4 of 5 Axion 9" LCD Digital Photo Frame Sunday, November 16, 2008
Juan from colorado

I've had it for a few weeks and have not had any problems what so ever . It has been running continuosly for all this time with the exeption of a power outage, where I had to press play to restart it . The AXN-9905 works fine for me. I use it with a usb memory stick 4 gb and have pictures of pretty high resolution displayed , they are still a bit grany but does the trick, my wife is very happy with it and you'll find grandma in front of it for long periods of time. I've not tried it with an mp3 file,it's just annoying to always hear the same songs playing. Cons: limited internal memory ,usb memory stick or sd cards are the best option.

4 of 5 Good Product, Good Value Tuesday, September 16, 2008
Cogs from Chicago
Unlike other reviewers, I haven't had any problems with my unit and I've had it for over a year. I'm sure their perceptions are correct, but I wonder if I'm just using the unit differently. The AXN-9905 works fine for me. I put an old SD card from my camera in the back and swap it out when I want new pictures in the unit, the push PLAY. It hasn't ever hung up. It shuts down during Power outages, but I just hit PLAY and it restarts. I've never tried it with an .mp3 file, because it's annoying to always hear it playing. Cons: Not much memory internally, so the SD card is the way to go. Also makes it easier for Grandma and Grandpa to get updates (plug and play).

1 of 5 Bad product Friday, August 22, 2008
nsrk from dallas, tx
I bought this photo frame only to get disappointed. The frame hangs after 30 mins and only way to get it up again is to power-off and power-up again. Really annoying. Spend few more bucks and go for other brands.

2 of 5 My review Tuesday, August 19, 2008
gopalkannappan from Durham, NC
Pros: Easy setup, ready to use, yet another digital photo frame in market. Mail in rebate processed for me. Cons: Though it claims about 9", its not actually 9", the product I had doesnt play after 1st mp3 song when played along with photo. I would not recommend this product to anyone, i was attracted by buy.com credit card offer and the mail in rebate, dont just see the picture and believe its actually 9". With the latest cameras the images are getting squeezed and doesnt display properly in this frame. No way you can trace the mail in rebate status.

1 of 5 Waste of time and Money Tuesday, July 08, 2008
Cris from Houston, Tx
The resolution is bad. They do not send the mail in rebate. The remote has limited options. The clock always resets when you switch it off. The pictures you put do not use full size of the screen. It is equivalent to a 5inch screen. Not worth 104$ for a 5 inch screen

Only worked for about 4 weeks, then it flickered and went out. There is only a 14 day return policy. And to make matters worse they have not sent my rebate either. DO NOT BUY!

1 of 5 Watch out...widescreen version! Friday, July 04, 2008
A Customer from colorado springs, co
Unfortuntaly the fact that this is widescreen is pretty much hidden, which is probably done on purpose as I would never have bought this had I know that. Widescreen fakes 9 inches!

3 of 5 Not as good as expected Tuesday, June 24, 2008
Bo from Michigan
I bought this 3 months ago, and got the rebate recently. The image quality is not so good. The resolution is only 800x480, so you can't see the details in a picture. The remote also doesn't work very well. You have to point it exactly at the infrared receiver in the frame body to make it work. I regret that I didn't pay 30 bucks more and get one from Costco, which looks much better in image quality.

4 of 5 It's acceptable (for the price after rebate) Friday, June 20, 2008
mingluy from New York
This is the 1st time I purchase a digital frame. It's not hard to use but, the frame size is kind of Odd (not standard photo size). After viewing the demo video & reviews I decided to give it a try. I did few tests on the photo size. I found 800x450 is working well. It seems like it cannot handle higher resolution files. Any photo size larger than 800x450 pixels .... seems to have issue loading. I tried few different resolutions(size) it had hard time loading the images... it just simply skipped the larger size files & only show up the 800x450 image size I insert in it. The quality of the image is not hi-resolution but, is acceptable. I got an SD card & it worked fine. If you are looking for hi-resolution quality then this may not be your best choice. In addition, it maybe a little trouble if you want to have FULL screen image. You need to use photo editing software to crop & cut the images in order to fit in.

