"Magically written, directed and acted, AS GOOD AS IT GETS is the best and funniest romantic comedy of the year."-Kenneth Turan, LOS ANGELES TIMES
 Editor's Note
Acerbic and outwardly despicable pulp novelist Melvin Udall lives in a haze of obsessive-compulsive behavior patterns, avoiding cracks in the sidewalk and rigidly adhering to his regimen of daily breakfasts in the cafe where harried single mom Carol Connelly (Helen Hunt) is the only waitress he'll accept. But his ordered, hermetic world falls apart when his neighbor, a gay painter, needs a babysitter for his cherished dog--and only his long-time nemesis Melvin will do. Then, when the waitress's son's serious illness keeps her from work, Melvin realizes how much he needs her after all. 5 of 5 Wit and humor Wednesday, February 28, 2007 A Viewer from Greenvale, NY
This movie is very clever, and hysterical. Best to watch it with good company, especially those that will let you pay attention so you're able to see the slow changes in the OCD character Jack plays. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 A Must Have Movie Monday, January 14, 2002 omarquadri from St. Louis, Missouri
I am a psychiatrist and this movie made me a huge fan of Jack Nicholson. His portrayal of someone with Obssessive Compulsive Disorder is excellent. I was also struck by the attention to minute details, which are more noticeable the second time you see the movie. This movie has a great message for the public in general: people with mental illness can be compassionate and generous folks who may superficially appear rude and irritating. This a must have movie for anyone's collection. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 I dares ya to not love this here movie! Monday, August 09, 1999 Natalie from Santa Barbara, CA
Oh, man. Is Helen Hunt the most underappreciated actors around or what? She makes YOU feel what her character feels, it's almost creepy if she wasn't so freakin' good at it. Hey, at least hollywood isn't completely comatose, she did get the Oscar in '98 for this. And Mr. Kinnear, Nicholson, Gooding Jr., and anyone else I forgot added so much to this film as well. Look, just buy the stupid thing, okay?!? You'll thank me tremendously later. Was this review helpful?
