These speakers have a small base which means they can easily fall over. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Vista users beware Monday, May 28, 2007 James Rosendahl from San Diego, CA
I purchased these speakers for my new laptop, a Windows Vista machine. The Altec Lansing XT1w is not supported by Vista. You can get around this by using the USB connection for power and then use the 3.5" auxilliary line from the headphone jack. This works but defeats the purpose of the USB feature. With my older notebook, a XP system, these speakers work great and I highly recommend them. Was this review helpful?

The speakers are quite compact, though they have a nice heft to them for their small size. The kit comes with everything you need, including one retractable USB cable and one cloth covered USB cable.
They provide a decent amount of bass, although I wish I had a little more range in treble and mid-range (the XP driver provides bass and treble control).
All in all I'm very satisfied. Was this review helpful?

These speakers feature great sound quality, easy connection and great protability. Just plug them into your Windows XP system and they are ready to go. The included case is compact and easily holds all of the required connectors without wasting space. A must for any traveler that demands excellent sound without distortion. Far better than any laptop's built-in speakers. Was this review helpful?

These speakers provide a much better sound than the speakers built into my HP dv8000 notebook and probably any other built in laptop speakers. The sound quality is good but not what I expected from Altec Lansing. The fidelity is marginal and, although volume is much better than the built-in system, maximum amplification is still required to fill even a small room. On the plus side, no distortion is apparent even at maximum amplification from the notebook. The USB driven internal amplifier makes the speakers very easy to transport. The cables are top notch and a very nice case is provided. In short, these speakers are great for travel but if you want truly great sound hold out for an AC powered speaker system. My goal was to have a pair of respectable speakers on hand for home or to take with me to share with friends and clients. I am very pleased with these Altec Lansing XT1's. As usual, Buy.com made it to my door at an unbeatable price and very fast service. For someone looking for a classy presentation with a nice travel case and without the hassles of batteries, I'd recommend to look no further.
