Editor's Note
With their classically trained vocals and pop-star photogenic looks, sopranos Jo Appleby and Tsakane Valentine, tenors Geoff Sewell and David Habbin, and bass baritone Nick Garrett make up the world's first opera band Amici Forever. What distinguishes them from the burgeoning ranks of crossover hopefuls are the group's wide vocal range and imaginative approach that transforms even much-abused warhorses into fresh-sounding anthems. This program captures Amici Forever live in concert at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Harvey Theater in New York City, performing a selection of songs from their two albums THE OPERA BAND and DEFINED, including stylish arrangements of pop standards like "Unchained Melody" and "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" as well as soaring, operatic ballads such as "Nella Fantasia" and "Nessun Dorma."
