5 of 5 I'm reliving my youth Friday, May 02, 2008 billgarrison@cox.net from Mesa, Arizona
The turntable works perfectly with my windows XP. Installation and setup was extremely easy. I was recording in less than 30 minutes out of the box. The stylus is so sensitive it even recorded the birds chirping in my back yard and the sounds of the TV in the other room (I later found out). I haven't tried all the features such as cleaning up of popping sounds on my records but if it's anything close to the easy setup, I'm sure I'll be pleased. Not only am I having so much fun recording my albums (so far I've recorded 30 of 175) but this also gives me an opportunity to listen to all of my old albums from the 70's and 80's and remember when life was fun and relive in my mind the old times. 5 of 5 does everything a turntable suppose to do Friday, January 25, 2008 Danny from staten island
very satisfied with purchase sleek style and ease of use. I have many old lps 33 and 45s-they sound excellent. I love the auto start and stop feature. Enjoy my turntable so much that I still have not connected it to my pc. just enjoying the music. Overall good value for the buck! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Value Monday, January 21, 2008 A Customer from Cuyahoga Falls, OH
For a cheap price you get to listen to your old records and convert them to mp3's. Simple setup, and the sound is okay. One of the two software packages doesn't work with Vista. But you only need one to get the job done anyway. You need to be some what computer literate to use the conversion application.
For $100 bucks it's a deal. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Audio Technica USB turntable Friday, January 11, 2008 Tom Wargin from Milwaukee, WI
Price was great - delivery was prompt - Setup was easy - copying is simple. I used the included USB cable and connected it to my computer and followed the instructions in the manual to configure the audio and it seems to work fine. I am in the process of copying some of my best old vinyl to digital. My only complaint so far has been with the included Cakewalk Pyro software, which sometimes hiccups for me and I have to re-copy part or all of an album. I have not tried the included Audacity software since I thought it was primarily for the Mac and I run Windows XP pro on a desktop. I plan on trying that software next. Also, I need to find out if there is a faster method to transfer the music since you have to let the vinyl album play at normal speed while copying. If you plan on copying a large number of albums, this could take a long time. Was this review helpful?

I recently purchased this item (Audio Technica AT-LP2DUSB LP-to-Digital Recording System with USB) based on price at buy.com and on quality as determined by other reviews. I am pleased with the product. I have transcribed several (only a few) of my old LPs (33-1/3 RPM records) to digital data, using one or the other of two different software products on my Mac Powerbook G4 (OS 10.4): Audacity and Final Vinyl. Both products came as free software, one with Powerbook purchase, the other with purchase of the Audio Technica Recording System.
Buy.com provided a quality product promply and as promised (in proper condition). Setup was easy and quick. I was pleased to learn that the needle and transducer is the professional quality I expect (elliptical point, 0.2 x 0.7). See the comprehensive review by Juniorverse from Coloradofor lots more details (no need to repeat them here). I use the USB input via the cable that came with the unit. The plastic dust cover hinges up and stays up, to insert and remove LPs.
After cleaning an LP, I place it in position, put the dust cover down, and push one button. The arm lifts, traverses to the start of the LP, and lowers itself slowly, then begins playing. The right way. When done (at end of LP), the arm lifts and returns itself to the rest position and the turntable shuts off. Just right.
A big advantage of digital recording: using the Audacity software, I can remove annoying pops and clicks without harming the music quality. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Turntable with software issues Wednesday, December 05, 2007 A Customer from Colorado Springs, CO
The Audio Technica AT-LP2DUSB is a welcome addition to our audio system for just playing LP records. However, one of the main reasons we purchased this equipment was to save the old records to CDs. The software is not exactly user friendly. Yes, it does get the job done but is clumsy and has a significant learning curve.
The item was delivered as promised and in good working order. I strongly recommend buy.com but am somewhat reluctant to recommend this particular item based on the questionable performance of the software. Was this review helpful?

Finally, an electronic product that works exactly like the manufacturer's claim. Assembled easily, WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS were clear, concise and SIMPLE. The software that was included works great also! I will recommend this MACINTOSH compatable item to anyone wanting to convert 33 1/3 RPM records to MP3 or WAV formats. Was this review helpful?

I've never even owned any LPs before, but I recently got a real craving for some mixes that only appeared on DJ-only LPs. So I purchased a few, along with this turntable so I can rip them into MP3s.
Everything arrived on the same day, so I was like a kid in a candy store. All I can say is HOORAY!
There are two versions of this Audio-Technica turntable... one has USB capabilities, and the other (which is a bit less expensive) does not. However, even with the USB output, there are also good old RCA outputs on this turntable. The turntable also comes with two RCA to stereo 3.5mm mini-plug adapters: one male adapter (for connecting to stereos, powered speakers, or a mixer with 3.5mm mini jack inputs), and one female adapter (for connecting to amplified speakers or other devices with a mini-plug). Basically, you can connect this turntable to almost anything without having to go out and purchase additional cables or adapters.
The unit has three buttons on the front: start, stop, and up/down. I'm sure you can guess what each of these does. This is an automatic turntable, so the arm is controlled by the buttons (no need to manually lift and place the needle back down).
The turntable also has a pre-amp switch, for either "line" or "phono" output. This way, you can connect it to most devices, whether they have an amplifier or not.
The setup of the turntable itself is pretty easy. Follow the instructions to easily place the platter onto the turntable and pull the drive belt onto the motor spindle (illustrations are included).
I elected to connect the RCA cables to one of the adapters, and connected that to the "line-in" mini-jack input on my digital sound card. Technically, I didn't need to purchase this more-expensive USB version of the turntable since I am not using the USB output, but that's beside the point :)
There are two CDs included in the package: one for Cakewalk Pyro 2004/2005 (commercial software), and one for Audacity (open source software). Cakewalk Pyro is NOT compatible with Windows Vista, so I installed Audacity (check their website for newer versions if desired).
After installing Audacity, I selected my input source ("line-in"), put the first LP on, and heard exactly what I was hoping to hear... high quality music and sound. So I restarted the LP, hit the record button in Audacity, and waiting for the song to finish. Then I hit the "stop" button in Audacity to stop recording, quickly and easily trimmed a bit of the dead space before and after the song, and exported it to a high-quality, high bit-rate MP3.
For the money, I couldn't have asked for anything better. Everything sounds crystal clear, and couldn't be easier. I highly recommend this product. If you have a line-in jack on your sound card (which most do), and would like to use that, save yourself a few bucks and go with the model that doesn't have the USB output. I'm not sure if the other model comes with a CD for Audacity (maybe only Pyro), but Audacity is an open-source free download on the web anyway. Either way, you won't be disappointed.
Happy ripping! :) Was this review helpful?
