3 of 5 great ultra portable but short battery life Saturday, October 18, 2008 Susiel from Sugar Land Texas
I was an early adapter of this unit. I found for a great price at the time.
While it does internet well and can be used in many ways given the flash drive. I found the battery life to have problems.
When the battery worked it was about 1 1/2 hour. The battery drained even when unit was not plugged in.
Within 6 months the battery part did not work at all. Within also 6 months the wi fi started having troubles finding the wi fi connection.
At this point i can use it plugged in and plugged into a cable but that more or less defeats the purpose of ultra portable.
If you do your homework understand what this item is and what it is not. While it is a great price for an internet device. If you understand it is limited on funtions, then go for it.
If you want more choices options ability to do upgrades then go with 4 gig or more model.
The idea of the internet and surfing on a phone did not suit me due to screen size of most of the cell phones out there. This was a good choice for just the internet and a few other applications.
The keyboard is small cramped may not work well for those with large hands or arthritic
Flip side very durable Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Asus 2g eee Pc Monday, October 13, 2008 A Customer from Memphis, Tennessee
This machine is very nice to use while on the move. I use it when traveling and have no problem finding Hot Spots. It is great to have a non bulky laptop that has a word processor and spreadsheet. The keyboard is in a tight format but with a little practice you will be moving along with no problem.. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 This little baby packs a solid punch Monday, June 09, 2008 A Customer from Los Angeles CA
I'm not usually an early adopter, but other reviews of the Asus Eee PC convinced me that I would love one. I do. A lot. I love being able to carry around a fully-functional PC in a small duffel bag. I bought an 8gb SD card to add extra work space and was able to use the program nLite to install Windows XP with SP 3, OpenOffice, and some other tools I use. There's still 200mb of space on the drive and I've pointed all the temporary files to the SD card to reduce wear on the internal flash drive. It boots up faster than my 2ghz desktop system and even though the keyboard is a little small with a couple odd layout quirks I was typing at a fairly good speed in no time. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Love it! Wednesday, June 04, 2008 A Customer from Los Angeles, CA
It's awesome. Yes, the keyboard is small and I have made errors in typing - just needs a little practice. Yes, the one I bought does not have a lot of power (512mb RAM, 2GB Storage)and would be challenging to add RAM to (the Surf doesn't have back panel access). Yes, I asked a tech friend of mine to open the environment via Linux and make it more like a XP environment.
But it is the best computer for studying and traveling - so light, easy to use - and I would feel the same way if I kept the original environment. The ASUS environment is super-easy to navigate and the wi-fi connections work really well. OpenOffice works great!
I bought a little neoprene pouch for it and a little bag to carry a tiny mouse and my flash drive. Everywhere I go, people stare and ask questions. All for $350 (incl. the accessories, tax, and delivery). What's not to love? Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Traveling Computer Monday, May 12, 2008 Larry from Kansas City, KS
I plan to use this computer exclusively for traveling. Most hotels and airports now have WiFi or wired Internet service. When I travel, 99% of the time, my computer is used to check email and browse the Internet. The eee pc is easy to pack and carry. It provides a great web viewing experience.
I would not even consider using this as my primary computer. The keyboard, trackpad, and display are just too small for that. But is a perfect travel companion; small and lightweight.
The worst part of my experience so far has been installing the Java plugin into the Firefox browser. Because my computer runs Linux, installing new software is difficult for all but the hardcore Linux user. ASUS -- you need to install Java by default. A lot of web sites require that plugin! 5 of 5 nice size, convenient Monday, April 28, 2008 A Customer from New York, NY
I have had this for a month or two. For my needs it is perfect as is. I do limited word processing and occasional web browsing without problems. The basic games are actually fun (doesn't have Sudoku though--I thought it would from what I saw on the ASUS website). I have found no need to install Windows as the linux is very straightforward. Good buy Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 BEST THING SINCE MP3 Saturday, April 26, 2008 SKY from IDAHO
I am not a computer savy person, but this little machine is a breeze to use and understand. I wanted a small machine for travel that would easily find wi fi connections and this works great. Some reviewers objected to the small key board, but if you have articulate hands you will have no problem (I wear a medium guys glove.) An AMAZING machine for less than $300.- (I was going to say it was the best thing since the transistor radio, but I realized that most of you may not remember the "pocket" transistor radios of the 60s and the excitement they caused.) I got this one instead of higher level Eee PC because: ((1)). I think this is the bottom line of a laptop, I won't be able to get a ultra portable at this price..........((2)). I seldom use webcam when traveling. You won't be able to use video conference during flight. Though I would be very happy to have it if it's free.........((3)). 2G is large enough. I can use a USB flash for file accessing and I don't need to store the data in the computer. It's a solid state disk and the life of it depends on how many times you write on it. (No dependence on how many times you read it) You can easily replace a USB flash but not a solid state disk inside. And if you use it as a web browsing, email, power points, Word, (they have free OpenOffice)and some music, you don't even need to install Windows. Eee PC is "easy to learn, easy to play, easy to work"......((4)). I picked up the blue one cause I've been tired of white or black case...... ((5)). I think I will pick up an extra 8 cell battery (it's said coming soon) -- even carry one more battery, it's still just 3 lbs!! And with less than 500 dollars, you can have ~7 hr battery life, light weight laptop as USD 2000+ ones unless you want to play 3-D games or imaging processing, Matlab ... etc heavy loading during the flight......((6)). The bad for me now is that I'm not familiar with Linux ... it will take me some time to be able using more advanced applications, such as installing drivers for external webcam, etc ... Linux is not as user friendly as Windows... or maybe just because I've been attached to windows too long.
