Bill Mallonee (Lead singer/songwriter of VoL) has been working for years. His latest album seems to fall under the label of Americana, but perhaps that was to be expected with Buddy Millar (works with Emmilou Harris) producing the album. Bill's songs on this album are top notch. "Resplendant" (A song about the dustbowl farmers) has such a fantastic haunting melody to it, such that, if you are anything like me you will be unable to think of very much else for quite a while. Throughout the album Bill's rock influences shine, but I think the tracks that really stand out are those which take the quieter more reflective road. "Nothing like a Train" being an obvious example. And it does have to be said that "Solar System" is a fantastic closing track. The second disk has a rougher edge to it, which suggests very good things are to come for this band.
