3 of 5 Good product but lousy rebate policies Sunday, September 16, 2007
A Customer from MN

I purchased this product which I am generally quite happy about the product. Unfortunately when u applying for the mail in rebate, pray hard your rebate doesn't get into trouble. I mailed in the rebate in February. They printed my name and address wrongly on the letter resulting in me receiving the rebate at the end of August. Worse of all the name printed on the check was all spelled wrongly. I wondered if they used a character recognition software resulting in such a poor spelling of my name Every part of my name had error in it!I have just mailed in my rebate for correction

4 of 5 comparable with other devices in same price range Monday, April 09, 2007
ganand from milwaukee, WI
This drive is fast.. performance is better than i expected.. but now there are many more options in similar price range and so i don't see any edge this drive may have over others.. works like a charm with mac though, unlike wd.. this drive keeps spinning even after ejecting in mac and after save remove hardware in windows.. have to remove usb cable every time even though drive keeps spinning.. wondering if that is the case with everybody.. no one else mentioned it though.. anybody else having the same problem.. would contacting the manufacturer help ??

5 of 5 Great product at a great price. Friday, March 16, 2007
A Customer from Los Angeles, CA
I really like the Alturak 120 gb portable external hard drive. It functions great right out of the box. It also looks quite stylish. I do have problem with the backup software it comes with, because it's too simplified and not fit to my advanced backup use. But besides that, everything is super! a great alternative to the Western Passport portable hard drive, when all your friends have that.

5 of 5 Very Good for the price Monday, March 12, 2007
Balaji Pooruli from Dodgeville, WI
Bought this Aluratek 120GB portable HDD and it is working great. Though it is somewhat slow, for the price of 80$ it is a recommended buy. As always with buy.com, order is received in excellent condition.

5 of 5 a great deal . . . if you can find one Monday, March 05, 2007
remathome from west haven conn
I had to wait a while for one to be located, but it was worth it. It's a nice hard drive, compact, sturdy, and with a nice little sleeve to carry it in. I'm not crazy about the software, but you don't really need it. So I don't use the one-button backup, just drag files onto the desktop icon. Easy peasy.

5 of 5 great product Saturday, March 03, 2007
SJ from Cleveland, OH
Esp for the price I bought - around eighty. HD is actually WD1200VE. Overall, I'm satisfied. One big drawback of this product is BackUp utility software coming with the product is not good at all - especially if you want to do sync. Therefore, the BackUp button connected to the backup utility executable file is not really useful for me. It would be perfect if I was able to configure the button. Also, the enclosure is little bit big comparing with old 2.5" external enclosure.

5 of 5 Awesome auxillary hard drive! Friday, March 02, 2007
Jeff from Belleville, IL
I purchased mine to use as an auxillary hard drive to hold my iTunes and picture files. My laptop has a 30 gig drive so I was perpetually out of space. I plugged in the Aluratek, moved my iTunes files to it and started listening to my music. The device is awesome for this purpose since it is small, sleek and reasonably fast. If you are considering it for iTunes storage as well be aware that I did have one of my techie friends adjust some of the registry entries so that iTunes would know to look to the Aluratek instead of my hard drive. If you don't do that iTunes will not see your My Music folder and will be unable to start up.

5 of 5 great value Friday, March 02, 2007
A Customer from West Haven CT
never used one of these before, but it does just what it's supposed to do. Not sure of the usefulness of the software, but the beauty is that you don't need it. Just plug it in and use it as you would a thumb drive. Very fast.

5 of 5 Compact and easy to use Thursday, March 01, 2007
A Customer from St. Louis, Mo.
It couldn't be simpler to use and I love the fact that it is so compact. I use it mostly to carrie files back and forth between office and home. So far it seems to be just what I was looking for.

5 of 5 Good Portable Hard Drive Thursday, February 15, 2007
John White from Santa Rosa, CA
This drive was extremely easy to set up: unpack it, attach the included USB cable and start copying files. It really was that easy. It is nice looking, seems well constructed, is fairly light, and includes a nice lightly padded case which also has an elastic band (about 4" wide) to hold the USB cable. Very thoughtful for the traveler! It seems reasonably fast, but since I intend to use it as backup and maybe for some mp3 files, speed is not a real issue for me. It also comes with some backup software for Windows which I haven't tried yet as I mainly intend to use it on a Mac. So far I am very happy with this drive, especially at this price.

5 of 5 Great Product! Tuesday, February 06, 2007
Kevin from Camas, WA
I bought this HD over the WD Pass Port for 2 reasons. 1. Found horrible reviews on all web sites on the WD drive. 2. I wanted the one touch backup feature which this drive supplied and I wanted the free nylon Case. All in all I have had it for only 2 days but I am in love with it!! I am now able to back up files on my laptop, my wifes laptop, my work computer and my 30GB IPOD. I highly recommend this product. A+!!

5 of 5 Great product and a great deal! Tuesday, December 05, 2006
Cautious shopper from Chino Hills, CA
This is the first time I heard of Aluratek. I had a great first impression immediately after receiving my product. The fit and finish of the product is great. Very nicely done packaging as well (egg carton type tray to hold all contents, very environmentally friendly). The drive worked well too. Plug in the drive to my Lenovo laptop, powered right up. Transfer was very smooth and fast. The backup software was very easy to install and very easy to use. Now, I would recommend Aluratek products to anyone. Thanks Buy.com for the great deal.

5 of 5 WOW! Great Product Saturday, December 02, 2006
Brian K from Palatine IL
Wow what a great product. The reason I purchased over WD passport was the one touch back up feature. Plugged it in right out of the box with no power adapters of software to install (there is included software for the one touch back up button feature which I'll be playing with later). I used it to tranfer data from my older USB 1.1 computer to my newer USB 2.0 and had no problems on either computer. Obviously transfering was so much faster when connected to my new USB 2.0 computer. Light weight aluminum casing really keeps the drive cool.
