While the biographical essay and Terrell's self-serving essay are interesting and the cover art is wonderful, these 12 cuts have been heard many times in many different ways, amounting to nothing more than a bebop compilation with a groovy cover. This smells like exploitation. ~ Thom Jurek | | According to the liner essay by Tom Terrell, Jean-Michel Basquiat loved jazz. Anyone familiar with his painting already knew this. This compilation of classic bebop cuts from Fantasy's vast catalog contains 12 tracks by major artists -- Miles, Mingus, Roach, Gillespie, Parker -- and a fine cover. ~ Thom Jurek | Engineer: Eric Miller; Jack Higgins; Angel Balestier; Ray Fowler; Rudy Van Gelder | Musical Guests | | John Coltrane |
