4 of 5 Inexpensive method to access internet radio 7/7/2009
Ferdinand T from Las Vegas
For 16 bucks you get a small usb unit that can access many radio stations around the world. If you just want to see what is playing anywhere, you can't go wrong with this little device. It is a little unintuitive in accessing many channels but usage can be done by just trial and error.

5 of 5 Excellent, but had an installation issue with Vist 6/27/2009
Jan Studebaker from Jemez Springs, NM
The Aluratek AIRJ01F USB Internet Radio Jukebox is an exceptional device for the $10 I paid for it, and quite a nice new toy! Keep in mind that there are way fewer American stations than foreign, but a regular still radio pales in comparison. The sound quality and ease of use is quite good. However, the installation on Vista would have been impossible without the excellent tech support I received from Aluratek. I'm quite a bit more computer literate than most, as I am a longtime webmaster, and have done some tech support in the past for Los Alamos National Laboratory. The rep. took control of my computer, and worked me through the issue. He spent about an hour before he worked out the problem. I am a very impressed and satisfied user now!

4.7 of 5 Works Well 2/18/2009
from Salisbury MD
After reading the reviews on this little tuner I figured for the price I couldn't go wrong. It works very well right out of the package, install is easy, setting up favorite stations is simple
uses very little computer resources to run.I wish the software allowed adding stations you find on your own, but a very good value still.

3.7 of 5 Interesting toy 2/17/2009
Jim from Libertyvile, Illinois
This product works as advertised but does not automatically start up on my vista 64 computer. It saves time searching for a variety of stations you would never know existed, but does not have a lot of local stations that you might want to listen to. That may change if they add more stations to their inventory. It does not replace services such as live 365, but then you are not constantly forced to listen to annoying ads.

4.7 of 5 Love it... 2/17/2009
D from Laughlin, NV USA
Got this about 3 weeks ago after seeing it on sale in the weekly newsletter. Had considered the product for a while...but was waiting for the price to come down. It did...I bought it.
Running Windows 7 Beta...the dongle works fantastic. I run it with my desktop & EeePC netbook with the mentioned OS. Have not had the chance to try it in Linux or with an OS/X box yet...but that will be forthcoming in the near future.
The only issue I have had with it is the error of telling you the dongle isn't registered & to contact the company. Solution to this...go into "Device Manager" & delete the device. Reboot & plug in...you're good to go. Also wish it had an "alarm clock" function...then it would be the perfect device!

5 of 5 stop reading--and get it! 2/16/2009
from Orlando, FL
Sure you could spend time searching web for radio stations you already know about/like and bookmark 'em. Forget that. Buy this device--it simply puts world radio music in your hands. Simply plug it in. Initially my XP Pro wanted to reboot but I ignored it (other reviews) and in about 45 seconds I was on a London dance radio station. If you've read this far you can believe me when I say, get it while it still exists. (I got mine for nineteen ninety-nine). This device makes it easier to listen to music, and isn't that what life is all about? Enjoying music of the genre you want--when you want it.

5 of 5 USB Radio Jukebox by Aluratek-Great Product! 1/1/2009
from Hurst, Texas
I purchsed this for myself to travel with. I am listening to a station in Japan as I write this. Could not be more pleased with the plug and play simplicity and the variety of stations. Simply Awesome! I would recommend buying 2 one for home and one for travel. The purchase price for this USB radio with over 13,000 pre programmed channels is far less than 1 month of Sirius or XM Radio and you can carry it your purse or pocket it is so small. This is by far my favorite gadget. Enjoy!

