The production budget on this one was clearly lower than what these two MCs had tasted on their previous major label releases--G-Dep's 2001 debut CHILD OF THE GHETTO and Loon's 2003 self-titled album. This is not necessarily a bad thing, though. G-Dep is a talented storyteller with a penchant for subtly intricate wordplay, and Loon's clever one-liners show a potential to overcome the Mase comparisons that dogged his career to this point. Both Harlemites are well-suited to the moody, street-level beats on this Siccness Records release, making BAD BOY proof-positive that some artists are better off going the gritty indie route than for big-budget commercial bombast.
