5 of 5 Works great Tuesday, December 16, 2008 Tucker from Wisconsin
Bought this for storm chaseing (ties in with my weather radar) and it works great. No complaints at all. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Convenient - Easy Tuesday, August 14, 2007 geegus from Lorton, Virginia
Fragile first came to mind but putting the device through its paces it is a little tank. Convenience and practicality is always what I look for in a product and this GPS device has it. It plugs and plays smoothly with XP and Vista. MS streets and trips 06 & 07 recognizes the device in reasonable amount of time. The only con is that the GPS device takes a long time to synchronize/find satellite reception, even on a clear day. Once linked with the satellites its global positioning is pretty accurate. I completely recommend this product. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Stopped working in two days Sunday, June 10, 2007 A Customer from redmond,wa
Everything was fine at first, but after just two days, it always got stuck when trying to receive satellite data. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Overall good product though questionable with the Tuesday, May 22, 2007 Andy from Newton Massachusetts
I am using this receiver with MapPoint 2007. In general it picks up the signal pretty well but it seems if the signal was ever lost somehow, it takes a little bit longer to regain the signal. The other issue probably related to the software, if I am stuck in the traffic or waiting on the stop sign, the alert between¡¨on route¡¨ and ¡§off route¡¨ alternates and quite annoying. Overall it is a good product but keep in mind; it will eat battery life quite fast. Either it is a short drive or you will need another in car power source for the device you attach this GPS receiver to. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Product Monday, April 02, 2007 alnielsen from Villa Park, IL
I use Microsoft Streets & Trips. I purchaced this after the GPS reciever, supplied with the software, wouldn't work any more. It works great. The magnet, in the base, is strong and it shouldn't blow off even at high speeds. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Received Rev. 2 GPS Friday, March 30, 2007 Jim from Sisters, OR
I was concerned after reading an earlier review of this product which cited some accuracy problems with the Rev. 1 product (which is what Buy.com said it is selling.) Yet when the product arrived I was pleased to find that a Rev. 2 model was delivered.
I used this unit with MS Streets & Trips 2006 and, as advertised by Ambicom, it works great with this software.
I think this is a great product (regardless of price - I got it for about $30 with a rebate.) I had been using an older Garmin self contained GPS unit with my laptop but was interested in a USB model because it draws its power from the laptop's USB port. I had experiencing difficulty with my Garmin's battery running low.
Nothing could be simpler: easy to install driver, compact unit with strong magnet for dash or rooftop mounding, long cord, flawless performance. Oh, I forgot - LOTS of FUN! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Problem with Buy.com shipping Friday, March 30, 2007 A Customer from Atlanta, GA
After 3 and haft weeks of ordering, I still don’t have the Ambicom GPS USB Navigation Receiver. Thanks to Buy.com brilliant way of shipping, UPS to USPS. Looking at tracking, the package was traveling from CA to Atlanta GA, my city, via UPS. Then the package transferred to USPS to be delivered to my address. Somehow, USPS forwarded the package back to CA instead of delivering to my house. After the package arrived in CA, they realized they have made a mistake and sending it back to Atlanta. I know it’s not Buy.com’s fault. However, they need to know their shipping method sucks and should stay with one vendor. Transferring from one vendor to another sometime can be confusing. 2 of 5 BE SURE IT WILL WORK WITH YOUR SOFTWARE FIRST. Thursday, March 29, 2007 A Customer from Port Saint Lucie, FL
I purchased one of these to replace a garmin sensor that stopped working. The software I had with the garmin product was called nroute. When I attempted to use this sensor with the nroute software, it would not work. Ambicom support is terrible. I called them (a long distance call to california)and after sitting on hold for a long time, I was finally forced to leave a voice mail. The first time, I just hung up and attempted to continue to try to resolve the issue myself. Eventually, I called them again and the same thing happened, this time I left a voice mail. No one ever called me back. I emailed their support and it took about a day to get a reply, but it was very vague. This is the exact response copy and pasted from the email ***AmbiCom GPS software is only work on AmbiCom GPS product*** The verbage appears to be from an out of country support person, probably India. So I did some research and I could not find Ambicom software, but the package says it will work with streets and trips 2003 2004 and 2005. My intent was to buy streets and trips 2007, but I wanted to be sure it would work with it, so I sent support another email. Here is a copy/paste from that email reply ***Is Garmin GPS software open for any other brand GPS product? Our GPS product can work with any open GPS software with NMEA0183 standard protocol or upper such as Microsoft streets&trips 2006 or upper*** Again, it does not sound like proper english to me.
So, I paid the $40 for streets and trips and the $39 GPS ended up costing $79. So my advice is be sure you know exactly what software will work with this product before buying it, because if you decide to sent it back to buy.com, that will be a whole other nightmare.

5 of 5 Great Product, Reasonable Price! Wednesday, March 21, 2007 Don D from Albion, IN
I own two other GPS units and this one is by far the best. It has an extremely fast acquisition time and a very strong receiver. It's simple to use and the built in magnet facilitates attachment to almost anyplace in a car. It works well with either Delormes' Street Atlas or Streets and Trips. Just a great unit! 5 of 5 Works great with Map Point 2004 Tuesday, March 20, 2007 A Customer from Williamsburg, VA
I followed the install directions and it works perfectly. The description for NMEA compliant should say "NMEA 0183" not "0831". I use it almost everyday and have had no problems.

I'm using this with Mappoint 2006 and it works flawlessly.
Plugs right in and just works.
Can't say any more.
Seems to pick up all available satellites and provide good, repeatable position info.
Impossible to recommend product more.
