| | Beyonce's new album is the artist's first full-length solo work since her #1 multi-platinum 2003 solo debut, Dangerously In Love, which earned her five 2004 Grammy Awards including Best Contemporary R&B Album and Best R&B Song ("Crazy In Love"). With her five-in-one-year Grammy win, Beyoncé tied the record for the most Grammys to be won in a single year by a female artist. Dangerously In Love and "Crazy In Love" made chart history when both album and single simultaneously hit #1 in the U.S. and the UK (which hadn't happened since 1983).
The pop music superstar's sophomore studio album premieres all new music produced, written and arranged by Beyonce.
B'Day" will be released worldwide on September 4, Beyonce's 25th birthday.
"B’Day never cools down, and sweaty up-tempo numbers prove the best platform for Beyoncé’s rapperly phrasing and pipe-flaunting fireballs." Nevertheless, the singer and her crack team of producers and collaborators (R&B's finest, including the Neptunes, Swizz Beats, and Rich Harrison) have come up with a collection that's at least equal to her previous triumphs, and that shows off an almost angry intensity only hinted at on earlier releases. | | The club hit "Deja Vu," with an extended rap from boyfriend/producer Jay-Z, boasts an addictive bass line that contrasts dramatically with Beyonce's emotive upper register. The haunting "Ring the Alarm" is a multilayered melodrama built around a dizzying minor-key hook that relies on Beyonce's vocal dexterity and newfound fire. Despite the appealing bravado of most of the tracks on B-DAY, the most memorable song is the beautiful lovelorn ballad "Irreplaceable," on which a wounded Beyonce protesteth too much about an errant lover's dispensability. Her nuanced and soul-deep performance suggests the tearful hurt lying at the center of all that anger. | Producer: Rich Harrison; Walter Milsap; S. | | Bio | | Beyonce Knowles rose to fame as a member of the R&B ensemble Destiny's Child. With Beyonce's father as a manager, the group garnered massive success with their 2001 album, Survivor. Soon Beyonce, sporting a sexy yet girl-next-door image, broke out on her own, with major roles in the Austin Powers movie Goldmember and a hip-hop version of the opera Carmen. With the release of her more eclectic solo debut, Dangerously In Love, Beyonce became a full-fledged international superstar and role model.
