I just purchased my Altec system and was amazed what quality and ease for such an inexpensive unit. I am getting another one for the office! And...it's so portable.

Loved it so much I purchased one for a friend! Sound is very good and gets better when the speakers are broken in. Great for listening on the patio or traveling. Although the speakers seem to work better when the batteries are full charge or when the a/c adapter is used. Still, buy this before the price goes up or they are gone! Oh Yes, the ipod battery does get charged also when the system is used with the a/c adapter.

After finding it on Buy.com, I went ahead and bought one. What do I think of it? It's pretty good. The size is compact and the sound is a little better than what you would expect from such tiny speakers. My 30gb video ipod works well it. I wasn't sure at first if it will recognize the 5th gen ipods, but I'm relieve to find out that it does. It comes w/ the AC adapter and it does charge my video ipod when it's docked. The video ipod doesn't come w/ wall charges. Instead of shelling out $30-$40 for one, consider spending a little bit more and get one of these.

Yeah, these aren't 3K speakers, as in my home audio system. Given their size and function, however, they work extremely well. In my classroom I can set up my iPod w/ video to the "Ask an Astronomer" video podcast and have a mini science center. They're perfectly acceptable to take to a hotel room on vacation and the form factor of the folding unit is excellent. Even the included headphones aren't bad. Well worth the $60 (newer version w/out much improvement ~$110 at CostCo).

These speakers ARE compatible with the nano. However, the nano adapter is NOT in the box. Just go to alteclansing.com and order the nano adapter for free. Overall, this system cannot be beat, thanks to buy.com's unbeatable price and AL's outstanding engineering.

In response to the user who was wondering if this works for the iPod Nano, all Altec Lansing products have an iPod to Nano "adapter". These adapters are free (you have to pay $3.00 for shipping). You can order them directly from Altec Lansing (http://www.alteclansing.com/nanoadapters.asp).

I haven't received this product yet - it's on its way - but for those asking about Nanos - you can get a Nano adapter for this speaker system right now until the end of February absolutely free without shipping or handling and without any additional purchase at the Altec Lansing website. It would appear, therefore, that you need one to use a Nano. I don't even have an IPod, so I will be using the auxiliary jack for a CD player or mp3 player. We'll see how it works out, but for the price, it should be well worth it, and ready to go if and when I buy an IPod. I am rating this 5 stars because the reviews on the Altec Lansing website from various trade magazines and the Wall Street Journal are very favorable.

in response to an earlier question, I can confirm this will charge your ipod while its in the cradle. I listen to my ipod every day in this unit and can't remember the last time I used the apple dock to charge it

Works great with my nano. Sounds much better than I expected given it's size. For the price a fantastic deal. Not the Bose sounddock, but for 1/5 the cost, sounds awesome

I have purchased 2 of these units. It is an exceptional value for the money. The sound, although not perfect, is surprisingly good. The unit comes well packaged and has everthing needed.

Finally everyone can appreciate the music on an iPod – no more anti-social earphones! The sound is great – at low and high volume, but they don’t rattle the windows, so I wouldn’t plan to use them for a loud dance party. Speakers are compact and easy to set up and use. Works on batteries or household current, in fact has several international AC adapters. Added bonus that it serves as a docking station too. Comes with docking adapters so all iPods, minis and nanos can be used with the system. We liked it so much, my youngest daughter is using her Christmas money to buy one for her nano.

I needed a small iPod desktop speaker set and charger for the office and this set fits the bill. Don't plan on being impressed by the sound quality - it is more akin to the transistor radios of the 1960's than to a quality sound system. On the other hand, at the bargain basement blowout price it is currently being marketed at, it does represent great value. Plan on using it in those locations where your listening needs are not stressing.

Capable of clear highs, distortion free with deep bass, very easy on the ears. Great for monitoring. Can easily distinguish different sampling encoding rates.

One thing I wish iPods could do is play out loud so other people can listen. I got sick of people wanting to listen to my i Pod so I needed this. It's like I have a stereo with 10,000 songs. Another thing is that it has a great design. I folds flat for storage or travel and it looks really cool. A great thing to use with your iPod, if you don't have one yet I suggest you buy it now.

This is a very versatile and useful set of speakers for your iPod. I know, I know, everybody is cashing in on accessories for the damn things but this is one of the more useful items for an iPod. I use this in my bedroom as my alarm clock and when I go camping I pop in the rechargeables and use it when I can. I would say for the $60 sale price it's a definite deal. They don't sound the best but, hey, we're talking about portables so you can hear something.

To answer a previous question, the description says it comes with an AC adapter, so my guess would it does! I just bought a similar produc, Logitech mm22 Portable Speakers for iPod.. It had good reviews, noted excellent sound and bass.. and its currently down from 80 dollars to 30 on this site, so you may want to look into that particular item as well!

This is a very well designed product. You get all that you can expect from a portable speaker system. It comes with all the necessary equipment like power adapter, nice carrying case, adapter kit for different ipods and also the free ear phones. The ear phones that you get are alright. They have nice support so that they wont slip from your ear when running or working out. You have to buy a sync cable if you want to use it with mac or pc. But other than that the system is very good. The speakes take a little time to break in but once they do the sound is very impressive. A bang for the buck. Retails at 150 in many websites.