4.7 of 5 COOL LITTLE GIZMO 12/31/2008
Ron from Lakewood, OH
This is a awesome little device. The radio stations are pre-sorted by genre and/or geography. They even provided a means to recommend stations you want added. Your favorites can be stored. The one thing that I wasn't expecting that blew me away was the sound quality. I have stereo speakers with a subwoofer connected to my PC and it's quite an experience because some stations are HI-DEF and most of them are broadcasting in true stereo. The sound is almost studio quality.
The only reason I rated "ease of use" a 4 was because I experienced a compatibility problem with WINAMP which sees the device as an external drive and kept trying to execute a program. Aluratek's tech support wasn't much help but I was able to get a fix from the WINAMP online forum. I passed the solution on to Aluratek who said they'd add it to their database.
Overall, I rate it A HIT!

Deborah from Greencastle, IN.
The cost was $19.99 with free shipping and I believe this to be an extremely good buy. It was a Christmas gift for my husband and he loves it. He surfs around sampling stations and enjoys going to other stations in other countries to see the style of music they are listening to. Good product and a good way to expand your taste for music

I initially had an installation issue on Christmas day, later to find out that their server was down for mainenance. Just like advertised...plug and play. This product is fantastic. I have traveled internationally and now have a way to keep up with current events, music, talk radio, etc. I actually bought this for my kids but may have to get one for myself as well.

5 of 5 This is great! 12/28/2008
lhein1 from Yardley, PA
I am so happy with this gadget. It is fun to just plug it in and see, literally, an entire world of music stations become available before your eyes. The program is very user friendly. There are many music genres to select. Individual stations can be rated, and marked as favorites. Certain stations get better reception than others, but good stations are strong and sound great. You can spend hours playing with this thing. I was lucky and got it at a sale price of $19.99 and at that price, I recommend it highly.

Jeff from Wilson,NC
If I didn't already have an XM radio this would be a fun thing to have and a money saver. It did take a little figuring to get it up and running and it didn't have all of the stations that I was looking for, but I did find some that I hadn't heard in years and that made this little investment definitely worth the price.

4.7 of 5 Quite inovative 12/28/2008
Duane from Titusville, Florida
Got 2 of these for my sons for Christmas and they really like the product!
I looked at the blogs on the use and informed them that if they had problems (like young people have problems with computer things....NOT!) to go to the website....they didn't have to.
Got a great deal on these through buy.com and it was something that nobody had or was offering ...so it was a hit.

5 of 5 Excellent product 12/28/2008
from Fisher, Illinois
I logged onto ebay one morning before work and happened to select the deals of the day and up popped this product! It is just a USB port but when plugged in, gives you access to over 13,000+ radio stations. My kids said it is like a jukebox. My kids are 22 & 20 and they loved it!
Only downfall is that my son didn't really want a 'pink' one, however, that was the only color available.
Definately a repeat shopper!

5 of 5 Nice fo rthe price... 12/24/2008
DaveI from Dulles, VA
Paid $20 with free shipping...I already own the Aluratek internet clock radio and thought that this USB Dongle would be using the VTUNER Website like the clock radio model but instead this one uses
http://www.iradiopop.com website...They're all mostly the same though except this one is missing some stations that VTUNER has and has alot more European stations...Still it works very well...When you first plug it in in unpacks a small cab file and after that everything works...What I really like about it is the fact that the processor useage of the PC is so low (Like 2 to 3 percent) when the built in player is playing so you can listen to music and do your other websurfing etc. with no affect on other applications (As long as you have bandwidth)...

5 of 5 Internet Radio Organizer 11/6/2008
efells from Essex Fells, NJ
I know you can easily repeat what this product does by surfing the net and book marking your found stations, but this product does it so much better. Plug it in and it works. I had a minor problem in that if you do not have a persistent internet connection the program will hang if you are not connected. Other than that, it works as advertised. It will provide hours of entertainment. It is a good value.

4.3 of 5 Aluratek Internet Radio 10/6/2008
from Chatsworth, GA
Product works well most of the time. Drops some stations, carries others with sound interrupts, but gives excellent performance overall. When it won't download from a click, I can download station homepages for streaming, from the device icons.
When demonstrating the product to a friend, it refused to deliver sound/download any country stations for him. I'd call this an asset, but you might not.
At least once, it has refused to download and claimed that I had an unregistered product. Haven't seen a registration prompt yet.
Delivers what it promises.