1 of 5 Don't waste your money!! Monday, June 16, 2008
Jodessa Lee from East Brunswick, New Jersey
This has poor quality pictures and is not worth the discounted price. Spend a few extra dollars on a Kodak, Smartparts or MATSUNICHI. When researching, make sure there is an internal memory and that is plays music in a few different formats. The shuffle feature is good too. Pass this one up! I have purchased several as gifts and sent this one back after looking at it next to my Smartparts one.

1 of 5 Defective piece Sunday, June 08, 2008
A Customer from Houston , TX
I bought this since i thought it will be a great value for the price I am paying. 9" seemed to be quiet good and I bought this to gift to my friend on her wedding anniversary. But after delayed shipment from FEDEX, as soon as i plugged it in it booted and withing few seconds the screen flickered and all of it disappeared. After trying hard for few hours I finally gave up and had to return this to buy.com. Do not go for this!!!

3 of 5 Up close, big pixels, slight flickering. Monday, June 02, 2008
A Customer from San Diego, CA
Within 3 feet away, it looks awful. I wouldn't use it in a small office cubicle where you and others would be looking at it up close. Otherwise, from a distance, it's actually very bright and reasonable. Need to play with the picture adjustments before using.

2 of 5 Bad buy Saturday, May 31, 2008
A Customer from Clifton, NJ
Dont go on lesser price. Although it is loaded with features but hangs pretty often. Many a times it will complain about no memory card although memory card is inside the slot. So I will say this is not a good buy and if u didnt already buy one, pls refrain from buying this.

3 of 5 poor quality, don't buy this Sunday, April 20, 2008
A Customer from MI
It's not as good as I expected. It has TOO MANY problems. First, right after I got it out of the box, I can see a small scratch on the edge of frame. Second, the resolution is weirdly 800X480, which means that I have to manually change my photoes to that resolution to fit in the whole screen. Otherwise, there are two black strips on each side of the screen. Finally, the image is also of poor quality. you cannot see some details in a photo, such as, faces, eyes, etc. What's more, when I use the remote to power on the frame, the frame will be turned on first, however, it will be turned off by itself after a second. AND, you have to exactly point the remote to the right corner of the frame; otherwise, the frame has no reponse to the remote. =============> I regret that I got this one. With this price, I could get a philips digital frame. I guess philips would be better than this one.

1 of 5 Overall Not a Good Product Saturday, April 19, 2008
Raj from Bellevue, WA
I found multiple issues with this product 1. I have put in 250 pictures in USB drive and after certain pictures of display it just stops at one picture. I have tried this multiple times and was never able to get this to work. 2. After shutting down frame with remote and starting it back , it always hangs at "loading ....." 3. Rotation of pictures does now work properly. When I set it to rotate (for just 10 pictures), it will display those pictures and then change to digital clock and will never go back to pictures again. Over all experienece with the first digital frame is really bad. There seems to be firmware upgrade that is required to get it to work.

Pavan from Ashburn, Virginia
Pros: - For the price I got which is fifty bucks after all discounts and Google checkout discount I had it was worth - The issue Music+Photos doesn't work is not a big deal as we don't do that many times and I felt it was OK. Cons: - Music+Photos doesnt work(plays only photos) - If USB is plugged before turning on it hangs

5 of 5 Hi-Resolution Monday, March 31, 2008
Bill Gann from Yukon, Ok
I guess people have a different prospective of the term LCD with Hi-Resolution. I personally would think that you would have a crisp, clear picture and that’s just not the case. The photos seem to be in small squares. There could be a better set of instructions also; it just kind of leaves you out there without the tools to do anything. Also I haven’t been able to find a place to check on the status of the rebate. That being said I would rate it at about a 3.

