Star of countless telenovelas, she has also had a singing career since the tender age of nine. However, it wasn't until she came in contact with A.B. Quintanilla III, better known as Selena's brother, that her musical career took off and she became a star both in South America and the Philippines. Her musical oeuvre is cumbia-based, sung in an attractive, mature-sounding vocal style, unquestionably commercial though with somewhat limited crossover potential--there are no Selena-like norteno arrangements here. Though it doesn't include her Filipino-oriented material (several of her hits were sung in Tagalog), GRANDES EXITOS is a comprehensive introduction to the music of this emerging Latin superstar. | Producer: Guillermo Gil | Engineer: Scott Canto; Alfred Figueroa; Manuel Eduardo Castro; Noe Sepulveda; Tony Mardini; Carlos Luna |
| | Artist Overview | | Born in Mexico, Thalia Sodi started her performing career before the age of 10, and she quickly went on to become a popular teen singer and soap opera actress in her native country. In 2002, Thalia began work on crossing over to a wider American audience, a transition aided by her marriage to record executive Tommy Mottola. Blending her Latin pop sensibility with a variety of styles, including R&B and hip-hop, proved to be successful. Following the release of her 2003 English-language debut, THALIA, the Mexican songstress turned her attention to a clothing line, a fragrance, and even a monthly magazine bearing her name. |
