On this 2008 BACKYARDIGANS musical offering, the popular animated kids'-show characters present a fun set of songs that encourage play and imagination. While the entire album will delight young children, highlights include the lively, Caribbean-tinged "Almost Everything Is Boinga," which features R&B star Alicia Keys, and the jazzy "Lady in Pink," a track that boasts guest vocals by '80s pop icon Cyndi Lauper.
For three seasons now, the music of the Backyardigans has put the kid's show in a class by itself. The stories may target two- to five-year-olds, but the musical savvy and performances of the characters are a delight for children several years older as well. Resplendent in composition and consistently vivacious, the soundtrack CDs that accompany the seasons on DVD proudly bear music director (and former Lounge Lizard) Evan Lurie's trademark mastery of genres and sweeping travels through bygone decades. My two year old daughter really loves watching the Backyardigans, and this CD has all of her favorite songs on it from the shows. She sings along to all of them, and begs to listen to them over, and over... It actually gets a bit annoying as a parent to have to listen to the songs multiple times in a row... But it makes her happy! Especially on long trips in the car. LOL