5 of 5 Super Deal Monday, March 31, 2008
A Customer from Lake Worth, FL
I bought an earlier model with a simulated dark wood frame in the same size by Axion a year ago and it is still running great. This new model has more features (clock, alarm, calendar, & multi card reader) and the clear plastic and white frame is very neutral for nearly any room. Downsides include the widescreen view so typical digital photos have a black bar on the left and right sides. You could rezise the photo in a photo editor but for me the 9" screen gives me plenty of viewing area. You have to rotate the portait photos (which is easy to do) but it doesn't remember this when you shut off the frame. I just rotated the photo in a photo editor and saved it to the flash card (for use on the frame only) - problem solved. Also the screen darkens when viewing from a lower angle, but it's not horrible. I'm looking at a photo of my sons right now and the darker background is hard to see (from the lower veiwing point) but it actually makes my sons stand out and look good. A well lit or outdoor photo looks fine from any angle. The screen is bright and large so even if the photos don't fill the screen they are still easy to see. The remote works great. The price is awesome. I use my older model everyday at work on my desk and it looks as good after a year as the day I got it. I get many compliments, along with "I need one of those for my desk". The fact that instead of having a few photos at your desk you can have hundreds is great. It's also easy to carry as a portable slide show to share with friends and family. Great photo frame and the price is super.

3 of 5 Very average performance. Tuesday, March 11, 2008
J&B from Houston, TX
I have it for couple month now. It is fear but not a great deal. Quality of picture far from good, it granule, colors are not correct. Out of box you will require to adjust contrast and brightness to get acceptable image. It does not says what native resolution it supports to pre-convert pictures accordingly. I do not understand why it "wide screen" Digital cameras do not produce pictures in this size. So there are always unused area on the side of the picture. Overall I am considering it as my educational purchase. I will look for something better in future.

2 of 5 Not worth what they are selling it for Tuesday, January 22, 2008
Brandon from Jackson, MI
I, too, got it as a Christmas present. My folks are not too tech savvy so they didn't notice the poor quality, but I sure did, after having frames from Pantech and others that are much, much better. The pictures just don't look crisp or bright, and if you don't see them from a certain angle (basically, straight on) then parts of them disappear. There are no instructions on the native resolution that the pics need to be in, so you have to guess. I guessed 800X600, which is pretty standard, but it didn't quite work out at that one. I liked the clock and calendar features but as others have indicated, you can only set some of those with the remote. RIght now it's at $120 on Buy.com. This frame is worth about 1/2 of that price. And if you're really into your digital photos, it's not worth it at all.

5 of 5 FavorIte gift for one that EVERYONE can enjoy! Tuesday, January 15, 2008
bridgetm1962 from Roswell, NM
This was an item my husband was hoping to receive. When I found exactly what he was looking for at Buy.com, I was thrilled. The extra bonus of a rebate on an already good price made this my best deal on the gift my husband wanted. When he received it he was really surprised and ecstatic. When he set it up we ALL were pleased. Thank you.

1 of 5 Disappointed Sunday, January 13, 2008
Paul from Milwaukee,WI
I couldn't be more disappointed. The picture is grainy, the remote doesn't set the clock or month, you can not set anything without the remote, the instructions are terrible, the picture slide show stops on a picture and then pixels it. Thank God I bought a lot of other things from Buy.com or I would never be back. In my opinion, this should not be sold.

3 of 5 16:9 format, but no video? Tuesday, January 08, 2008
A Customer from San Diego, CA
Photos are 4:3, so this really does not work out to a full 9" display. The 16:9 format might be tolerable if it could actually play movies, but it can't. The user manual is a joke, but the menus and options are reasonably easier to figure out if you're persistent. The alarm clock feature is a nice bonus. Large JPEGs do not look good on this unit - it does not scale them very well. Native resolution (640x480) JPEGs look even worse. So far, the best resolution so far appears to be 1280x1024. Fortunately, IrfanView (freeware) has a nice batch-resizing feature. The unit is barely worth the sub-$100 price and will tide me over until I find 4:3 unit with 800x600 that is 10-12" for a reasonable price.

