The Eee Box is a mini desktop PC with huge possibilities. With a slim svelte design, the world's smallest desktop PC allows an array of space saving options. Plus, it's so easy to use and whisper quiet. The simple intuitive interface lets inexperienced users get started right away. There's no technical manual- simply plug it in and you are good to go! The Eee Box is ready to go in a matter of seconds with the exclusive Express Gate - an unbelievably quick boot up solution. You can power up and be on your preferred web browser, IM chat, photo manager or Skype in only 7 seconds. Asus includes a special VESA mounting kit that in 3 easy steps, lets you mount the Eee Box on the back of LCD monitors making it an all-in-one computer. Intel Graphic Media Accelerator 950 Graphics Card Wireless 802.11 b/g/n 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet Memory Stick/Memory Stick PRO/ SD / SDHC Card Reader 4 x USB 2.0, SPDIF; Microphone-in, DVI-I, RJ-45 It runs the familiar Windows XP Home operating system and it's powered by the 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, which uses a brand new design structure based on hafnium-infused circuitry to help reduce electrical current leakage and conserve energy. Other features include an 80 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM, Draft-N Wi-Fi networking (802.11b/g/n), four USB ports (including two on the front), DVI video output, and included round metal stand.

An accessible touch sensor button and vertical placement exudes a seamless and futuristic outlook, while smooth curves further accentuate a refined form that compliments most interior designs. The Eee Box even mounts VESA LCD displays for the ultimate space-saving solution (VESA 75/100 standard mount). With the exclusive Express Gate, ASUS' innovative fast boot technology, you can easily access the Internet, manage pictures, or communicate over IM/Skype just 7 seconds after boot up.

Compared to full-sized desktop solutions, the Eee Box's energy-efficient performance reduces power consumption by up to 90 percent. The Eee Box also utilizes Green Design and is made with only earth-friendly materials for reduced CO2 emissions, and it conforms to stringent RoHS and WEEE standards. Thus, you can be socially responsible while working, learning and playing in style. The innovative ASUS thermal solution also integrates a unique heat dissipation module with the AI fan, allowing quiet (26db) and comfortable computing.

The Intel Atom processor uses a brand new design structure that packs in 47 million transistors into a single chip sized at just 22mm (0.87 inches), and it uses just 2.5 watts of power--less than 1/10 of the 35 watts used by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor--for excellent battery management. This 1.6 GHz Atom processor also includes a power-optimized front side bus of 533 MHz for faster data transfer on demanding mobile applications and a 512 KB L2 cache (which temporarily stores data).

You get four USB 2.0 ports (two on the front of the PC), a DVI output for connecting to external monitors, headphone/line-out jack with digital audio output for surround sound, and a multi-format memory card slot (compatible with SD/MMC/Memory Stick media).

The Eee Box supports the latest Wi-Fi 802.11n wireless standard, providing up to six times faster connectivity than previous 802.11b/g wireless. You can download a 30 minute video in only 44 seconds (speed dependent on video source)--minimizing the wait and allowing time for twice as many movies. It's also backward compatible with 802.11b/g networks, commonly found in older home routers. You also get super-fast wired connectivity via the Gigabit Ethernet port (10/100/1000).

It comes preinstalled with the Microsoft Windows XP Home operating system, which offers more experienced users an enhanced and innovative experience that incorporates Windows Live features like Windows Live Messenger for instant messaging and Windows Live Mail for consolidated email accounts on your desktop. Complementing this is Microsoft Works, which equips the user with numerous office applications to work efficiently.

