Looks good, touch screen responds well (I have thick fingers), and comes with a remote for typing. I am putting all my 2-year-old's video tapes and DVDs onto it so I am not switching out discs all the time (using the GEN 5 station to capture and show TV, DVD, and VCR.) Also plan to use it for long family trips or air travel.

Pros: connects via to wireless network or USB, can connect to network folders, works with Media Player 11 Sync, or you can drag and drop files onto it as an external drive. Stores video, audio, pics and plays them back.
<p>Cons: Extra $50 for the fully-functional web browser ($30) and cinema plug-in ($20). Cinema plug-in allows you to play any format (vob, mov, mp4, etc) without converting your existing library to AVI. Sync transfers, does not convert. TV Lineup not working for me. Was this review helpful?

The device is great. I own av700. I upgraded to 705 because archos will not sell upgrades to play h.264 on the av700. The screen resolution on 705 is great. Better than the creative w. On this the av700 is king. I have not tried to see anything with deep black colors on 705. I believe there is some distortion with deep black colors with most portable vid players. The sound on the audio jack has something to be desired(I use a cassette adapter to a tape player)On this the av700 is better. Probably will not play anything well with sound below 128bits. The speakers are good...louder than av700. The web features are good. The pages load pretty fast on wifi. The is one of the few portable devices that is able to play flash. It will play youtube vids. When the video plays the 705 on the web page overtakes the entire 7' screen. Whatelse .. with the plugin this device plays vob. As far as I know this is the only portable device with this capability...The startup for this is device is about 39 seconds from a complete hard drive shutdown or 4 seconds from suspendtion mode. U must use a style stick for everything. no eternal buttons to fast forward or rewind...lastly 705 will play xvid divx jpeg pdf mp3. for the h264,vob and web features you have to buy the plugins. I had no need to call the service center so I cant comment on that. Was this review helpful?

Archos 705 WIFI is about all you need rolled into one. MP3, Movie Player, Internet, Storage Device, Media Extension, Music and Movie Recorder, etc., for just one prize and a few inexpensive plugins. Even if you sum up all the cost you got on this item, still cheaper than if you buy an MP3 player, media extension, laptop, hard disk drive and recorder.
It is user friendly and you'll be satisfied with it's superb sound and picture quality.
The only recommendation I have for this device is that it should have a wireless bluetooth capability, which is convenient, but not too important.
I am recommending this device to all of you techno-geeks. I give it a 5 star Was this review helpful?