4 of 5 Not bad for the price Monday, January 07, 2008
Mike from Arvada, CO
I bought this for a gift to my girlfriend. Overall it's not a bad display, but then I got it before Xmas and after the rebate it was only $85.00. It's worth about that. Problems: They don't tell you what the display properties are in the so-called manual, so normal photos will be displayed with black banding on both sides. I emailed Axion's customer support to ask about this. Two weeks later they replied to my email and stated you should format your photos to 1600x900. Since this isn't a standard 4:3 ratio, it will stretch your photos lengthwise. The other problem I found was that when you choose to play the photos with music, you have no control over the order of mp3s, so it will always play in the order they're found on the memory stick. The sound quality is about what you'd expect from tiny speakers mounted to plastic. It's not a horrible product. The resolution isn't bad, the frame is nice looking and the remote control is usable. It just seems photo displays are still coming of age and this one could use a few more revisions.

5 of 5 Excellent value digital frame Saturday, December 29, 2007
Richard Capewell from Seattle, WA
Bought this for my wife for her Birthday just before Xmas and she bought me (unknown to myself) one that's more than twice the price for Xmas. So I had the chance to compare. Conclusion is that it's not worth paying twice the price, you don't get any better quality. My wife is delighted with the Axion display. You should resize the pics to optimise them for the frame resolution though (640x480) since I think the problems the other users have had is that the frame probably doesn't do such a good job at downsizing. Microsoft have a utility to right click a group of files in explorer and it quickly duplicates them at the appropriate resolution. Just google for "Microsoft Powertoys" and download the image resizer from the webpage. Advantage of doing this is the files drop from around 2mB in size to more like 80kB so you can fit tons of pics on a small cheap SD card. Only downside for me is the widescreen aspect ratio of the frame. Natural aspect ratio of photographs is narrower than widescreen, so there's always unused area at the sides of the pictures. Would be OK if it played video files, but it doesn't. Not a big gripe considering how cheap the frame is though. Don't forget, you need a memory card! The frame has no memory built in.

4 of 5 I LIKE it! It's definitely a Christmas gift! Wednesday, December 26, 2007
TechBee from NY, NY
I would buy 2 other units for gift-giving to my friends. I love the first one i bought. The screen is sharp and bright. I shot the pictures in 16:9 mode and it fits right on the widescreen. The clock and alarm feature works fine. When I am not displaying the images, i switched to clock mode. Overall i give it a 90 out of 100!

2 of 5 Disappointed with this purchase. Monday, December 24, 2007
cgrams from Casper, WY
I am in the process of filling in an RMA to return the picture frame to Axion for repair. It works for a couple of hours and then the slide presentation stops and won't go on to the next picture. If you try to restart the slide show it says it cannot find the picture file. If you turn it off for a short time and turn it back on it works again for a couple of hours. I too was disappointed with the "grainy" picture display. I would not purchase again or recommend this product.

5 of 5 FAIR AT BEST Friday, December 21, 2007
wmjbutler from Placitas, NM
Grainy picture; No instruction manual - I still don't know how to perform some functions; Only horizontal format photos display well because the picture is wide, and not tall; I just loaded a USB Jump Drive and plugged it in, then selected the photo mode, and it gave me a slide show of my photos, so that part was easy

5 of 5 Great Gift Idea Friday, December 21, 2007
Steve from Aliso Viejo, CA
I was hesitant at first with all the options available. But I choose this product for an X-max gift and was not disappointed. It is very simply to setup and use. I loaded a 2GB SD (purchased separately) with xmas pictures and music. Inserted it and bingo it worked like a champ. The music playing as the pictures scroll through was awesome. I know this will be the gift of the year.

3 of 5 An ok picture frame Thursday, December 20, 2007
A Customer from Granger, IN
The picture quality is I would say just around average. You can't connect the frame directly to your computer which makes loading the picture a little bit of a hazzle. I don't think I'd buy it again but you get a decent value for your money.