4 of 5 A Great Beginning 9/26/2008
from houston TX
It is easy to plug and play. But, it gave me a message that I would have to do a "manual" load. When I clicked on the link, there was a choice of the operations manual, or a long list of drivers. Very confusing. Fortunately, a re-boot solved the problem.
I am listening to stations all over the world, with a consistent problem: signal stops and starts. This may be a problem of the internet, but it is still frustrating.
Anyhow, in about 2 years, I am sure the item will be perfected. In the meantime, this one will do.
One big issue: no launch icon and the unit does not show up in "Programs". Guess I'll just plug and unplug it as need be.

4.3 of 5 Convenience & portability are the strongest sellin 9/23/2008
Rev. Felix the Black Cat from Madison, WI
I think that convenience and portability are the strongest selling points, since most of these streams are freely available to be played with other software. This little device, though, is handy for providing the software out of the box and aggregating all these radio streams into one place, so you don't need to go searching all over the web for streams, worry about getting the right format for your software, or the right software for the format. Plus, you can take it with you and use it on any Windows 2000, XP or Vista machine with your favorites list & settings intact. (So, if you have headphones, you can take it with you to the library, your school's computer lab, etc., and still listen to your favorite streams.)
I'm not sure if I would've paid the list price for this, though, for what it is. I think this could be modified slightly to be sold (for significantly less) purely as a software package for installation on your own regular USB drive, perhaps as part of one of the portable USB systems, such as the proprietary U3, or a version that would work with the PortableApps platform. (PortableApps wouldn't put it up for distribution on their own site, since this wouldn't be open source, but, being an open system, "non-official" apps. can be added to your PortableApps platform rather easily, as I have done several times.)
As far as the problems a few others have reported, I haven't had such problems at all. Perhaps they just got faulty units. I haven't had any problems with "removing shortcuts from task bars, etc." (I'm not even sure what the other reviewer means by that) or with it "having a mind of its own" and "reloading itself." Perhaps, again, it was just a faulty unit, or there was some odd conflict with something else on the other person's computer? Mine has worked just fine so far on every computer I've tried it.

5 of 5 Surprised & Very Pleased! 9/23/2008
Bob from Orange County, California
I ordered Aluratek with great doubts, feeling it was probably a gimmick. I was dead wrong, it's amazing! Tune in on your computer automatically & listen to 11.l,000 radio stations from all over the world. They are indexed by geography, genre/type of music, quality, etc. Let's you rate the stations, develop favorites lists, etc.
The quality reception of many stations is amazingly good. Plug in headphones or an external speaker, etc for great
sound.

For $25 this is one of the best electronic toys I've ever bought (and I've bought many. Just plug it in and it all works perfectly the first time. It is obvious how to use it. I've had great fun traveling around the world to see what playing. Right now I'm listening to Antenne Bayern (in Germany), a very cool pop station. I travel extensively and this is going with me.

3.3 of 5 It works but not as easy as advertised 9/15/2008
from Thornton, Colorado
Item received on time and plugged in without any problems. The program loaded just fine and when making a station choice worked well. The only major problem is that there is no obvious way to delete stations that were tried but found wanting. Occasionally, there is some break up even though I am on a cable modem.

4.7 of 5 Hard to Tame 9/15/2008
Earful from Tampa, Florida
This little gem works as advertised. You just pry it out of the retail packaging, pull off a protective cap and shove it into a USB socket. It takes over, loads the programs and presents you with a menu of countless radio stations. So far so good. But when you try to remove shortcuts from task bars, etc., it has a mind of its own and keeps reloading itself. I finally purged every shred of this pest from my computer and will keep the gadget on hand in case I get caught somewhere without a conventional radio. (Which hasn't happened in my lifetime.)

