We have used several of these to back up telephone systems for customers. They are well built and truly plug and play. The layout of the outlets allows for standard cords and wall-wort type adapters. We have had no problems with any of the installed units to date. It is a good idea to run your battery backup on battery for a short while every month or so to discharge and exercise the battery. It will help to increase the lifespan of the gel-cel type batteries inside. The included CD has software to allow the PC to track power conditions and perform regular testing of the batteries. I would recommend this to users needing this size unit, great for PC's, home audio/TV equipment, etc.

I'm using this to power a Powermac G5, with several external drives attached, LCD display, and network accessories in a home server environment. Battery meter appears in menu bar and shows about 19 min under normal use. Options for auto-shutdown appear to be built-in to leopard server for this unit. I'd recommend this unit to others. It works as expected and for a reasonable price. If you're looking to save energy, you might want to look at a smaller unit. However, it's quite efficient for a UPS of its capacity.

This is my 5th UPS from APC. Most of them were very reliable from the time they were purchased until past the warranty period. Some failures were battery related. I typically buy new batteries for these issues. However a couple of the issues were other failures. Within warranty APC usually had a new unit here within 48 hours at no charge to me. This unit is too new to know how it will perform, but I bought it based on my generally favorable experiences with my other APC units. This unit is smaller and lighter than previous units of similar capacity.

I was faced with a replace battery for old APC Backups Pro or buy a new one. I am glad to have spent the extra $40 for the new model. The APC battery backups that I purchase are generally not hard to set up. The battery for the unit was much easier to install than with the older unit. No wires to attach to clips. There is ample room for transformers to plug in on the back without the "floppy" connections on my older battery backup that sometime allowed the transformers to come loose. With eight outlets, I was able to get rid of an extra surge strip that cluttered under my computer desk. The new software is fine. I like that it now tells me the load that the items pull and the estimate of how long it will last. With LaserJet4, Thinkpad R52, 19" CRT, office lamp, and assorted small peripherals, backup is estimated to last 35 minutes or more. On my prior units APC supported a networked version so that the main computer (three person/computer office) could see batter and power problems on all battery backups. The new software does not support that function. At this point the power has not gone off yet so I do not know how the graceful shutdown will work. I am pleased with the unit so far.

Compact, simple, chats via USB with your computer. A nice feature is that it can "cold start", i.e. you can turn it on without having utility power. Not all UPSs are capable of this. This is the fourth APCC UPS I've had and not likely to be the last.
