Enjoy these two family classics in one package with BECAUSE OF WINN DIXIE and FAR FROM HOME: THE ADVENTURES OF YELLOW DOG.

BECAUSE OF WINN DIXIE: Based on the best-selling book, Because of Winn-Dixie is the heartwarming "tail" of a young girl (Anna Sophia Robb) whose life is changed by a scruffy, fun-loving pooch she names Winn-Dixie. The special bond between girl and dog works magic on her reserved dad (Jeff Daniels) and the eccentric townspeople they meet during one unforgettable summer.

FAR FROM HOME: Set against the backdrop of the Canadian wilderness, a young boy and his dog forge a special bond that neither time nor distance can break. When their boat capsizes in the turbulent waters off the Pacific Northwest, John McCormick (Bruce Davison) is rescued, but his 14-year-old son Angus (Jesse Bradford) and recently adopted stray Golden Labrador, Yellow, are washed ashore. Resourceful and courageous, Angus and his faithful dog fight to survive in the rugged wilderness. Though his terrified mother (Mimi Rogers) and father never give up hope he will be found alive, Angus begins to fear he and Yellow will not last on their own much longer. Praised for its remarkable realism, wisdom and suspense, this winning family adventure story with its irresistible four-legged star is ideal entertainment for children and their parents.

Editor's Note

BECAUSE OF WINN-DIXIE: Newcomer AnnaSophia Robb is adorable as India Opal Buloni in Wayne Wang's heartwarming family comedy, based on the bestselling novel by Kate DiCamillo. A smart, resourceful young girl, Opal thinks "people forgot how to share the joy." She's tired of moving from small town to small town with her father (Jeff Daniels), a preacher at the Open Arms Baptist Church; she just wants to find a home and stop being lonely. One night she wishes for a best friend, and that companion arrives in the form of a magical, trouble-causing dog she comes upon in a Winn-Dixie supermarket. She names the dog Winn-Dixie, and they become inseparable, making friends with many of the town's quirkiest characters, including gruff and scruffy Otis (singer-songwriter Dave Matthews), who, always accompanied by his guitar, works at the rather unique Gertrude's Pet Shop. Academy Award-winners Eva Marie Saint (as Miss Franny, the librarian) and Cicely Tyson (as the mysteriously daffy but charming Gloria Dump) provide excellent support as well. Among the musicians on the infectious pop soundtrack are Emmylou Harris, Shawn Colvin, the Beu Sisters, the Finn Brothers, and Leigh Nash, whose "I've Gotta See You Smile" will make audiences do just that. With BECAUSE OF WINN-DIXIE, Hong Kong-born Wang continues his successful transition to English-language family films following such acclaimed early Chinese works as CHAN IS MISSING, DIM SUM, and EAT A BOWL OF TEA.

FAR FROM HOME: THE ADVENTURES OF YELLOW DOG: A family adventure and classic boy-and-dog tale, FAR FROM HOME follows young Angus (Jesse Bradford), and the deep friendship he shares with his adopted Labrador, Yellow. Living an idyllic life in rural Canada, Angus finds his world turned upside down when a boating trip with his father ends in disaster. Stranded and lost in the Canadian wilderness, Angus and Yellow must get by on their wits, while Angus's frantic parents (Mimi Rogers and Bruce Davidson) search desperately for their son. The heartwarming, harrowing saga plays out against a gorgeous Canadian backdrop of mountains, forests, and secluded lakes.

Professional Reviews
San Francisco Examiner 7 of 10
[Dixie] If you're the kind of person who thinks dogs are just OK -- you're not allergic to them and you've never had a traumatic confrontation with one on the sidewalk -- you'll probably find yourself vaguely charmed by the family film Because of Winn-Dixie.

But if you're a dog person -- wow. Forget it. Bring Kleenex. You'll be a blubbering puddle within the first 10, 15 minutes or so. And several more times after that. - Christy Lemire

San Francisco Examiner 8 of 10
[Home] ...Far From Home is more low-key and subtle than most kids' adventure movies. The film relies on spare dialogue and underplayed acting, plus spectacular shots of sky, surf, rocks and animals, to provide superior children's entertainment. - David Armstrong

San Francisco Chronicle 7 of 10
[Dixie] Matthews holds his own with his experienced co-stars, and his half- talking/half-singing explanation of his criminal past is the movie's best scene. - Peter Hartlaub

Washington Post 8 of 10
[Home] ...The bonding [between Angus and Yellow] is intense, and, thanks to sturdy performances by both boy and dog, believable... A warning: This dog is so lovable, so admirable, so godlike, that parents of kids who are begging for a puppy will be hard-pressed to defend their position... Far From Home is about 80 minutes long, which does not feel long enough. - William F. Powers
