 Editor's Note
THEATRICAL RELEASE DATE: MARCH 31, 2006One of popular music's most worshipped groups, the Beastie Boys deliver a huge thank-you to their fans with this electrifying concert film. Shot at a sold-out Madison Square Garden on October 9, 2004, the film features the cinematography of 50 lucky audience members, who were selected by the Beastie Boys to videotape the show from their very personal vantage points. The result is a hyper-frenetic and incredibly visceral experience, which thrusts viewers inside the arena and allows them to truly feel what it was like to be at the show. Backing up Mike D, Ad Rock, and MCA is the virtuosic DJ Mix Master Mike, who tears through the group's biggest rap joints without skipping a beat. When they disappear for a moment and reappear as a full-fledged rock band, it's keyboardist Money Mark who adds fuel to the fire. Being fans of old school hip-hop, the Boys also pay tribute to the past, bringing out the original human beat box, Doug E. Fresh, to deliver a jaw-dropping display of mouth-made percussion. The film is edited at a breakneck pace and incorporates hilarious post-production visual tactics, and director Nathaniel Hornblower (aka Adam Yauch) keeps the energy level at full-speed, resulting in a concert film that will have audiences rapping and singing along in their seats.

Entertainment Weekly 0 of 10 "The editing, and the psychedelic tinting, perfectly captures the Beasties' relentless groove, and there are any number of funny diversions..." Reel.com 10 of 10 With Awesome, it's not surprising that they came up with such an inventive idea, but it is surprising that the actual execution is flawless. Think about it. They had to seamlessly sync together and edit more than 50 different shots for a 90-minute film, match the edits with movements in the songs, find the best shot for each second, and keep it fresh for the entire concert...The sheer effort it took to edit the film is enough to make it a must-see for even non-Beastie Boys fans. It's not the type of film to get nominated for Oscars, but, trust me, there won't be a superior technical achievement in film all year..."Awesome" isn't a big enough word for how great this movie is. - James Emanuel Shapiro The Village Voice 9 of 10 With Awesome's insistence on professional sound - only a few times do we get sonically dropped into the cavernous, thumping Garden - and cuts to pristine close-ups of things like Mixmaster Mike's admittedly sick scratch detail work, it plays like a hype victory lap rather than a boundary-smashing study of fan curiosity or pathology. One warm bit of gleeful "just-like-us"-ism catches Ben Stiller rapping along with his heroes...the concert comes off like a blast. - Laura Sinagra
