|
From the Publisher:
When Pryce, a government-connected shadow-man, offers Burke up-to-date medical services for "the Prof" and a pardon in exchange for a dangerous mission, Burke takes on the job to rescue the kidnapped son of a Saudi prince, only to discover that the mission could lead to dangerous revelations about his own past. 50,000 first printing. |
Annotation:
Father and sons...sons and fathers....In order to save his surrogate father, the underworld crime boss known as Prof, Burke hastily agrees to rescue the kidnapped son of a Saudi Arabian prince--using any means necessary. Billed as the "final Burke novel," ANOTHER LIFE certainly is propelled forward by an urgency to come full circle.

Author Bio
Andrew H. Vachss
Andrew Vachss, an attorney specializing in juvenile justice and child abuse, has written many novels featuring social vigilante, Burke, a man with a mission to put away child molesters for good. Like his ex-con hero, Vachss (pronounced "Vax") is a social crusader for the protection of children. He graduated from case Western in 1965 with a B.A. and from The New England School of Law in 1975 with a J.D. He began his first novel in 1983 when he realized the difficulties of making a living as a lawyer representing abused children. For years, Vachss wrote ideas for characters, themes, and plots on index cards, and when he finally felt he had accumulated enough, he wrote his debut novel, FLOOD. Since then, Vachss has continued his two-pronged attack against molesters, fighting in both the courtroom and on the pages of his best-selling mysteries. He has also founded "Don't! Buy! Thai!", an organization protesting child prostitution and calling for a boycott of all products from Thailand. Vachss is the author of several comic book series (some original stories, some based on his own voluminous collection of short stories) and his nonfiction has been published in numerous national publications.

Revenge is like any other religion: There’s always a lot more preaching than there is practicing. And most of that preaching is about what not to practice. “Vengeance is mine” translates to: “It’s not yours.” The karma-peddlers will tell you how doing nothing is doing the right thing, reciting, “What goes around comes around,” in that heavy-gravity tone reserved for the kind of ancient wisdom you find in comic books. Every TV “counselor,” every self-help expert, every latte-slurping guru . . . they all chant some version of the same mantra: “Revenge never solves anything.” Their favorite psalm is Forgiveness. And their hymn books are always open to the same page. Get it? When you crawl away, you’re not being a punk; you’re just letting the cosmos handle your business. Whoever hurt you, they’ll get theirs, don’t worry. Just have a little faith. |
