this review helpful?
2 of 2 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Good for the price Sunday, December 02, 2007 A Customer from Pembroke, MA
Plugged it in, installed the software, and it's working great. I even setup the e-mail notification for some of the events and the next day I noticed that the power went of for 20 minutes at 2 in the morning. I have a server and all my network devices (cable modem, 2 wireless routers, 2 USB print servers) USB external HD, and my laptop power supply plugged in and it's only at 35% load. I've had 3 Belkin UPS's and never had a problem with them. This is my 4th and I don't think it will be my last. I did like the interface on Bulldog software that came with the earlier UPS's better than this Java version but it's usable. Good quality product for the price. Was this review helpful?

1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 2 of 5 Great Design, Shoddy Software Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Nate Smith from Wooster, OH
I bought this for my Mac after researching a number of UPSes. I really like the upright configuration of the UPS. Unfortunately, that's the extent of what I like about it. I've never been disappointed with a Belkin product until now. OS X has the ability to monitor a UPS, but Belkin opted to use their own software instead. The software is Java based and is not only complicated, but it also isn't designed to run in the background on a Mac. I ended up using it with another computer (a Windows box) because the software worked marginally better on it. If software isn't a make it or break it feature, this is a great UPS - especially if you buy it on sale or with a rebate. If you want software to control shutting down your computer automatically during a power outage and other UPS configuration options, I would highly recommend spending the extra money on an APC UPS, for both PC and Mac users. 4 of 5 Very good basic unit; high value for price Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Sebastopol CA
Plug in and go. Lots of options for plugs/jacks. Did have an initial burn in electrical smell, gone within a week. KEEP THE INSTRUCTIONS HANDY UNTIL FAMILIAR WITH IT. Some reset functions are not intuitive, but still simple. Best feature for me is the power down protection. Blackouts in rural N. Calif. are not common, but brown outs come with every storm, and breaker provides no safety for that. Will buy more as we finish a second home office. Was this review helpful?

3 of 3 customers found this review helpful. 3 of 5 Smells, hums & warm even when off. Better than no Tuesday, October 16, 2007 A Customer from NJ
A rebate brought this down to about forty dollars for me but still this item disappoints. Used UPSes for over 20 yrs, mostly great ol' APCs that lasted > 10 yrs & were more costly but reliable. But now we want < $100 UPSes:)
Issues w/this POS:
* Smelled especially bad the first 24-48hrs plugged in (charging batt I guess). Afterward just smells bad, but that will probably pass.
* Unit stays warm exp. rear top all the time, even when off.
* Low hum audible in quiet room.
* Must press & hold switch 2 secs for on/off & insists on beeping/self-testing on pwr on.
But it is handling a mid P4, monitor, cable modem & wireless router.
Could put up w/the issues in an office environment, but certainly not in a bedroom. Even the Cyberpower we bought a year ago for maybe forty dollars more is miles better than this unit (has none of the aforementioned issues).
Do yourself a favor & spend $20-$40 on a different brand (esp. if for home). Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Does What It's Supposed To Tuesday, October 02, 2007 A Customer from Yorktown Heights, New York
Have had this product for three months and have had no problem with it. It's easy to install and the software it comes with works fine. As luck would have it, I have not lost power since I bought it, but have turned off the circuit breaker and it did what it was supposed to. Not something you want to use to keep working after you lose power, but it gives you enough time to power down. The way the sockets were arranged allowed me to go from two surge protectors down to this one. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Pleasantly Surprised Friday, September 28, 2007 Kevin from Colorado
This was my first Belkin UPS. I've used APC and others in the past. The 550/330 has plenty of power for one typical PC, and the included software will tell you what % of its capacity you are drawing in real-time.
I like that it is vertical - easier to reach the power plugs on top versus others of similar size that have them in the back. Was this review helpful?

This is a great Product and I check almost every Site On line and you guys had the best price. 5 of 5 Good monitoring and control software Tuesday, September 25, 2007 Dave from Raleigh NC
In the days of Win9x I found the software that usually comes with a UPS to be a nuisance if not a hazard, so I got in the habit of not using it. But it's certainly better for the PC as well as the UPS for an orderly shutdown to occur when there's an extended outage, and UPS software doesn't seem to cause the trouble it once did. Compared to APC's, Belkin's software currently offers a broader array of control, monitoring and reporting options that can be quite useful if you want to see what has happened over time, unravel the chronology of a specific power event, or if you need to manage a PC remotely. 5 of 5 Belkin F6C550-AVR Tuesday, September 25, 2007 Larry from Wellford, SC
Received the unit in excellent condition and in a timely fashion from Buy.com. Installation was extremely simple except for the performance monitoring software. The version supplied on the CD with the unit never worked. I went to the Belkin website and downloaded a different version which worked great.
The unit has been very easy to use and I have been able to connect more equipment to the unit than I expected to be able to due to lower than anticipated equipment current draw.
Can't say that it has saved anything from spikes or brownouts since the weather has been more drought than anything else since installation. However, I am happy with the unit and have no problem recommending it. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good buy, performs well Monday, September 24, 2007 bdoserr from Rural Eastern Virginia
I bought two of these when they were on sale a year ago, and have been very happy with them. The software is particularly easy to set up and use, with good logging, periodic self testing and network notification of problems. I bought a third two months ago and it performs just as well. I just have to remember that holding the power button for two seconds turns it on or off, while doing the same starts a self test with my big APC UPS.> Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Nice UPS for light duty use Monday, September 24, 2007 A Customer from Louisa, Virginia
These are good units for light duty backup. I use one of these for my home desktop PC and three more connected to my Satellite receiver/DVRs. We have a lot of brown outs in the summer due to thunder storms and these units keep my satellite receivers protected as well as online to prevent the long bootup time after a power outage. I can't speak for the software for turning off your PC because I don't use it. I would definitely recommend this UPS for light duty. Was this review helpful?

