5 of 5 Great product from Aluratek Wednesday, January 21, 2009 A Customer from Nashville, TN
easy to use, screw driver included. reliable. the noise sound is lower than I expected. I hope Aluratek will become into a great brand. strongly recommend if you need a removable hard drive and want to save and access to something like movie, music everyday as to your C drive. Yes, this is an inexpensive external case, and yes, it handles my larger (320GB), but it's hot, rattles in the stand and unless I lay it down I can't deal with the noise. Done with plastic cases, sticking with Aluminum. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent; Easy setup Sunday, October 12, 2008 A Customer from NY, NY
Removed drive from machine and popped it into this unit. Easy plug and play on WinXP OS. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 The Tiny Screws Wednesday, October 08, 2008 Big Al from Lexington, Ky
The enclosure functioned perfectly and I had no trouble inserting a drive and getting it operational. My only difficulty was the little, eyeglass-size screws that are used to hold the covers in place. At my age, those four screws were very difficult to deal with, in spite of the kindly provided screwdriver. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Performance Monday, September 01, 2008 Don from WY
Pop off the cover, connect the hard drive, and you're in business. Plug-n-play on my XP and Vista machines. Just the trick to recover data from old computer hard drives. Swapping out hard drives is easy. The old hard drives are perfect for backing up MP3s, Pictures and other data. After a couple of hours, the hard drives do get a bit hot in the enclosure. It's not something I would leave powered on all day. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Very useful PC addition Thursday, July 31, 2008 Dr. Dave from Pittsburgh, PA
I had multiple hard drives lying around the house, that needed to be backed up and formatted. This item did the trick! I was able to safely and easily clear the drives.
Pros: easy to install/setup
Cons: difficult to close when HD is installed, enclosure doesn't snap in well, but I have not put the screws in it yet Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 love it Tuesday, July 29, 2008 A Customer from Bellechester,MN
I like being able to take an old drive and place it into this thing and retrieve old data... just one thing though it is more sensitive to stopping the drive before shutting off I did loose some data but after i learned that no issues works great Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 easy to use Monday, June 30, 2008 ibcruzing from Flushing, MI
Although there were no instructions on how to secure the hard drive into the case, it wasn't that hard to figure out once I studied out the parts. The drive was quickly recognized by my new Dell Vostro and I was in business in no time. The hard drive is a tad loud but I have it sitting on the desktop; it would be better inside the computer cabinet behind a door. Was this review helpful?

For a 30-dollar item, this really doesn't pack in too much by way of convenience. The interface is minimal. At times, I have to think that if it weren't for the power required by the internal HDD's, all you'd really need is a adapter cable that converts from IDE to USB. The enclosure looked cheaply made, but worked fine. If you don't stick the IDE and power cables under your drive, you should be even able to close the cover and insert the whole thing inside the vertical stand.
The device was truly plug-n-play. On my XP box, I had to do absolutely nothing other than to plug it in and power it on. Haven't had the chance to check out the performance yet, but I have little reason to believe that it's not at par with other USB 2.0 drives.
There's still too much to do in order to remove a drive and insert another one. So there's no convenience factor whatsoever. Here's a question for Iomega: when are you going to come out with a USB "reader" drive in which one can simply insert an internal HDD drive, like one does for a JAZ drive? Shouldn't this have been done years ago? I'm thinking the only reason this hasn't worked so far is the amount of pressure it takes to connect an IDE connector into the plug, not to mention the effort it takes to insert and remove the power connector. Maybe something like this is more practical for the SATA drives? Was this review helpful?
