Though it's strange for any of these singers to appear on a greatest-hits collection before the winner, Kelly Clarkson, even released her debut album, it isn't all that surprising -- with the tremendous amount of exposure the show attracted, even the most marginally talented semi-finalists still have a few minutes of fame left. As with the show itself, where each of the performers got more or less an equal shot at proving their talent, American Idol: Greatest Moments is relatively democratic: The winner and runner-up, Clarkson and Justin Guarini, get two songs apiece, the rest of the final ten each get one song, and the album closes with an ensemble number, the lackluster rendition of "California Dreamin'" all ten finalists performed on American Idol's final episode. Though democracy is an admirable trait in other ways of American life, in American Idol: Greatest Moments it does some of the more talented semi-finalists a disservice; while it's nice to commemorate Jim, AJ, and EJ's tenures on the show with their versions of "Easy," "I'll Be," and "My Cherie Amour," respectively, it also would've been nice to hear more from some of the more memorable contestants, particularly Tamyra Gray, whose "A House Is Not a Home" was one of the show's highlights (but then, nearly every time she sang it was a highlight), and Christina Christian, whose cool, languid style -- represented here by "Ain't No Sunshine" -- just didn't translate well in a contest designed to discover the next Whitney Houston or Justin Timberlake. Some of the selections are also somewhat questionable: Nikki's performance of "Piece of My Heart" is adequate, but doesn't showcase her voice as well as her version of "I'm the Only One" did just a few weeks later. As usual, Guarini and Clarkson sound polished and professional on their signature songs, "Get Here" and "Respect." However, starting the album out with their performances means the album tends to go downhill from there. Craftily, American Idol: Greatest Moments doesn't feature Clarkson or Guarini's renditions of the official American Idol songs, "Before Your Love" or "A Moment Like This" -- you'll have to pick up their respective albums for those. Overall, the collection is definitely a product of the show that inspired it, which will doubtlessly please the fans of the newly minted pop stars on it. ~ Heather Phares | | Despite being a glorified version of Ed McMahon's Star Search, American Idol officially became a pop-culture landmark as millions tuned in each week to see which young hopeful would finally grab the brass ring of success and a subsequent recording contract. AMERICAN IDOL: GREATEST MOMENTS recreates these magical moments by serving up the 10 semi-finalist performances. In order to overcome the stigma of anonymity and to hopefully make a connection with both the judges and the viewing audience, each singer was required to sing cover songs. Highlights include Tamyra Gray's version of the soulful "A House Is Not A Home" and Christina Christian's smoky take on Bill Withers's "Ain't No Sunshine." Runner-up Justin Guarini chimes in with a snappy "For Once In My Life" and a simmering rendition of Brenda Russell's "Get Here." Grand prize winner Kelly Clarkson cinches her status by impressively belting out a pair of songs from the Queen Of Soul's impressive canon: "Respect" and "(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman." As a bonus, AMERICAN IDOL: GREATEST MOMENTS also includes Clarkson's chart-topping original single "A Moment Like This" and "Before Your Love," both to appear on her forthcoming debut. |

I have enjoy the cd of the frist American Idol so much, it would be so nice to have a cd of the tour of the top ten of the frist Amercan Idol, I went to two of them, I enjoy it so much, I keep thinking they will come out with the vedeo of the tour, so we the fans could be able to see it over and over, that is how much I enjoy it,I hope you will think about making it for all of their fans, how nice it would be to have it. Hey, I think this CD is great. I like all of the songs. My first pick for the American Idol wasn't Kelly Clarkson but I did like her voice. I really like Nikki McKibbin and Ryan Starr. Kelly has a really nice voice I think that she was a great choice for the American Idol, well that's only because I didn't like Justin Guirini (I don't know how to spell his last name). OK Everyone now that the American Idol Greatest Moments CD is out what do you think of it? Well let me tell you what I think of it? OMG the CD is beautiful, all the top ten American Idols sound so nice, and the songs in which they all sang are so perfectly done, they all sound like major artists. Don't they? And what about our American Idol, Kelly Clarkson?? She did a great job don't you think? Woo Hooo..They did it!!! If you were one of the millions that watched "American Idol" from the beginning or just from a spot in the middle. You knew that it was a close shot. This CD AI: Greatest Moments has the top ten finalists at their best performing the better of the songs that they performed on the hit show. American Idol: Greatest Moments is definately a good title for the CD because it is the greatest selection of songs in the universe. With a mix of songs like RESPECT, Piece of my heart, A House is Not a Home, and many more, this CD is great for all ages and all people. If you like rock music, you've got Nikki. If you like slow love ballads, you've got Tamyra. If you like Aretha Franklin, you've got a double dose from Kelly. I love this CD so much, I'm sure you will too! So get your copy now! If you have not checked out the new American Idol Greatest Moments CD then you are definitely missing out! This CD shows the American Idol Top 10 finalists at their absolute best, being it a slow love ballad to an upbeat dance tune. Anybody who was an American Idol fan will love hearing Kelly Clarkson belt out her version of "Respect," and Nikki McKibben let everyone know what it is like to have a "Piece of my Heart."