4.3 of 5 Pretty cool, but not very polished 9/15/2008
Scatman Crothers from Madison, WI
It's obviously not a radio, but rather a USB-stored online radio streaming application with a bunch of links to free online radio stations that you could listen to even without the Aluratek. The software is kind of buggy, giving script errors on occasion, but it works. I had one problem in which both this device and my CDROM were rendered unusable by Windows, requiring an obscure registry change that I finally find online, so I'm suspicious that this caused it since I never use the CD. My biggest question is how the station list works: stored on the device or pulled from a server that's updated? Nothing makes that clear. They should have put some community-building software behind it that would allow updating and better descriptions (the device only gives genre, so you'll hit some duds). Still, for convenience alone, it's cool to just plug it on and start clicking on stations from all over the world. I've heard some interesting programming that I wouldn't have found otherwise.

5 of 5 Works exactly as advertised 9/2/2008
Ivan Volkoff from Detroit MI
This Product really is Amazing. I plugged it in to my USB port on my windows XP computer and within seconds I was listening to music around the world. There is no software that installs. The device is actually read as an external CD-Rom which is great because I hate installing software on my computer which slows it down. I have tried free internet radio sites in the past but got annoyed when I kept having to listen to advertisements before the music would play. Switch to another channel and then more advertisements. The only way to avoid that is is upgrade to a paid subscription which costs up to ten times more than this product annually. NO ADVERTISEMENTS with the Aluratek. I really like the user interface which is similar to the google earth approach. When you want to search for music by different country's click on the continent you want then on the country you want and all the stations are right there. They are also broken down by the type of genre for that country which is nice. People from other country's will love this item especially. It's really nice to listen to all the local stations from your home country as I do.

5 of 5 I really enjoyed using the product 8/28/2008
C Y W from NY, NY
I purchased the product because of the email blast I received from Buy.com. It was at a good price and sounded like a great product.
I was NOT disappointed. I plug it in a USB port and a user interface comes up. It is a very well designed internface that allowed me to choose lots (I don't know if it is 13,000), but lots of stations all over the world. I can chose by location/country and by genre just as described.
As I was doing my review, I saw the other reviewers' comments. I am diappointed that those reviews are not very accurate. It is called an internet radio jukebox and in the requirements, it did state internet access required. I checked for that too before I purchased. Because I wanted to make sure it worked the way it was described.
It also works very differently from those "free" sites. With those free sites, one was named by a reviewer, (I wonder if he/she works for the site), you have to click through their webpages and then go to the actual site of the radio stations and then click on whatever it is necessary to play the music.
This product, however, once you find the station in the user interface, requires one click. The music then begins. As far as I can tell, there were no downloads, softwares, cookies or anything else that got on my computer....
In any event, I love the product. My family now even gathers around the computer to pick our favorite stations. You know there are alot of good music outside of the US?

5 of 5 Works Well 8/27/2008
PuttForDoh from Fremont, CA
Just received my order today. Yes the product looks like a thumb drive, it is not. It works right out of the package as advertised. Yes you need internet connection but that is why it says Internet Radio in the description. The driver is built into the USB device. An Aluratek media browser launches and you get instant access to radio stations all over the world. Searching is very easy by genre or by region and country. They've collected all the available internet radio stations available in a library format and made it easy and fun for the user to listen to stations without downloading software or paying subscription fees.
It's interesting some people wrote that this is fake or a rip off on 8/25 when the product went on sale that day. I just got mine today and I have it playing on my laptop and I'm listening to my favorite jazz genre in Russia.
This is exactly what the description says it is and the flash demo on the web explains exactly what the product is. In my mind this product is worth way more.

For all the music lovers out there, this is a must have. This little thumb drive gives instant access to thousands and thousands of local radio stations around the world. It's truly plug and play no manual is required at all. My 14 year old studies Spanish in school and is fascinated by listening to the stations in Spain. I just can't believe how cheap this little gadget it. I would have paid much more for this.
