5 of 5 Pleasant Surprise!!! Wednesday, May 24, 2006 Ray B. from San Diego, CA
Wow, I must admit that I was not sure about Averatec (I've heard good reviews of this brand in the past and some poor reviews by users recently on other websites mainly about their service) but I have been pleasantly surprised!
I called Averatec's customer service line to test their service (before I bought this notebook), and they were very helpful, knowledgeable about the products and offered to have the unit serviced immediately (I told them that I owned one already and I had a problem with the battery).
My cousin bought a AV2150-EH1 a while back and he says that it is a great laptop for him. He had an issue with a defective battery, but Averatec simply replaced it with a new one.
After buying the AV4155-EH1, I compared it to my friend's HP DV1600, and it was just as good - actually my Averatec was lighter (same screen size) and opened programs faster than the HP. So far so good with my 4155, I would recomment it to anyone. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good stuff Sunday, May 07, 2006 A Customer from Anchorage, AK
I've had this system for 4 months now and have no reportable problems. The computer is light and the screen is great. Performance is good and it seems to have an adequate wireless reach. For its downfalls: It does run hot and the fan is not adequate. The user manual, which is only on-screen, is terribly lacking information. The card reader won't read my type of card. The battery life is very short. Overall though it is a good system for the money. Was this review helpful?

I have owned this model for about 6 months now, and it has been nothing but problems. After about 2 months, the computer would randomly freeze and bright vertical lines would show up on the screen. It did this probably once every week. Slowly, the problem got worse, to the point where it would freeze at least once a day. (Note: I have years of experience working with computers as a hardware guy for several companies...never have I had this many problems with a computer).
When I contacted the company, they said I could ship it back to them at my expense, at it would take 3 to 4 weeks to get it back. Considering companies like Dell or Toshiba can fix their computers in under a week, this is wayyyy too long.
Overall, the computer feels a little flimsy. It is light, and the screen is amazing, but if it doesn't work then none of that matters.
