    5 of 5 My monitor goes into sleep mode with HDMI Monday, August 24, 2009

    My HDMI connection is on my motherboard. First I get the familiar floating window, then it goes into sleep mode. For those whose monitor does not enter "sleep" mode, I suspect this is a function of their motherboard or video card.

    I am very happy with the horizontal and vertical viewing angles. From reding reviews of other low priced LCDs I had the impression that I had to sit perpendicular to it. That is not the case. It is clear even when I sit on the side. Off-center 80 degrees. Amazing.

    When I received the Buy dot com special deals e-mail which listed this 24 inch 1080P monitor for a very low price, I knew it was time to replace my aging 19 inch CRT. I'm connected using the VGA port on my desktop so the "sleep" issue others have had with HDMI don't affect me. When this monitor is set on 1920/1080 the output is nothing short of spectacular, perfect for online movies and for modifying pictures. Want a portable Blu Ray system? Connect a Blu Ray HDMI DVD player into this monitor and it will display the same excellent picture you get from a much more expensive 1080P TV at a fraction of the cost. Stereo speakers are built in. The monitor weighs only 16 pounds so it's easily relocated. Take your new Blu Ray setup with you on vacation!! The only feature of this excellent monitor that should be changed would be the small hard-to-see OSD control buttons on the bottom right of the display. They need to be farther apart and indentified with labels that the user can actually read. I didn't need this monitor, my old one was working fine. However, this quality (Full 1080P) and this size (24 inch) at this price were impossible to pass up. DVI, VGA, a stereo cable and the power cord are included.

    I bought this monitor to replace my 19" Samsung 932BW. Talk about a nice change. With a 20000:1 contrast ratio at 1080p over an HDMI cable, this monitor brings out details that I didn't even notice on my other monitor. I gave ease of use a 4 out of 5, for the same reason the other reviewer did: You have to power the monitor down when connected via HDMI, (It doesn't automatically enter sleep mode). I didn't have any wobbling, and my stand is pretty sturdy. No problems with backlight bleeding either. My only issue so far is that The Sims 2's resolution settings top out at 1440 x 900, and this monitor can do 1920 x 1080. My other games run great on it, at the full 1920 x 1080, with no problems. For the price of what the big box stores charge for a smaller monitor with a crappy 3000:1 or less contrast ratio (and no HDMI), I got this 24" beauty.

    Pros: Cheap 24" Monitor, Great screen for TN panel, HDMI/DVI/VGA inputs, SPDIF out, Decent speakers for integrated, beats speakers on my XPS M1530, No dead pixels for me, Native 1920x1080 (1080p) resolution for Xbox 360. Cons: Biggest issue is monitor doesn't sleep in HDMI mode. It will display blue screen, you have to turn it off manually, Stand isn't great, kinda woobles, Some backlight bleeding, not too much, OSD menu system is painful to use, No height adjustment. Make sure to adjust monitor mode to standard and calibrate the display.
