4 of 5 Value and convenient Saturday, February 16, 2008 A Customer from Media, PA
It is fine for light use and for travelers.
One thing is that the wireless connection does not connect with my window wireless network. I am not sure it is the configuration issues or a hardwire issue of Eee. I have several other wireless devices and I have no problem of connecting them to my wireless network. Was this review helpful?

This is an incredible compact device. The Linux operating system is set up in a graphical desktop similar to Windows. Network connection to Windows machines works well for the most part. I bought an 8 GB SDHC card for extra storage (the 4 GB of flash memory that comes in the computer leaves only a bit more than a GB for the user). I transfer files, such as Divx movies, from my Windows PC via a card-reader directly to the memory card. The EeePC makes a good portable video device. The only problem I had with this is that initially the EeePC said permissions were not set high enough to allow it to access the SD card. I fixed this by going to the command line interface (ctrl-alt-t) and entering "sudo -i" then "mkdir /media". The card was then accessible without problem. I noticed this also fixed an occasional problem I had seeing networked computers in Filemanager (probably by changing my login status to superuser).
In short, this is a very convenient computer for travel that I would buy again. If a version came out with a slightly larger screen (say 9 inches), I would prefer that. Was this review helpful?

What a great little machine. I only gave is a 4 for value cause it is kinda expensive and a 4 for ease of use cause I am not a computer geek and it took quite a while to get the router up and the computer up and going. It is a lot of fun and I just love it. We live in the boonies and no WIFI is very close but we have played on it so much since christmas its better than the new puppy and it doesnt bite. Buy it its great... Enjoy Was this review helpful?

I have had my little ASUS "ToyTop" for about a month. I throw it into my suitcase between my shirts when traveling and have a way to get my emails when I get to the hotel, motel, or McDonalds or any WIFI free place. It beats carrying around my Samsonite luggage case with a regular sized laptop in it.
I can leave my Palm Pilot home and still have friends addresses available instantly. Boots up fast like my old COCO did. A solid state HD and an OS that actually works smoothly is fantastic. Longer battery life is always what we want more of. it too will come in later models. Meanwhile, I'm having a ball using it and getting positive comments everywhere I go. Thanks, ASUS. I have this in black and I absolutely am crazy about it. Does everything it needs to do, starts up and shuts down very very quickly. Connected wirelessly to the internet out of the box and faster than my VAIO connects. Camera also worked out of the box. With each use, I become more accustomed to the bright and clear though small display and the small keyboard. I have no problem using it. I bought an 8GB SDHC card and 2.5" external hard drive (to take my files with me when traveling). There is nothing else I need. This little PC has everything. I even found the perfect "computer" bag for it. It actually came with the 7" digital photo frame/dvd player I bought last year. The bag seems to have been made for the EeePC and can accomodate the PC very securely and all it's accessories very easily and costs under $25. I can't ask for anything more. I don't need anything more. I'm even considering buying one in white to give as a gift if I can part with it. Was this review helpful?

I have had one of these for 2 months, and find it a great on the go internet device and even a laptop-killer. At 2 pounds I take it everywhere, and since it boots in 15 seconds, and is fast, I am computing while others sit and wait. I like that it has no internal hard drive or optical drive: those are now "legacy" moving parts that I dont need. I use SD cards for everything, so If I had one suggestion, it would be to add a second SD slot. But - I can use one of the USB slots for an external hard drive if I need it. In summary - this is one device that does it all for me: replaces my ipod, laptop, desktop, videocam, DVD player, internet device, etc. Its not a toy, but a real PC. The built in Linux is optimized so everything just works. Highly recommended. Was this review helpful?