The Eee Box sports the same Intel Atom technology used in the new Eee 901 laptop and the MSI Wind U100 we looked at last month - a 1.6GHz dual core processor. For running XP and using the internet this hardware makes for a great computing experience. If you intend to have a setup which includes an external hard drive, printer or scanner you'll find the Eee a capable PC which lets you reclaim much needed desk space. ...read the full review

5 of 5 Perfect for the right application Friday, February 13, 2009
Chris Davis from Willmar, MN

I needed a computer for a specific application (displaying video on wall-mounted information centers.) My requirements were: Less than 2" thick, Windows XP or Vista, Low power consumption, cool operation, wireless and must be able to display full screen video smoothly. I can't believe how the Eee Box met and exceeded my expectations. It plays full screen WMV video all day and never breaks a sweat. It's so quiet that people are surprised when I tell them there's a full PC inside our displays.

3 of 5 Not completely satisfied Saturday, November 29, 2008
Susan G. from Bellingham, WA
I purchased this computer out of necessity -- and too quickly -- while waiting for my old one to be repaired. I did not realize that this desktop did not have outlets for a printer or a CD/DVD drive. I also had to purchase a new keyboard since my old one did not use a USB port. In order to install the software I needed, I had to take the computer to a shop to have the programs installed. The basic programs that come with the computer did not suffice. The ASUS Express boot up screen was not useful to me since I'm accustomed to the Windows XP environment. I do like the computer's slickness, its quiet, good download speeds but would recommend that the manufacturer point out that you need an external CD/DVD drive and a printer that can connect up to a USB port.

5 of 5 Great little box Tuesday, November 25, 2008
czbg from Long Island
Compact, easy to set up, easy to use, fast and it looks cool. Best of all is the quick boot feature. It's great for those times when you have to find an address in an e-mail before dashing out the door.

5 of 5 great even for small business. Saturday, November 22, 2008
Tom from orlando, FL
Very small footprint and built in wireless makes this a winner. Enough processing power to run day to day business type applications.I thought at first it would be very slow. Not the case. I scan PDF's run word and use charting software. Runs smooth. You can leave these running all day and not worry about the power bill. Easy to set up and get going. OH yes the Cost is the best part. You can not go wrong for under 300.

5 of 5 Excellent Value Sunday, November 09, 2008
TechPro from El Paso, TX
This machine boots faster and is far more responsive than my quad-core system running Vista-64 edition! Excellent unit to browse the net, word processing, spreadsheets, database applications. Really good choice for small spaces - you can attach it to the back of the monitor with the included hardware. The unit is a very lean, green efficient machine. Highly recommend it.

5 of 5 sexy and useful Monday, November 03, 2008
dan from gainesville, fl
The first words I hear when people see it is "Oh wow! is that the full computer?" Its a great little box. Quiet. Has enough power for basic tasks. Set up is easy. The components (keyboard, mouse) aren't top of the line, but they're solid and look nice. If I'd have known there was a Linux version, I'd have bought that instead of wasting money on a Windows license, but as you'd expect, Linux works out of the box, minus the wireless-N, which I may investigate someday. I'm buying more of these (the Linux version). Recommended for those in your family who need an email/browser machine, but not much else.

5 of 5 small, nice, cheap, basic computer Wednesday, October 29, 2008
stonny9 from pembroke pines, fl
Just got mine today. No bloat or trial software installed. Installed AVG, OpenOffice, 23 updates plus sp3 in about 1.5 hours while I watched a movie from netflix on the tv. So it could of been done faster it I sat staring at the computer waiting to restart it. PC is tiny and I couldnt hear any noise from it. I am building a SFF pc for me within a month and selling my old pc. The mouse is smaller than a regular mouse but bigger than a tiny laptop mouse.

5 of 5 very cool, quiet, small and nice looking Tuesday, September 23, 2008
Master Wapas from Coulterville CA
very slick machine, but no cd, no monitor. I mounted on back of 26" lcd, way better than a laptop, and no footprint. Needs more usb ports on rear, as the key and mouse take up both. You have to plug anything else into the front. Not a power house, but only used 18 watts while surfing the internet, Plus what ever the monitor uses and your modem of course. But put me on the internet way under 100 watts ac. Very green and lean
