Director Davis Guggenheim eloquently weaves the science of global warming with Al Gore's personal history and lifelong commitment to reversing the effects of global climate change in the most talked-about documentary of the year. An audience and critical favorite, An Inconvenient Truth makes the compelling case that global warming is real, man-made, and its effects will be cataclysmic if we don't act now. Gore presents a wide array of facts and information in a thoughtful and compelling way: often humorous, frequently emotional, always fascinating. In the end, An Inconvenient Truth accomplishes what all great films should: it leaves the viewer shaken, involved and inspired.

An Inconvenient Truth is stored in eco-friendly packaging that is designed to create the smallest possible environmental footprint. This structure differs from a standard amaray in several important ways:

It is much thinner - something to keep in mind when considering your accounts' retail merchandising needs.

Made with 100% post-consumer waster recycled paper.

No plastics or laminates.

No shrink wrap - the package will be fastened by an eco-friendly corn-based seal.

All inks are UV-Coated for minimum environmental impact.

No stickers - all information is communicated on the package itself.

No inserts or excess materials of any kind.

In addition, what is communicated on packaging will be different from any other DVD:

The back of the DVD package directs consumers to www.climatecrisis.net where a free downloadable educational guide will be available.

On one inside panel is a list of "Ten Things You Can Do" to help fight global warming.

The other inside panel provides space for those who wish to donate the DVD to schools or libraries to inscribe their names.

Finally, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each DVD will be donated to a charity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

"One of the most important films of our time."  Jeffrey Lyons, NBC's Reel Talk
"If this does not move you to change, nothing will."  Larry King
"You will be captivated, then riveted, and then scared out of your wits."  Richard Cohen, The Washington Post

Editor's Note

A movie based on a PowerPoint presentation by a former presidential candidate may not sound exciting, but once AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH hits its stride viewers may be surprised how compelling the subject matter proves to be. While many high-ranking political figures continue to argue about global warming, Al Gore has plunged headlong into a serious wake-up call for the planet with a series of lectures about the problem. It's on one of these lectures that this movie from director Davis Guggenheim is based. Guggenheim breaks up Gore's delivery by illustrating his points with film footage, much of which features the former Democratic nominee exploring the globe as he examines the effects of global warming. Gore's speech is neatly divided between calm recitations of the facts about the issue and several stories of a personal nature. His skills as an orator are considerable, and it's hard not to be alarmed by most of what he has to say. Indeed, as Gore relates tales of melting polar icecaps, rising global temperatures, and the reluctance of political leaders to do something about the problem, the film takes on an air of hopelessness and doom, especially as no easy solutions are offered. Gore's advice is for individuals to take steps to reduce their own inadvertent poisoning of the atmosphere, and to persuade others to do likewise. It's a powerful message, and one that is likely to remain in non-cynical minds long after the film comes to a conclusion.

The concept of global warming is nothing new to me. I grew up in a part of the country surrounded by flower-child communes dedicated to returning to a more natural way of life to help save the planet. Somehow, hearing about the risks of global warming from the former Vice President of our country carries a lot more weight than hearing about it from people who preferred to bathe in their own sweat rather than water and smelled distinctly of marijuana most of the time. ...read the full review

The problem with An Inconvenient Truth isn't the message; it's the messenger. If the film's goal is to educate and warn about Global Warming, why use one of the most divisive political figures of the last decade as the spokesman? I don't have a problem with Al Gore, but how many Republicans (and possibly even Independents) are going to be interested in spending 100 minutes listening to the ex-Vice President talking about Global Warming? Thus, instead of a wake-up call, this film - which is an excellent primer about the situation - turns into a sermon for the choir. - James Berardinelli

Forget [Al Gore] ever ran for office. Consider him a concerned man speaking out on the approaching crisis. "There is no controversy about these facts," he says in the film...He stands on a stage before a vast screen, in front of an audience. The documentary is based on a speech he has been developing for six years, and is supported by dramatic visuals. He shows the famous photograph "Earthrise," taken from space by the first American astronauts. Then he shows a series of later space photographs, clearly indicating that glaciers and lakes are shrinking, snows are melting, shorelines are retreating...I did a funny thing when I came home after seeing "An Inconvenient Truth." I went around the house turning off the lights. - Roger Ebert

5 of 5 Great for Kids Tuesday, April 22, 2008
AJ from Stuart, FL

We chose to watch this film as a family on Earth Day. It is an excellent film and very captivating, even my 8 year old daughter seemed entranced with the dramatic images. I find it very hard to believe anyone could dispute the information that Al Gore has compiled together and so clearly displays in this movie. Knowing some of his speeches from the past, I was worried that he might not be able to keep my attention but it was quite the opposite. The film bounces between video of him talking to audiences with his slide show to him visiting different effected areas to recounts of his own personal life experiences. He interjects anecdotal stories in between the visuals that help break up the seriousness of the movie. His graphics very clearly show the issues he's presenting and make the science behind it very easy to understand, even for an 8 year old. I seriously believe anyone who has anything negative to say about this film probably has not seen it. This is a must see, and especially with kids since they are the ones inheriting our mistakes and aren't "set in their ways" yet.

5 of 5 Great job in explaining the complex scientific con Thursday, March 08, 2007
Denise H. Williams from New York, NY
Gore explains complex scientific ideas in plain English. He also interweaves personal events that are relevant to the storyline. This documentary is not political. Afterall, Mother Nature doesn't give a damn what your political affiliation is!! I would recommend this for all adults that care about the environment; the quality of their life; and the future quality of their children lives. Take your kids, then have a good conversation with each other. Would also recommend it as a teaching aide for schoolage children. Junior highschoolers and above should be able to grasp the basic concepts. Very well done and rivoting documentary.

5 of 5 An Excellent Film Thursday, December 14, 2006
A Viewer from Durham, NC
An Inconvenient Truth is as informative, thoroughly researched, and interesting as you'd expect. What's surprising about it is that it's really entertaining as well! Packed full of spectacular cinematic footage of natural sites around the world, intercut with the human element of Gore's personal journey, this film is a must-see.