I dinged this ups for not having good status information using the interface cable. I should have spent more time trying to figure it out. Don't know why it didn't show up at first. It seems to work just fine and has lots of good info. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Small ding for software Tuesday, September 18, 2007 A Customer from Austin, TX
This item seems to work well. My only ding on rating is because I got an APC that had all the same specs and a similar price. Have them both hooked up with software so that they can shut down the computer in case of an extended power outage. Maybe I haven't figured out this Belkin, but... the APC has a battery status indicator that gives me a better indication of the condition of my battery. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Value Friday, September 14, 2007 Steve from Cypress, TX
Installed for home office to protect the cable internet line for my Vonage phone service in the event of a temporary power failure as well as backup for my laptop. I have not had to put it to work yet, but I feel certain there will be enough power for 5-10 mintues. This will allow time to shutdown the system safely and/or forward office number to my cell phone.
The software is not anything I wanted installed on my laptop because I disconnect it from the power when I travel. This causes a report to generate prompted by the software because it does not "see" the laptop connected to Belkin. I uninstalled the software to speed up the boot. It appears this would be ideal for a desktop PC though. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Works as advertised Monday, August 13, 2007 sdb from Galveston,TX
Good bang for the buck. Belkin loses a point in overall satisfaction because of the sketchiness of their web site. This particular UPS,F6C550-AVR, lists the replacement battery, a user manual, etc, but others do not. Try to get specifications or documentation on F6C1000-TW-RK. Overall I am happy with Belkin products, I have several, I just wished their support was better and putting more information on their web site would be a start. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Good Product Tuesday, August 07, 2007 Richard from Covington, Louisiana
I bought my Belkin about 1 1/2 months ago. It only took 2 days to receive it after I ordered it even using the free shipping. The unit was easy to install, it is quiet, I don't even know its there, and yesterday, for the first time since hooking it up, my electricity went off for about 30 seconds. The Belkin did its job instantly and kept my computer from kicking off. This item is well worth the price and more! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Gets The Job Done Thursday, July 19, 2007 A Customer from Louisa, Virginia
I have 2 of these UPS systems connected to computers in my home. They have worked without issue over the past year or more. I don't use the automatic shutdown software as I don't normally leave my PC on when not at home. I just wanted these units online for those momentary power hits and outages that we seem to have frequently. The unit gives me plenty of time to shut down my computers gracefully if the power is going to stay off for a while. I have just ordered 2 more of these units to connect to my DirecTV Reciever/DVRs. If you have ever had multiple brown outs and had to wait for your TiVo to reboot you can appreciate having a UPS on it. Overall these units do what they advertise. I am please with the performance in my application. Was this review helpful?

I have only had it for a couple of weeks. The shipping(standard) was super fast and I received the Belkin in just a very few days. It was easy to hookup, mine is quiet and I think it is a real bargain at the price Buy.com is selling it for. I am happy with my purchase. Was this review helpful?

Great price, rebate, free shipping. Prompt delivery. Hadrware works fine without any software. This has kept the system running through numerous power dips and brief outages. 5 of 5 Works great out of the box Monday, May 28, 2007 A Customer from Churchville, VA
I've only had it a week, but it works well and quiet. I just plugged it in and charged it for 12 hours, then plugged the computer in. I unplugged the UPS and everything worked smoothly. Plugged the UPS back in and continued. I'm thinking of getting a larger one for my main system and equipment. I did not try the software, but I don't plan to use it... just something else that may break. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 Plug it in, turn it on, it works Saturday, May 26, 2007 A Customer from Mena, AR
I bought two of these on this order. I have several of the other major brand. I prefer the Belkins. Too bad I ordered them when they were $8 more than they are now. Now they are an even better buy. Pros: 4 outlets for each receptacle type, Surge & Battery, and Surge alone. No taking apart to attach battery initially. Stand on edge and edge mounted receptacles use less apace.
Cons: One of the two had an electrical "cook in" smell for a few days. Would be better if the two end receptacles, rather than just one, were spaced so that an over sized adapter could be plugged in on each end. Was this review helpful?