1 of 5 Cheap.... in price as well as quality Thursday, December 20, 2007
A Customer from Syracuse, NY
Good price after rebate for a 9-inch screen. Now let me describe all the cons: 1. It is a very elongated screen (instead of squarish) which means it is not really that large (a 9-inch 4:3 screen is larger than a 9-inch 16:9 screen). Pictures look grainy and stretched, not hi-res at all (even with my 10MP JPGs). On-unit buttons do not allow you to set date or perform some functions, hence you can't afford to lose your remote control. Date is stuck to the same day you set it, and the time shifts by 4 hours each day (the manufacturer assumes there are 20 or 28 hours a day), so the clock and calendar functions are useless.

1 of 5 wouldn't buy it again Thursday, December 20, 2007
A Customer from Chi, IL
Pictures look very grainy, in fact it makes some pictures look just horrid. From a distance (like across the room), they are okay, but if you are within 5 feet, you can see there just isn't something right about the screen. The menu screen is corny, but user friendly in all fairness. Overall construction is very cheap, the black rim around the LCD is snap in and feels/looks like it isn't snapped in all the way (but it is). The one thing that really bugged me about this was in the product description it says "hi-resolution" when the screen is nowhere near that. I got this for my mom, I think she will like it, only because she is not too tech savvy and really won't care about the resolution details. If this was for myself, I would have probably tried to return it.

5 of 5 Extra width (-), Music (+) Wednesday, December 12, 2007
TechBurnout from MIA via NYC
The extra 2" on this frame doesn't matter as long as the resolution is not super-excellent for the ever-lowering price(includes rebate). (e.g. compare the lowly COBY 7" — unless smaller screens depict denser pixels? hmm... must read up on that) And although digi cams are plentiful, how many pix are wide-screen? Still a good buy for the music and time-keeping features; though a perfect MP3 playback would let you select which tune plays with which pix (again, mebbe I should read up on the manual?...)

4 of 5 Works well for the price Tuesday, December 11, 2007
Brad from Leesburg, VA
I haven't used the MP3 feature but the digital images appear bright and clear. I was able to take my SD card directly from my camera and place it inside the frame to view the images. It takes time to navigate the menu using the buttons on the back of the frame. Overall, with the rebate, it's worth the price.

4 of 5 Nice frame for a decent price Monday, December 10, 2007
Arin from Minneapolis, MN
Like other reviewers, got this on sale, and it was worth the price paid for the available features. I have tried both USB, SD cards with photos and MP3. Although the pictures displayed without any problems, the frame has a "Matte" look, which means from certain angles, you cannot view the pictures, and pictures look dull in general. Has nice additional features, including clock, and calendar.

5 of 5 Nice... Sunday, December 09, 2007
CheeHuei from Houghton, MI
I bought it with a rebate. It is a good price for 9'' LCD. The resolution is 640X480, which is good enough for normal use. It comes with calender, clock, alarm, mp3 playback features. There is also a headphone output if you don't like its built-in speaker. In fact, there is a volume control at the remote to control the built-in speaker. No problem with large size of jpeg image. It shrinks to fix in the frame automatically. It is not the best resolution LCD photo frame in the market, but the price after rebate is unbeatable. I would consider to buy 7'' with lower price from Axion for a gift.

4 of 5 Nice for the price Monday, December 03, 2007
Pat from Lake Hopatcong, NJ
Got this on sale and with a rebate. Looks good, bright, accurate colors. Small, cheap speaker, but that's to be expected in something this size. Plays music and displays photos at the same time, with the options to display just the photos or only play music. It had no problems with my 6MP JPEG files from a Sony DSC-T9. Could read from 2G MS Pro Duo and 1G SD cards with no problems. No volume control, but it's not that loud, and since you program the music yourself, you can always adjust the gain in the mp3 files.
